All Welcome
It was a sick sort of irony that now that she had nothing else to do, she could not sleep.  Her mindset cycled between fury and despair, and she'd already taken a lot of her rage out verbally on the wolves set to guard her.

Right now, despair.  The sun had set and night washed over the shore, but she sat hunched, staring out over the waves.  This was the longest she'd gone without Erzulie's presence in a long while, and it was the company of her lover that she missed most.  Damn Caiaphas and her wolves, damn Drageda, damn all of them.  Rosalyn would tear to pieces anything that took from her the one thing she had to lose.

First she would heal.  Then she would work.  Every pack had fractures, imperfections that when found could split to the core.  It had been a long while since she'd plied her trade, but she still remembered the tricks and hopefully would not be too rusty.  She would find the imperfections and weaknesses and use them to break from this place.

if this doesn't work, i can delete. sort of unorthodox anyway. for note: erzulie is not at DG or near the borders. she is in the sound, so this also works as a cameo <3

rusalka lived.
caiaphas' fierce, quick work, and the efforts of those who followed her, had ensured that ankyra belonged to her once more. their victory, however, was bittersweet: rosalyn was still not among them, and erzulie feared that the drageda wolves had taken her.
the harlot had been in near-constant contact with the pirate for months; the bleed of her disappearance weighed heavily at erzulie, robbing her of what little delight she could take in the fact that rusalka reigned.
nightfall found her padding to the edge of the wood, where she faced the distant cliffs. there, finally, the dam of her grief broke; erzulie lifted a tear-stained muzzle and cried forlornly toward the imposing stone walls.
do you live, rosalyn? i am here

He wanted to see her for himself.  Drageda had taken a captive — a natrona — and so soon after Wildfire's departure, he is full of a whole host of feelings he has no desire to sort through.  Still. He forges through the territory at a quick clip, stiff limbs carrying him surely towards the wolf who dare stand defiant in the face of Drageda.

She is red.

She's just a few pips away from being the same color as Kiwi.  A bump in saturation and she'd be the same as Wildfire.  Douse her in breaks of white and she'd be Sequoia.

He wonders if red is the color of traitors, and if that is why Blixen has been trying so hard to prove herself to nomi.

He stays hidden, or at least quiet, as a howl rings from the Sound and up into the cliffs, and his eye turns to the captive.

She was caught up in imagining all the ways she would rip these cliffs apart if she just had the power when a lone call came, barely audible.  At first she thought she imagined it, but there was no mistaking that voice.

Tears sprang into her eyes as she stood, springing towards the edge of beach nearest where it had come.  The cliffs and water kept her bounded, but that sound had been a lifeline and brought such a rush of love and unbelievable loneliness she couldn't bear it.

She called back, though she couldn't be sure the cliffs would carry hers as they had carried Erzulie's.  At least the water was an eager messenger. I'm here. The desperate note faded and she stood still, her muzzle still pointing to the sky as her shoulders shook with silent tears.

last for me <3

erzulie did not believe she would receive an answer. perhaps a retort from the wretched drageda.
her breath hitched, then, when the faint rejoinder, unmistakably belonging to rosalyn, floated back across the way to her.
the harlot wanted to cry out; wanted to rejoice and scream and rage, but she stood grounded, trembling. afraid to call again and perhaps bring down punishment upon her lover, erzulie stared up at the cliffs for only a handful of moments longer before she tore herself away and dashed to find caiaphas.

Lemme know if I'm not welcome and I'll duck out!

Like Tux, Ephraim was steeped in curiosity over the pack's captive. He didn't know any of the details, just that it was someone who was loitering on the beach below. He imagined in his mental scenario that it was one of Eurycrates' imaginary thugs they had captured. That man truly must be desperate to shake the shame of being turned away by Drageda, he thought as he worked his way down Hougeda's tunnel to the beach where Rosalyn was being held. Amassing an army of total strangers to... what, contest his rejection? What a joke.

A howl rang out from the bay and, frowning, Ephraim responded by speeding up. He didn't notice Tux on his way down; he caught the tail end of Rosalyn's howl and, fancying himself one of Drageda's trusted and feeling like tough shit for it, snarled loudly as he emerged on the sand. Do that again and we'll break your jaw, he promised.

Do that again and we'll break your jaw.

He is not sure if Ephraim saw him hiding there in the shadow, but he is sure that the natrona had not.  While he was confident that Ephraim cound handle this on his own, it would do better to have someone with the formidable height and weight of Tux on his side to back up his statement.  He emerges from the shadows with the look of a jungle cat; rolling shoulders, hungry stare.

