All Welcome

Fern had thought that living with a pack again would be difficult, or at least be an adjustment, but it had been a few days since she'd been welcomed among the wolves of Diaspora and thus far, things had been going smoothly. It helped that they were always on the move. There were always places to be, things to do, people to meet — that said, she'd spent most of her first few hours getting acquainted with the terrain and then the next few days scouring their claim for useful herbs.

She kept to herself for the most part, finding it more difficult to shed the lone wolf habits that she'd grown accustomed to. As she stalked along the lakeside Fern came upon the strong scent of the black wolf from the borders — Mahler, she reminded herself — but there was another scent, and it wasn't familiar. As she moseyed, she found that the lake's edge was frozen over with a thin sheet of ice. It occurred to her that the lake might have fish living within it, but... She reconsidered going on a fishing expedition almost immediately after, and resumed her search for herbs with a duck of her head.

to be blessed with another healer pleased mahler immensely, though in truest form of the shadowpriest, this was shown in naught but an easier step, a brightening of the eyes. as pups would be born at least to takiyok, the musiker found it imperative that diaspora prepare for birth, for the welcoming of children was a rite indeed.
it was the newest geist he sought today, and as he searched for the woman called fern, mahler was reminded of ruenna, for reasons unknown. somewhat distracted, he continued on until he had picked up fern's scent, and spotted her dark form near the lake.
he gave a low chuff and joined her with an affable sway of his plume that signalled she need not display submission in his presence. while it was satisfying at times, mahler oft grew tired of the constant dance that came with hierarchy. and in this meeting, the two of them were equal, healers for the better of their packland. "hello, fern."
