All Welcome
For a change of pace, he had separated from the search party. Surely @Hydra would keep herself entertained for a day and no doubt @Lyra would benefit from a stint not involving him—either way it didn't matter when he had gone ahead to plot his own course. There was some relief in leaving the foothills and ridges of the lower mountain range, to stretch his limbs in full along the slope of broad plain to rolling valley below.

He had long followed the creek, hoping Revui to have sense enough to follow one source of water over another to guide him. It had been snowing intermittently now over the course of a day or two; not quite enough to hinder travel so much as it did making the sight portion of things irritating. Dirge could handle the drops in visibility when they came, just as he handled the rise and fall of bobbling winter temperatures. But at least here daybreak afforded him nothing more than a misty view, and the sun would burn away the fog by midday.

Just as well—he was no fool to the rising tell of a pack. Well entrenched by any other name, he skimmed along their borders only to test the air before giving it a wider berth. It was the fringes he stayed at, this wandering, wavering line pockmarked by every warning sign and of age. Enough to raise suspicion should he warrant it, but hopefully not enough to draw blood; Dirge would not be drawing attention unnecessarily to himself unless he had reason to be. There was no anticipation he would find the wayward son of Charon here, but there was also no reason not to investigate. Stranger things were bound to happen, especially in the winter.

But he found nothing there, nor was accosted, and soon returned to the sisters in his company.
