All Welcome

She lingered on the mainland longer than she needed to, dreading this. Considered going straight to Blackfeather Woods like a coward, tail between her legs and eyes fixed firmly ahead. Or even somewhere else, beyond that. A place where the ghosts of her past wouldn't haunt her every waking moment, and her dreams, too. If she wasn't so devoted to her goddamned warped sense of morals, she would leave without a care.

Maegi knew Mou was going to see her in a bad light after what had happened. Sending him away without much explanation, and not allowing him to come with her—it was among her worst moments, and she had poisoned someone, for fuck's sake! She wasn't prepared for the backlash yet. She never would be, but it would be disingenuous for her to run away. Cowardly.

And whatever Maegi was, she was no coward. She couldn't afford to be, anymore.

The land bridge was submerged by ankle-deep water, the tide slowly rising. Maegi sloshed along, the salt stinging against the cuts and scrapes of travel, the icy winter-sea wind rattling against her thin frame. By the time she reached the island itself, her teeth chattered and her legs felt like they could give out at any moment.

Again, though. Not a coward. Not a coward. And it was this warm, brave little sentiment that she clutched to her heart as she lifted her head and sang a song of summons (very much unlike a kEk, mind you, despite what the computer told me earlier). . .for Seelie, for Venninne, for anyone that would answer.

But most importantly—and most fearfully—for Mou.
