@Minori

Soon after her fall-out with Indra, Nunataq had moved out of the den she had shared with her Bearclaw family and searched the Lost Creek Hollow for a suitable new home. She felt all grown up and important, as she did this. No adult had a say in, what she was supposed to do and how, she was free and enjoyed it. Few cold nights that were spent outside later she found an abandoned badger's den right on the fringes of hollow's eastern borders. It was a bit small for her in the beginning, but the ground had not frozen yet there, making it easy for her to dig the sand and make the necessary adjustments. And on the same evening she moved in proudly in her small, but cozy apartment and fell asleep.

The first thing she did the next morning was going around the perimeter, marking the place, where she felt it necessary for others to know that they were entering a small private corner in a big house. Kind of angry "Stay Out!" signs kids put on their bedroom doors. But with this the furnishing was not yet done. She returned to Bearclaw residence to fetch her favourite toys and for a moment she wondered, whether she should go and take Marten's toad as well, but decided that it was probably not worth the trouble. If Indra had flipped out over a dead body, what would she have to say about a living one? Therefore, when back at her new home, she stashed a piece of an old antler that had suffered many hefty chewing session, and a piece of half-rotten hide that had been in Lucas's possession, when they had still lived elsewhere.

With things one, two and three checked off her list, the girl decided that this would be a good time to explore the lands that were right behind the invisible fence that separated her packlands from the wilds. This was an entirely new area, meadow with patches of green interspersed between yellows and browns, a river snaking it's way through it and - what would you know - a mountain range to the North. Nunataq did not think twice about heading over there, while making frequent stops along the way, where she thought that there was a spot worth inspecting more or where there was a promise for food.

At first she had no direction for her travels, no destination. Then she remembered Kavik having said something to all of them about where their allies had moved to and she figured that no harm would come from her making a quick visit. It had taken her three days to get there only because she made frequent stops and dilly dallied constantly.

Finally she arrived at the borders of a pack in the area that Kavik had described. She began to wander a few feet from the edges of the borders, keeping a respectful distance but also sniffing at the scents of their allies. She headed north in her inspection, finding that the pack held the scents of many, many wolves. They had a strong ally, that much was obvious. She paused as she heard pawsteps coming and looked up to see a young female, barely a year if even approaching. She gave a small chuff and stood still, waiting to see how she would be reacted to.

When people are asked about their favourite smell, one can hear either quite common answers, such as flowers, or a particular brand of soap (hand cremes, shampoos, hair spray and whatever else can be found on the toiletry shelf), or especially delicious food, or... ones, which are hard to define in one word. For example, smell of baby's skin, freshly cut grass, potatoes in the basement storage area, air after a thunderstorm, wet cement, recently painted walls and so on. With this in mind, Nunataq was no different from people with her preferences being both regular and weird. And among them... stood her own brand of "poison" - fish. The smell of sweaty leather boots coming close second, were she aware of such things in the first place.

But fish... oh, god, was it an amazing thing - if she happened to find such, she became like a cat on valerian, drunk and euphoric, would she roll in the fruit that she did not get to taste often, and with sufficient fish "particles" rubbed in her coat and skin to keep away all her friends and packmates for a week or so, she would devour the prize. Here, during her thorough inspection, she had caught traces of her favourite drug and was looking for it with almost frantic intensity, when she was interrupted by someone calling to her. She looked up with a furrowed brow of a person, who does not understand, what can be SO important to disturb her. Her eyes narrowed as she scrutinized the other for a minute and then with an air of a wolf, who is very busy now, resumed her search. The fish was (or had been) near and she was not going to give up, until she found it.

It was amusing to watch the girl dig around, searching with such intensity for an object unknown to Minori. She sniffed the air, puzzled by what could be so interesting and pinpointed a possibility. Fish. Her chuff had been heard but was met with an confused and bothered silent stare which got the point across very well. "My bad, carry on" she said with a smirk. While the girl searched she moved to take a seat by the river, staring intently into their depths. If the girl wanted a fish, she could get her a fish.

