a moment after he faltered beneath her, she withdrew, sensing the end of the fight even before he spoke. there is fierce pride, a throbbing, deep-seated pain across her face, and a surprising and total lack of regret. her stare remains on him, growing harder when he yells, but allowing the words to go unchecked. it had not been personal; rather, not challenging him at all had been. his anger is understandable. (though surprisingly she finds herself hoping it will diminish, in time)

she watched him go a moment, not feeling the need to offer him anything further, before returning her gaze to Vengeance. "he was in my way," is what she offers in lieu of an explanation, feeling obligated to say something to fill the silence between Valour's insult and whatever Vengeance may have to say.
