Joining
A wind tangled in her dark coat, leading the druid to halt in her path as she her onyx head tipped back with pleasure. She breathed deeply, inhaling the savory scent of the crisp, wild breeze . Strange, how even the air smelled different here.

Her feet began walking without her command, the grass parting as Issy prowled through its growth - only the dark tips of her ears visible. Grasshoppers sprung into the air with her every step, a constant companion as the girl wandered.

Amidst the morning calls of birdsong, she came upon a stream. Its surface was gently roiling, dark with hidden depths that moved at unseen speed that could easily drown the druid if she ventured too close. Cautiously, the girl followed as close as she dared, halting when the scent of a fawn caught her attention. It was young, young enough to be unaware of the predator trailing it through the grass.

She came upon the young deer as it grazed, its hide still spotted and its soft brown eyes shining with youth. The girl felt bad as she dispatched the creature's young life, offering silent thanks as she took its thin neck in her mouth and began to drag it away.

Issy might have taken her meal into seclusion to dine on but the wind shifted as she followed the river, bringing with it another intriguing scent. This one did not promise food but a group of other wolves, a pack. She was wary of approaching, uncertain if she was ready to be in another group just yet.

She stood amongst the grass, deer clenched in her jaws, halted with indecision. Her ears tipped back and a wrinkle formed between her pale eyes as she mulled it over silently.

Joining meant less strain to eat, safety, possibly even friends who could abate her loneliness. It meant working to patrol and keep others safe, hunting for a pack, training to fight. That didn't sound so awful, she didn't mind work, it was the unknown wolves that concerned her.

You came south for a new start. One is right in front of you, take it.

With a deep inhale to steady her nerves, the girl began padding in the direction of the scent. She stopped outside the borders, the strong scent indicating that the forest surrounding the stream belonged to whomever ruled here.

The druid rested the fawn at her paws, intending to offer it as a gift, preening her silky coat into an adequate appearance before sitting hesitantly - unsure if she was supposed to sit. She howled, calling for whoever she was supposed to, to pretty please come speak to her.

The song echoed across the creek lands, beckoning the inhabitants. His muzzle swung up gently, feeling the crisp breeze ruffle the fur of his cheeks before puppy teeth found purchase, his previous task of mid-battle with his sons forgotten in the moment and reminded with their insistent graze. He crooned to them gently, nipping playfully at the ears that came within grasp as each danced around him, and before nudging them towards the den and their mother, Constantine uttered a deeper ‘boof’ to indicate to his mate that he was making his way to their visitor.

It took him perhaps longer than he would have liked, given their lacking numbers and his own eagerness to bolster them. His own song released from his jaws to notify she would be greeted soon, the stocky male loping quickly to the source of the she-wolf.

The day was cooler – reminding him of the oncoming winter months. The grass was crisper. This would be his first cold season in the valley –he had only ever been on the other side of the mountains. His expectations were uncertain, and that left a lingering hesitance from the regal.

He came upon her – patiently seated respectfully at their borders with a rather impressive catch blanketing the ground before her paws. The shadow runner's form was held with recognition to his rank, though he tilted his muzzle in quiet assessment, his fiery eyes roving the youthful woman before him. “Fàilte,” he greeted in the tongue of his father, feeling a pang for the man still mourned. “Welcome. How can I help you?”

She had not been waiting long when another call, deeper and indicative of an authority figure, echoed through the morning air. Issy startled, not expecting the sound, before silently chiding herself on being so nervous. The man appeared moments later from the treeline, bringing Issy hesitantly to her feet - suddenly feeling that it might be rude to sit.

He was dark, much like Issy, though taller and perhaps a shade older. His very appearance seemed to be scream tall, dark, and handsome, but this was irrelevant to the druid; what most caught her attention was the way he held himself, a symbol that he was in charge here. She dipped her head respectfully as he approached, smelling a handful of other wolves and even puppies on him as he neared.

"Tapadh leat," she murmured softly in surprise, not expecting him to speak the old tongue. Her pale gaze remained fixed elsewhere, afraid she would offend him by looking him in the eyes.

"I would like to join your pack, if there's room," it went unsaid that she also meant if there was some reason she was found unacceptable, "I'm a decent hunter and fighter; I brought this," she nudged the carcass towards him, careful to maintain distance and remain on her side of the border.

"But there's always room to improve," she added softly, hopefully. Her plush tail twitched, as if it wanted to wag, and then the druid slipped into a silence filled with anticipation.

aria, often along the borders now and drawn by the scent of the fawn, appeared soon after constantine did, missing the front end of the conversation but able to gather it by sheer common sense. this wolf was looking to join, and she brought a gift.

it was not pleasantly that aria looked over her, but only for vain reasons. this woman-- this girl-- she was so youthful. aria couldn't remember her youthful years, not truly. she was thrown into her middle-ages without grace, a life she felt so uncomfortable in. she should've been so wise-- but instead she was so stuck in such childish ways... because it was all she knew. she wondered if this yearling was taking advantage of her youth.

she merely stood behind constantine, hiding her inner feelings behind a blank, thoughtful expression.

