The Floodlands tip-toe, where beavers go

@Laroche

After having joined a pack and exploring the edges of Sun Mote Corpse, the wanderlust of the male was already staring to get excited with the fuzz and buzz of going beyond the borders. It felt strangely safe and peaceful to have a home, as if all the sudden he belonged somewhere and to some family of wolves that he still had to meet. Regardless his wintery wanderings took him to the Floodlands close to the Firebirds territory.

Upon these lands many scents have disappeared, instead only far and few wolves travelled here. The scent of prey-driven beavers, hidden within their own dwellings, became strong. The hunter inside him stirred as he licked his leathery lips, ready to grab a beaver if the opportunity presented itself. For now he was scurrying across the frozen river while his golden eyes envied the snow-covered structures that beavers made. Even with winter's icy breath their buildings were unbreakable. And their hiding place and actually finding a beaver posed a challenge; like invading For Knox. Anyone up for a challenge?

He had left the general area for some time after being unable to place himself anywhere. He returned now though, wandering the coast before heading somewhere he had yet to visit. He was following the smell of beaver, a very familiar scent to the woodland man his stomach growling. He finally found the floodlands and spotted the boy ahead of him studying the dams. Apparently he wasn't the only one hungering for beaver. Laroche approached warily, silver eyes fastened on the male as he stood right over to their dams. Beavers were very very protective of their creations. Quickly he began to dig at the dams, making as much noise as he could and within a few moments there was a loud angry growling sound, higher pitched and garbled than a wolf's. He lunged as a tail swung out, the creature attempting to slap him. It succeeded but he also grabbed it and began to drag the Ange beast out of its hole.

After much struggling he did and he tossed it to the ground, pouncing and ending it's life. He looked up at the male panting and grinning "They will always, always come out if you try to destroy their homes" he didn't care that he had just one upped this boy and ruined a possibile hunt. It was the way of the loner to grab what you could for yourself and the stranger had been too slow. Yet..... starving to death sucked and he wasn't a total assholes. Hating the nice voice in his head that was his conscience he licked his lips "If...you want I'm sure if two of us go at it another will come. I'll help you take down another one" he really wanted to slam his own head into the dirt and hope it knocked some sense into it but hey, it would be his good deed for the day.

Truthfully Epic was interested in a lot of prey but never ever had beaver been on his plate before. These lands, they felt alien and foreign but at the same time thrilling and inviting. He would never pass down the opportunity to join a hunt and feast on the flesh of prey. Though before his golden eyes could scan more of his surroundings, analyze what the beaver buildings were really like there was another wolf entering the vicinity and apparently one who had more experience with killing these resilient buggers.

Before his eyes enfolded quite a show, as the beaster-master wolf was lucky enough to catch one. Although, not quite without taking a hit of his own. "Hey, did you just get beaver-slapped?" Epic wondered out loud, his words carried in light jest. Still when the beaver was dead he suddenly felt his stomach growling out loud, like a lion's roar. Epic had a lean frame and he wasn't called "Twiddlesticks" without a good reason. Never-ever would he turn down an opportunity to hunt. And somehow his stomach prayers had been hard by Laroche's good side. Lucky Epic (for once).

"Yeah, I'd love to hunt these beaver critters." Epic said, turning to Laroche like he was a new student in the classroom while Laroche was the beaver-master, having killed these creatures for a zillion-and-one times. "So, how do I start?"

He went to his dead beaver and pulled it aside, tucking it into some frozen bushes before returning to stare at the male sharply. He ignored the jest, not bothering to answer that yeah, he had been slapped and it definitely hurt. Instead he eyeballed the fortress, walking around it sniffing and listening. "They moved to the other one. All you have to do is act like you fully intend on destroying their shelter, dig, push, growl. They're stupid and super territorial and defensive, they will attack you regardless of the fact we're stronger." he laid out the simple plan and motioned for the boy to follow him.