The woman's grief made him uncomfortable.  He didn't know what to do with it, so instead he just ignored it and let a low rumble come from his chest, unaware that they were just two boys and the woman in front of them would likely kick both of their asses to the curb and back.

Of course, her calls called the calvary. She ignored them for a moment, listening, but no further sound came.  Likely she hadn't been heard.

Finally she opened her eyes and turned to just stare at them both, hardened.  Worried? She asked, her lip curling.  Good.

She thought of asking them to prove the threat, but it was one they could easily make good on, and disobeying wouldn't give her much right now.  So she simply continued to watch them, feeling the sorrow turn to an acrid hatred towards these two young wolves.

Hah, spat the coywolf in response, bristling, you're proof we have nothing to worry about. If she was the best that Eurycrates' army had to offer, then Drageda was sitting pretty. He hoped to hear the story from Antumbra some time—as of now, Ephraim didn't know just how easily Rosalyn had gone down to Heda, and he was mostly bluffing to seem more impressive than he really was. He probably couldn't break her jaw, not without more training, but just about every other member of the pack could, and there were plenty within calling distance.

You talk big but you're just a weak runaway coward who got caught, he went on, feeling all the tension and stress from being in a war zone just over a month prior welling up inside him, along with the possessiveness he felt now for the Sound. You're just a gnat, natrona, and gnats don't get to open their mouths without being told to. It wasn't wise to provoke their captive. Heda would probably be angry with him for trying to pick a fight, and even more so if he actually touched her. But his temper was flaring and Ephraim didn't have the restraint now to hold it back, not when faced with an actual enemy of Drageda lying helpless before him. His ears twisted back when Tux rumbled and he turned his head to smile wanly at his friend—now the threats had weight.

Worried?

He can't contain the way his stoic expression shatters as his lip trembles.  A moment later, he can't contain his laughter — flat, humorless laughter.  Ha.  Ha ha.  His face melts back into its flat expression.  Worried?  Why would he be worried in the slightest?  As far as Tux knew, Drageda was and had always been invincible.  She wouldn't dare to hurt them, not even if they raised tooth and claw against her.  They were Drakru, and they had all of Drageda at their back.  Who did she have?  The three or four wolves that had collected in the Sound?

But he had little to say.  Ephraim is better at issuing the threats than he was; Tux was just here to carry them out, if the situation should arise.

She looked at them, and her hatred combined with the emotions the call had inspired made her unwilling to use caution.  She should be making friends, trying to gain advantage, but instead she was incapable.

So brave, She purled, condescending.  Yet my calls bother you.  A pack of warriors, and you can't even let a worthless prisoner like me howl to the sea.

She'd never been great at holding her temper in check, and her propensity to incite violence was one of the reasons she had so often found herself in trouble.  But she didn't much care at the moment.  She'd had it about to here with these wolves of the cliffs and their thrice damned pride.

I'll roll 1d6, evens hit odds miss if Rosalyn presses her luck!

A worthless prisoner has no voice, and your racket is annoying, snarled Ephraim, bolstered by Tux's steadfast presence and the guffaw that burst from his companion's lips. His ears cocked upward of their own accord and a little smirk—quite similar to his mother's, unbeknownst to him and pretty well anyone that hadn't made her acquaintance—unfurled across his lips. We're not stupid, we know what you're up to. But worried? Please. They can come and die in vain for you all they want. Lashing his tail twice, he stepped dangerously close to the prisoner with every hair on end in a threat display. If she didn't shut up she was going to learn how worthless Drageda really thought natrona were. As long as she was alive, they wouldn't care if Ephraim and Tux beat her to a bloody pulp.

And he fully believed they were capable of it. Like his golden-mantled friend, Ephraim thought Drageda, and by extension himself, were unbeatable. She wouldn't dare touch a hair on their hides or she'd find herself in worse jaws than the inexperienced ones of two young warriors hungry to prove themselves.

But, he pressed in a quiet voice with eyes blazing, You have no friends out there judging by their silence. Who wanted some traitor scum for a friend anyway? A natrona. It was only a matter of time before the one they were betraying was you, and Rosalyn had already proven (if the adults were to be believed) that her loyalty was solely to herself, so surely her absence was more of a relief than anything to her silent fellows.

wrapping this up!

She wanted to hurt them... tear into them and begin something that she'd finish.  But much as Rosalyn wasn't a particularly conniving wolf, she had strong instincts towards surviving.  If she began a fight here, she could likely do some damage, but cost wouldn't outweigh the benefit.  She would gain nothing from it.

So she gritted her teeth and allowed them the last word, cursing silently and sending a prayer out to the waves.  One day they'd all get their payment for this.  She'd see to that.
