A light drizzle fell from above, the sun was not hidden behind any clouds and it made her smile gently to herself. This was the kind of day that her mother would have called a ‘monkey’s wedding’. The memories of that saying were fond and filled with a sad kind of joy, the memories of her past were happy but she missed the days when she was still a pup. She had never needed to worry about anything and she had had a sense of belonging. It had been her own heart and head that had prompted her to leave her family, to travel the world. She enjoyed her own company, but unfortunately it brought her no home nor sense of belonging. In some senses she desired that again, but in others she liked having her independence. Finding a home would remove some of that indepence that she had become so proud of.
She looked behind her, at the rapidly disappearing land-bridge. The tide was coming in fast and she clenched her jaw, hoping that it would return at home point. She was exploring and enjoying it, but she did not want to become trapped in this place. The constant sea scent could possibly become a bother. She turned her gaze forward again, narrowing her eyes at what lay ahead of her. She stiffened after he next step as another scent reached her nostrils and her blood ran cold. This was not the scent of the ocean, rather it was the scent of others. The kind of scent that normally meant a land was claimed. She froze, glancing behind her at the now gone bridge. There was nowhere else to go.
She supposed she had to be polite and so she lifted her muzzle and called for the owners of the land, hoping they would show pity on her trapped soul.