He slowly moved to the dam on the other side, a less well formed structure probably not finished yet. "Avoid the tail and the teeth. Its all funny till you get smacked and bit" he said this in a serious tone. He meant it. Those teeth could go clean through bone. He turned away and then attacked the dam, digging and clawing at the wood with loud snarls. Inside faint scrabbling and loud grunts and shrieks could be heard.

Patience wasn't his best feature so before Laroche spoke, it felt like eons before he was called into action. Laroche appeared to be a very serious and sensible beaver-master-hunter, one that did not feel a true appreciation of his jokes. But that was okay, hunting was serious business after all. Laroche gave instructions, explaining that he sort of have to come in like a wrecking ball to lure out this creatures and take the opportunity to kill them. Luckily, instructions weren't all given with words, soon it was time for action.

But, to keep in mind Epic made a mental note that beavers could quite hand out a punch too. The young male was soon to follow Laroche and join in on the bulldozing; he gnawed with his teeth at the structure while forcefully sweeping his head from side to side, all while growing dangerously so. Then, a second later his paws dug into the structure with speed, as if a treasure was hidden underneath. Moments passed on an grumble, squints and shrieks were faintly heard underneath the structure.

It didn't take long for beavers to come out of their hiding structure because they too, sensed danger. One of them (the biggest) yowled agressively in the direction of the two wolves while two other, smaller beavers stared angrily but also fearful into the same direction. Leather lips uncurling, Epic showed his teeth, ready for a battle to commence. But how would this end? Who would get the punches and would the other two beavers and Laroche also play a part in this upcoming fight?

The slap happy beavers were quick to come out of their holes, the biggest one approaching his partner and the other two hanging back which showed a surprising amount of brains. He immediately stopped digging and moved to Epic's side, growling the deepest most menacing growl he could. He saw the beefy beaver prepare to attack, angling it's rear in a way that warned of an incoming slap and Laroche sprang forward snapping his jaws and sending the critter on the defensive. One of the wary beavers went running while the second circled, making angry noises but clearly looking frightened. "I'm not killing your food!" he said as the beaver tried to chomp down on his paw, narrowly missing as he hopped away.

Everything happened in a blur, so much action punched together in just a few seconds. The more experienced Laroche warded off the first attack of the beaver, saving Epic on the process while bringing hem back on the defensive line. This was not the end, it was only the beginning. Heart pounding, adrenaline coursing through his body. Epic's eyes grew blurry, like a bull he only had eye for the BIG beaver as he charged on, trying to grasp the creature by its neck. It half-worked and half-didn't (diced 3 out of 5 on discord). Epic hit the big beaver on its flank as the beaver had already anticipated his movements. Teeth burried in flesh but the beaver quickly pulled back and scooted forward for another attack. Shit. The beaver attacked and Epic could only half-antipate as he felt his shoulder being slapped by the beaver tail. Ouch. He yelped shortly, but felt no pain sink in yet due to the adrenaline. Recollecting himself quickly, the young male dove forward, teeth-baring and this time going (hopefully) for a beaver kill.

He couldn't see what Laroche was doing at the moment or pay much attention to the other two beavers. Would they fight or flight?

rolled 5/5 for one beaver and 1/5 for the second. Also I'm a pain in the butt but could we possibly change the date of this thread to the 30th or 31st? I realised timeline wise it makes little sense DX I'll have to edit my first post if you are okay with it. Just to make sure it doesn't have him as lone wolf in Character.

The kid went for the largest beaver which honestly Laroche gave him props for.He was distracted watching his hunting buddy getting beaver slapped and struggling to withhold a laugh and didnt notice the other two grow some balls and begin to sneak up on him. "It hurts doesn'- OW FUCK" his jest was cut off as sharp teeth chomped down on his paw, slicing through flesh. Laroche retaliated by chomping down on the beaver's face, fangs ripping it open and turning it into a horrible mess. He snarled and shoved the annoying thing down, ripping open it's throat just as the other one slapped him on the hind legs. He yelled and whirled around trying to grab the lil shit and failing, though the beaver did scurry off toward the water. "Son of a bitch that hurt" he cursed and looked over to see if the boy had finished his off yet.