She slowly stepped into the water and shivered, though she made no sound. As she stood still little slivers of silver grew curious and swam toward her. She waited and then lunged, grabbing a fish by the back of the head and then splashing for shore where she killed it and then repeated her chuff, more urgently in case she was ignored. If she got the girl's attention she would grab the fish and bow forward ever so slightly, a playful growl rising from her maw. "Come and get it" she said both out loud and in posture. She was feeling teasing, playful. She had left BDP to clear her head and maybe this would help.

Nunataq would have continued on ignoring the stranger, were it not for the peculiar thing it did next. Splashing water made the girl look up from, what she had been doing, and focus on the scene playing out before her. Was the woman daft? Who with the good mental faculties willingly stepped in the cold water? Whether these were the exact words that came to the mute girl's mind, will remain unknown, but scepticism and doubt was written all over her face.

She did not consider the lady being very sane, until she did something and came out of the water, carrying a freshly caught fish in her mouth. Nunataq's eyes grew wide with admiration and awe just like a kitten, who has caught sight of a cat-toy and wants it very, very badly. Unbeknownst to her a bit of sticky saliva trickled from both corners of her mouth, as she stared at the prized possession in the dark wolf's mouth.

However, this moment of not acting cool was whisked away, when the stranger offered to play-fight for it. Here Nunataq's innocently amazed expression changed to the one, who was smart enough to tell, when she was being played and invited for an unequal competition. She smirked. Yeah, right. And did not move an inch, though she still wanted to have that fish.

It was extremely satisfying to watch as the child's attention was gained and the small girl stared enraptured with obvious desire written all over her features. The girl was cute and for a slight second Minori was tempted to toss the girl the fish and move onward as that would surely lose her all of the attention she had so suddenly gained. Then a thin line of slimy drool cascaded from the pup's maw in almost slow motion and Minori's eyes followed it, a slow amused smirk forming on her lips. She wanted it that badly huh? A little mean bit of mischievous playfulness rose up within her as the girl seemed to come to herself and simply stared Minori down, not coming after it like the Matsuyo wanted but not turning away either. So dramatically Minori sighed and shrugged, sitting down and dropping the fish into the dirt before her paws. Then while still keeping eye contact she lowered her maw and gave the fish a few quick bites so the juices flowed out and the smell permeated the air enticingly. She gave a low groan, licking her lips to show how absolutely delicious it was and then offered the child a smile. She lifted her head again, cocking it to the side and placed a paw on the fish sliding it forward just a bit as if asking "Are you sure you don't want any of this?"

I am so sorry!

Nunataq would have scoffed at someone's description of her as "cute". When she looked in the mirror she saw Wonderwoman, Lara Croft, Katana or any other female superhero on the list. And all of them were many things, but cute was not among them. On the other hand a stealthy part of her would have realized the opportunities "cute kitty look" could offer her.

Whatever the message was that the dark wolf tried to convey, it did not go through the mute girl, for she interpreted the lady differently. Her eating in a demonstrative manner, her placing a paw on the fish, her attitude altogether spoke of, how the other gloated about, what she had and even more of what the cub did not. This was a game of power and Nuna was not going to give in, despite the obvious fact of, how badly she wanted that fish.

Therefore she yawned, as if bored by the whole performance and lied down on her belly. She would stick to staring the other down.

It was then that she wondered if maybe the child had a few screws loose. What kind of kid didn't didn't respond to an invite to play, a challenge OR a little bit of teasing? Her eye twitched a little bit as the girl laid down and yawned like she was bored and Minori decided that she was done trying to make any headway with interacting here. Standing up she grabbed the fish and slowly approached the girl not forgetting how much the girl had seemed to want the food a moment ago. When she was a few feet away from the child she dropped the fish and nosed it toward the kid, nodding once and giving a sway of her tail before turning to leave.

Figured wrapping this up would be a good idea!

Being patient paid off. The dark wolf seemed to lose interest in teasing Nunataq and surprised the mute girl by leaving the fish and walking off. The girl waited a tad bit longer, until she was sure that the stranger was far away enough, then sprang to her feet, grabbed the fish and dashed towards Lost Creek hollow, leaving a trail of drool and bits and pieces of fish entrails in her path.
