All Welcome
okay last aw for eye opening stuff. don't want to spam the forum.

okay so the giant grey blob was mom and the creamy blob was sionnach (aka lumpy, aka cheesebutt, aka a great big nerd), that must have meant that the other two blobs were the twins. they didn’t really look alike, though. one blob had some different colors going on in it. maybe that one got peed on. either way, aengus had started to get the hang of his newfound eyesight. he was making discoveries and most of that was happening while his siblings were napping their lives away. a shame, really…

he wobbled his way away from his mother’s stomach and scooted himself across the den floor with a few tentative squeaks. if they had found a way to create an image of themselves for him, he wondered what else there might have been out there that was full of color. as exhausted as he was, aengus was way too invested in figuring out just what had happened to him that he might have gained this superpower. honestly, it only made sense that he would have been the hero out of his litter, right?

While the puppies weren't old enough to be formally introduced yet, Ashlar had asked @Mona if he might be allowed to see them.  With @Gannet escorting (and a few firm reminders from his mother to be gentle), Ashlar set off to Liffey's den.  He didn't quite understand why he might not be allowed too close, but he followed the adult's lead willingly.

When Gannet stopped, Ashlar snuck up behind his charcoal feet and peered through towards the mouth of the den.  Slowly he began to creep forward, then glanced back for any sign of disapproval.  None were forthcoming.

Feeling emboldened by this, he crept the rest of the way, stopping only when a warning woof sounded from Gannet.  Ashlar froze near the entrance and waited, though as his eyes caught sight of the wolves even smaller than him, they widened with wonder.  He hadn't ever met anything smaller than he was!

aengus had managed to put some decent space between his mother’s slumbering form and himself. even on his stubby little arms and legs, the boy had managed to draw himself close to the mouth of the den. he’d seen the first glimmering of sunlight and had found himself completely transfixed by the premise of it. of course, nothing was going to hold him back from exploring the phenomenon.

it was not until he had scooted a little too far that he felt the cold wash over his round figure. aengus lifted his head back and squeaked sharply into the den. he could not really make out the shapes that were outside, but he definitely saw that there was something out there. it was kinda bigger than he was and had some darker coloration than the young aengus had ever seen. that wasn’t really had to accomplish when the only thing he’d been privy to was the pale underside of his mother, and his stinky siblings.

Something inside began to move towards him.  Ashlar did not know what it was, but it moved awkwardly and let out small squeaks.  He felt a flutter of anxious butterflies beat against the inside of his chest and backpedalled a step or two away.

He was young enough that when curiosity and caution warred within him, generally curiosity won.  In spite of the fear he felt facing the unknown somethings in the dark, he began to edge forward again.  This time he yipped softly.  He was invited in (assuming) but wasn't sure he was quite ready to go yet.

well, ashlar should have definitely felt some kind of butterflies in his stomach. he was looking at the rolling form of a stunning specimen, after all. well, aengus wasn't quite to the point of being a stunning specimen, as his limbs were still nothing but weak nubs and his eyes were barely working, but he was on the fast track to some great shit. thankfully, ashlar seemed to think so too, because the other boy stepped a little closer to peer into the dark hole.

aengus squeaked again and inched forward a little bit, hoping that some of that glorious sunlight would wash over him and fill him with warmth. what he did not realize is that he was probably scooting his tubby form further from his mother than she would have been comfortable with at his young and impressionable age. oh well, you live and learn.

It was looking like his courage wasn't quite up for descending into the den with the small things, but Ashlar felt an encouraging nudge from behind. If Gannet wanted him to go in, then maybe he could just a little.  Just for a little while.  Ashlar stepped down with his tail slung low beneath his stomach and crept forward into the space.  He sniffed Aengus experimentally, then looked nervously at Liffey, who likely was more amused than anything else by how terrified he was.  What could they possibly do to him?

Ikle, hido  he babbled, leaning down to look eye to eye at the baby.  Then he giggled, releasing the nervous energy now that he was actually inside.

Liffey wasn't amused. Not in the least. True, the expression she fixed upon her face was friendly. Her features were relaxed and there was a smile there, sitting where it was supposed to. If anyone was looking closely, they would've seen the way it didn't touch her eyes. They would've seen how her fiery orbs were sharp, hot, and full of scorn.

She didn't want this child anywhere near hers. This bastard born of immorality and blatant disrespect. It had never sat well with her that they'd allowed Mona to remain in their ranks when her pregnancy had come out. They had said back at Sunspire that it would never be permitted again. Yet, here they were. Mona remained. She'd taken advantage of Gannet's good-hearted innocence. And now, her bastard was playing with Liffey's son as though he were in any way worthy of her prince's attention.

