All Welcome
tagging @Moorhen but AW. keeping it vague since idk if Moorhen is still right beside her or not

The dreamless sleep was a blessing. Usually, her slumber was filled with frightful visions, the ghosts of wolves dead and alive coming to haunt her. Screams, chanting. Blood. But she'd slipped away on the beach into the welcoming arms of blissful darkness, and it was not until her eyes open did she experience any sense of color, of life.

Maegi blinked slowly, looking at the sand under her paws. The gentle murmur of the waves and the distant cries of seabirds might have been a peaceful soundtrack to the wolves who lived here, but for the girl, so used to the eerie silence of Blackfeather Woods, it was a cacophony of sound, and her ears flattened. She was still dreadfully tired, but not so much as she had been upon arrival, and her aching muscles were able to move.

It was after she'd rolled onto her belly that she noticed the fish laying close by, and her stomach rumbled like thunder. With her exhaustion handled, hunger took over, and without even a questing sniff, she dove into the meat, crunching the tiny bones between her teeth. She'd had fish from the caches before--the silvery creatures raced through Otter Creek--but this tasted different--stronger, more pungent. It wasn't much to her liking, but she would have eaten anything right now: this was pure ambrosia.

Once she'd taken her fill, Maegi sat up, licking her lips, head spinning a little with the movement. She looked out to the sea, watching the rolling waves. The woman and her child were both gone, as was the pretty black wolf she'd glimpsed just before falling asleep. She was alone, and panic soon gripped her.

Where was she? She'd not gotten a concrete answer. And though any adult wolf could tell her that the journey from the isle to her home was only several days, she might have been on the moon, with how far away it all seemed.

High above, the spring sun beat down, and she felt bereft and exposed.

Moorhen was tired. It'd been a long day, made longer by the stress of their three new additions. She trusted Venninne and her child well enough, but something about the pale girl had rubbed her the wrong way. Still, she'd remained by the guppy's side, just as she'd said she would.

It seemed like eons later that she finally stirred, not seeming to notice her sentinel, but going for the meal that had been provided. Moorhen watched her, distrustful but unconcerned as she polished off the fish.

"Welcome," said Moorhen, because that was what the Shadow would have wanted her to say. "Home at Undersea. Island." She unfolded from her sphinx-like repose, trying not to startle the girl into another fit of unconsciousness. "I em Moor. Protector. Dark shadow - Coelacanth. Mom wolf. Um. Leader."

The voice nearby startled her, as the unfamiliar sights and smells of the island had lulled her into a sort of ignorance of her surroundings; she'd not even noticed the brown-furred woman nearby. Maegi whipped her head around, staring stupidly for a moment as she tried to piece together what she'd just said. Her accent was thick, like Shivali's, the words fractured and sentences brief.

"Moor," she repeated slowly, dipping her muzzle at the woman as if to label her. Protector. But then, what was this dark shadow--unless she meant the woman with the sky-blue eyes? Coelacanth. She mouthed the unfamiliar name silently to herself, getting a feel for it.

Forgetting if she'd introduced herself or not before--she'd done so, but under duress, and it was largely a blur in her mind--she added, "I'm Maegi. From Bearclaw Valley." It wasn't a lie, not really. She had, after all, spent several days within the walls of that place. With all she'd been through, she was fairly sure the scent of Blackfeather Woods, however strong, had left her pelt; even if it hadn't, what were the chances a wolf in these far-flung lands would know it?

"So this place. . .it's called Undersea?" Maegi asked, looking around. "What's that mean? What's. . .uh, what's an island?"