Of course, I'm fine with whatever date you wish for this thread; our wolves are still lone wolves then XD Rolled 4/5 for the beaver so finishing off the BIG ONE.
Like an unstoppable bull the yearling charged forward, blinded by everything else that was going on around him. There was only one thing that mattered, slicing with teeth through the beaver. And it happened with bloodshed, gruesome and violently. He heard a large shriek, the protest of a beaver's last breath as the creature fell down to the ground. Drop-dead and not so gorgeous. With his teeth, muzzle and chestline covered up in blood, his eyes looked at the other male who had just dropped a few cursewords into the air. "You did it. We beat the beavers!" He wanted to cheer and but all happy with a beaver body at his side, but as the adrenaline was slowly gushing away the pain of his wound settled in. "Fok, that stings like a beach. Yikes!" Nonetheless, he added. "Thank-you that was beyond awesome!" And now it was time to enjoy their catch.

Laroche shot a low growl off in the direction of the retreating beaver before turning his gaze back at the kid just as he savagely killed off the biggest beaver. He flicked an ear, the equivalent of quirking a brow and gave the kid an impressed look just as the other congratulated him on defeating the beavers. The enthusiasm was endearing and despite Laroche feeling rather grumpy he chuckled and smiled slightly, nodding "Sure did. Good takedown there" he said complimenting in return. He noticed the male's wounds and frowned "Get that checked out okay? Those teeth really do more damage than you'd expect" he cringed as he realised he sounded like his father. He wasn't sure which one of them should take the second beaver but now that he had softened up to the energetic male he had to admit the other should take it. Nudging it toward the boy he stood up again and then turned to go back to his kill "The name's Laroche by the way" he said as he tried to decide whether to eat here or walk away.

He wanted to do a high-five, paw-to-paw if such a thing was physically possible for wolves. At the same time he also wanted to cheer, be happy but the truth was; his wound did really hurt and only now did began to feel the pain that settled in. Regardless if he had to choose, he would without a doubt choose to hunt beavers again. "Thank-you, sir!" Epic said in reply to the compliment while nodding gently about the advice to get the wound checked out. "Laroche, it was my pleasure. My name is Epic." He figured Laroche wasn't the one who liked small talk and their meeting was coming to an end; now they both had a victorious prize which caused them injuries and some bloodshed, it was time to enjoy.

Though before bidding the male a fond farewell, there was still one question that lingered upon his mind. "Hey Laroche, do you mind tp tell me which other prey are so exciting to hunt as beavers? Do you have any suggestions of a place and prey?" Each and every hunt was exciting -- especially if it succeeded -- but there was something very thrilling about killing beavers. Maybe Laroche had some tips to give before they would depart.

The boy thanked him and he nodded silently, though there was a smile in his eyes. He gave his name and Laroche blinked, swallowing a laugh. Such a word fit the kid's adventurous excitable spirit but he wouldn't say so. The conversation dwindled and so he shifted and picked up his beaver ready to head out when Epic rattled off another question. The first thing that came to mind was Badger. He cringed visibly and wondered if he should tell him about it. Sighing he set the beaver down again "Badgers. Forest creatures. Abandoned deer dens or big holes in the ground are where they stay. They're...more of a fight then a hunt. They have wicked claws, horrible ones. Quicker than you'd expect but they make good eating" he said and then fixed the boy with a serious look, once again looking like his dad "Don't be cocky with em. They're a mean prey" he said and then smiled, humor in his eyes "Real fun to piss off though" he added. At that he nodded his farewell and picked his badger up, giving Epic a pointed look that said he would be heading off.

so so sorry for the wait! I love Epic, he's so happy lol