Liffey knew on some level, of course, that this was not Ashlar's fault. Part of her pitied the boy, who did seem to be a sweet thing in spite of the misfortune of his birth. That part made her feel guilty for the way she regarded him. She knew Rannoch would be ashamed of her for feeling the way she did. If only that good, forgiving, empathetic part of her was strong enough to quell the rest.

The woman laid her head on the ground and continued to watch silently, thoughtfully.
judgmental mama cameo :D

let me make friends, MOM!

damn, mama bear... take a xanax and go to sleep or something. we don't need this game of thrones villain monologue going on in your head; that's some whack ass shit. plus, who the fuck wanted to contribute to this weird political game that was going on? certainly not aengus; the little bull had just found himself a prime play friend. fuck all the rest! if he could make friends with this complete stranger, things would surely be looking up.

of course, he was deaf to the noises that the other pup made. that didn't stop him from wiggling forward and opening his mouth to create a gaping hole in his face. this was an invitation, ashlar, and it was one that was not to be squandered. time to come hither and stick your head inside that gaping hole. sure, it'd be a little moist inside, but that was all part of the fun. the more shocking thing was how long aengus was capable of holding this alien facial expression.

Ashlar was blissfully unaware of a mother's scorn directed his way, though perhaps her stare should have pierced him somehow.  Instead the young boy's attention was wholly captured by the tiny wolf who was opening his mouth wide and crawling towards him.

Ashlar didn't know what to make of it.  He wiggled his butt and inches forward, then blinked at Aengus.  It took him a minute to sort it out.  Once he had, of course he was going to do it.  He was a child too, and children tend to speak the same bizzare language.  Ashlar giggled and lowered his nose into the younger boy's mouth, then experimentally sniffed.

yeah, buddy! get a whiff of that good puppy breath. aengus squeaked delightedly at the participation of his new friend. they didn't need words to have a good time. no sir, they could easily just get along with each other while sticking their faces in each other's mouths for the next short while. the little bull scooted closer to his newest companion and attempted to nuzzle his tiny snoot into the underside of ashlar's chin. curious as he was, aengus did not fully understand how he had never met this one before. he didn't think his mother had popped out any extras, but he really didn't grasp the concept of birth to begin with.

his tail wagged wildly behind him, beating against the ground and whatever else was nearest to his butt. his rotund form did not make moving entirely easy, but he was doing the best that he could with what he had and that was all that could really be expected of the boy. he had a guest, after all, and he wanted to make ashlar feel welcome.

It was delightfully fun to have a common goal, even if that goal was putting noses in each other's mouths. Except Ashlar didn't reciprocate.  Instead, Aengus nuzzled him under the chin, and Ashlar lifted his head and put out a paw.  With it he drew the other puppy into a hug that would have been sickeningly adorable to anyone watching.  Except the only one watching kind of hated him, so it was a bit of a wasted moment.

It was good that Gannet made a point to bring Ashlar to them, because aside from this, the small silver-gilded pup had no siblings to play with.  If he was going to socialize it had to be with the other pups of the pack, or he'd end up awkward and have even less clue how to play than he did currently.  Sorry Liffey.

Luckily too, what Ashlar lacked in play he made up for in cuddling.  The boy was an expert, and he practiced as often as he could.

the little bull was swept up in the arms of the larger pup and pressed close to his chest in the cutest motherfucking hug that could have ever possibly happened. a tiny squeak of happiness was released from the round child as he was embraced. even liffey could not have ruined such a tender ass moment between two children who had only just met each other and had already stuck their heads in each other’s mouths. take that, helicopter mom! aengus could make friends without any trouble.

once the smaller boy was closer to the warmth of ashlar’s body, he could feel just how tired he had gotten in all of their romping together. he had a figure to maintain, though, and it was one that could really only be upheld by gorging himself on milk and sleeping for twenty hours a day. since he had found a comfy snuggling friend, aengus didn’t see why they couldn’t take a nice little nap together.

his mouth opened in a wide yawn before he pressed his head against the chest of ashlar. it should have been invitation enough; let’s nap bitch and then we can do more fun things!

Napping wasn't something that Ashlar did super often (there was so much to explore) but when it came in combination with a good cuddle, how could he resist?

So long as Liffey didn't ruin this adorable moment by kicking him out, Ashlar settled in comfortably.  As he hugged his newfound teddy bear close, he tucked his own head in and fell promptly asleep.  Outside, Gannet presumably was able to hunt nearby, letting the children do their cute little bonding thing.

that’s really all it took, folks. all he needed was a good friend and a warm body – bam – lights out. aengus was snug as a bug, and he wasn’t about to be moved for anything. the two kids napped for the next little while. even liffey did not disturb the cute moment that they shared. it was something that would hopefully start a great friendship with one of the other kids in the pack. aengus needed someone other than his stinky siblings, anyway.