@Iseabail so sorry for the wait!
The shadowrunner studied her quietly, contemplative as she responded in turn the tongue of his father. He could not keep the flicker of surprise within his burnt gaze, and was about to comment again, seeing what more of the older language he could draw from her when the familiar scent of Aria sidled up toward them. He heard her gentle strides, halting behind him, and his ear gave a twitch of recognition to her presence.

The girl before him was perhaps the most promising new face they had seen since their arrival to the valley north-east of the mountains. Her beauty was not missed – but more importantly, the air in which she held herself was what intrigued him. She did not seem old, but she seemed more mature than the yearlings he had been in company with over time.

“You speak the old tongue,” he commented, his voice revealing his surprise. His muzzle tilted lightly, his eyes sweeping over the carcass she had brought with her. “Your gift is appreciated. We have many young mouths to feed,” he offered as insight, the corner of his inked lips quirking up in a small smile. Next breeding season would be different – of that, he was sure.

“My name is Constantine, and this is Aria,” his muzzle swept back now, his eyes locking to the pale gaze of the ivory January, holding it for only a moment before swinging back to their company. “This is Swiftcurrent Creek. If you are loyal, work hard and are seeking a pack in which to call family, then there is room for you.” He paused, releasing a low chuff as he considered his next words. “We have had many wolves come and go rather flippantly. We don’t take kindly to wolves who disappear without word.”

It was not a question but she nodded nonetheless, lips parting as if she longed to say something else to him in her mother tongue but her words were halted by the appearance of a slightly older female, as pale as Issy was dark.

She was lovely, in the druid's opinion, though the calculating gaze that raked over her was anything but. Issy beamed at the woman regardless, offering a cheerful, "Hello," before turning her attention back to the male.

Her lips turned up at his quip, partially at the image of a horde of pups tearing into the fawn, and her head dipped slightly at the gratitude.

"I'm Issy," the girl returned simply, her tail waving gently. "And I'm afraid I don't vanish too easy," her light words were serious beneath the surface. Swiftcurrent Creek seemed like the perfect place for her and she could feel the great spirit here, flowing in the streams.

constantine introduced her. she held his gaze as long as he looked at her, and then it settled on her paws. but only briefly, and soon enough to pale dove was looking back up towards the joiner, her moonlight gaze settled and calm. she had been here such a short time, and even in that time she'd seen plenty of wolves leave. she hoped that this wolf meant it, for aria could stand to gain a few more friends.

her tail waving gently at her hocks, nose tipping up as she considered the joiners offer, looking to constantine to see what he might say.

@Iseabail feel free to post as a pack membr anywhere. <3
Issy. He took the simplistic version of her name at face, and with her agreement, he gave a nod. The dark wolf prowled closer to the she-wolf, his shoulder rubbing briefly against hers in open camaraderie and lacing his scent upon her – claiming her as a pack mate.  One ear flicked in the direction of Aria, though his gaze fell to the deer at Issy’s paws.

Leaning down, the regal rumbled throatily, his tail giving a neutral sway in the air. “Take some – replenish your strength. The rest we will deliver to Durnehviir and Chusi. They are the mother’s of the Creek’s current pups.”

@Constantine thank you!

It seemed she was to be accepted into their fold and it was with quiet joy she received Constantine's claim - her tail wagging gently as he rubbed the scent of the Creek pack on her dark pelt.

She was surprised to be offered some of the fawn but thought it rather kind, offering a genuine, "Thank you." Her pallid gaze shone with hunger as she tore a meaty chunk daintily from the corpse - not enough to fill her ravenous belly after wandering but she was loathe to take food from the mouths of babes and mothers.

With venison clenched in her maw, darkening her inky muzzle further with its ruby liquid, she glanced to the other two, prepared to follow them further into the territory - her new home.

aria gave a kind nod and warm smile to their now new packmate, her tail waving a few times to express her congratulations. and then she waited for further instruction, either to be asked to leave or to help, ready and eager to do whatever was asked of her... though she of course would have preferred not to visit the den of the dragoness herself.

When their newest member had her fill of her generous gift, the swarthy male circled the carcass, his eyes flickering to Aria. "Take a piece to @Chusi?" With that, he bent down, tearing a portion in which would feed his children--and possibly Durnehviir, though their appetites were ravenous.

With that, he led Iseabail to the den of the pack's matriarch to which they would deliver their meal and welcome her further in to the pack, allowing Aria to slip away gracefully from the glowering embers of his mates gaze.
