Mereo had gone. Alivia's ears flattened at the news, though she did her best to curb any other outward signs of distress. She'd known it was likely; Mereo was a nomadic pack after all. This just meant that she now had zero leads on finding her father. 

Well, maybe there was half a lead. Bushtit seemed to think Towhee might know more. 

"Bet," she agreed, tossing a smile his way. Despite his suggestion, he didn't look prepared to move at all. "But I think it's more like brunch at this point." Whoops. Hopefully Towhee wouldn't mind. Bushtit definitely didn't seem too anxious about it.  

Whenever he was ready, she would heave herself to her paws and shake off the sand, then follow his lead.
