Joining
the beast crept. closer. hesitantly. closer. people. their musky scent. their steps on the ground. a startled hope flashed in his brain. scents swirled about him. some fresh. some old. some simply there. he crept toward the invisible line that reeked of community, tail down and close to the ground. he was low to it by choice, trying to pick up the faint vibrations that signaled others' movements. so far, only the quietest of tremors was heard. he'd grunt, a soft snarl tugging at his blackened lips. a fat tongue would roll out, testing the air before retreating.

he'd silence himself out of instinct. people meant hurt usually. it meant pitchforks and fire and burning and rejection. rejection. his shoulders stiffened, his piss colored eyes widening against his grey face. if the people here... didn't give him acceptance... where would he go? what would he do? fuck, he didn't even know where he was. the beast gave a whine, the tendrils of it reaching the ears of any nearby. he did not go over the border. perhaps some small sanity left in him told him to hold. and he would. hold that is. slinking further down until he was crawling toward the very tip of freedom slash pack.

his maw rested against the cool earth, a grumble softly coming from him until a more appropriate gruffly made call was made. call to them it said and they will answer. in theory.

unlike her first time residing within the woods and basically refusing to get in anyway involved due to some weird little act of denial her mind was staging as to actually wanting to be there, tundra had come to terms with the fact that this was indeed where she wanted to be and that her mind could relax. this pack was a home, quite unlike what she was used to which was what had stirred her initial unease to settling in the first place. however now that she'd given into the uncanny draw that kept her from wandering far from the looming trees, tundra let herself do what she did best, protect it. and so it was no surprise that when the call sounded she had also happened to be sticking to the forest's edge, feeling more on guard than she'd ever been since finding the teekons due to the melonii's seeming ease at reaching the heart of their territory undetected.

her direction would shift slightly so that her form would slip betwixt the trunks, resembling nothing more than a ghost until coming to a slow halt. a smoky coloured man resides close to the ground- bright yellow eyes focused on their home. an openly judging gaze would travel over his crouched frame before returning to meet his bright eyes. something about him made her nose wrinkle ever so slightly, an odd feeling of unease stirring in her stomach but having no solid evidence for the feeling and putting it down to simply being on edge due to the recent invasion. the ex soldier would narrow hollow eyes as she'd be quick to cut to the chase. "who are you and what brings you to our borders, wolf?" should he request to join she'd call for maegi, ramsay or mou but she wasn't going to leave a stranger unaccompanied at their borders to wait for someone else when she'd been wandering closest to his call anyway.

if she was looking for an explanation, she would find none. at least, not any feasible one. the beast would watch as the woman approached, half-grumbling to himself and a half giving off a warning growl not to come closer. it was an odd sound without a raised lip. a form of a whine without reason. his chest rumbled at her presence, vibrating against the cool earth. some part of him was excited - but it quickly faded in the presence of the stranger. she was an unknown. she could chase him away. she could hurt and cut and bleed him dry.

but he wouldn't make it that easy on the woman.

the beast would lift his head, piss colored eyes staring openly at her. his mouth opened several times, trying to form words. his tongue felt fat as always when he tried to speak. useless. "mmmm" he'd rumble at last, tilting his head slightly. frustration welled up and a flash of anger settled in his brain before disappearing. he was used to this. and it was not her fault. "gu... gu-oin?" he offered, looking a bit surprised he was able to even say such a thing. as if that was good enough, he'd rise from the earth to stand. looking expectingly at her.

perhaps the unease hadn't been uncalled for, she supposed her gut instinct had gotten her this far so why start doubting it now? incomprehensible noises would slip from the seemingly cowering brute and tundra would subconciously flex her claws against the soft dirt. was he even sane? sure she should chase him off if not, not only was it basic protocol to not accept something into your pack that could cause it harm, she specifically remembered maegi telling tundra she didn't want anymore crazy in these woods. had she been in this circumstance a year or so ago it would've been an easy decision, chase him off at once or possibly end such a miserable life. yet things were obviously different here and....so was..she. however that would not make her easy on him and not a chance was she letting him past if he didn't get a hold of himself, it wasn't her choice to make but personally the mere feeling she got around him would be enough to deny him access to the place.

but trying hard not to jump the gun she would simply gaze on harshly as he appeared to attempt to speak- and failing, over and over again. biting back her rising impatience, the fae would clench her jaw but still keep silent. her muscles were bunched under her thick pelt and she felt like a coiled spring- ready to snap at the slightest sign of a threat. he just wasn't right, his mere scent seemed tinged with...well plain wrongness.

'gu-oin?'

was he asking to join? had to be it. she'd inhale slowly, gathering herself and letting the snappy emotions brought on by her unease fade back behind a simple reserved but still cold look. when she spoke in a clipped tone it was simply to repeat her intial question- "who are you?" he wouldn't get an answer on his request if he couldn't answer a question as simple as that. there was more she wished to ask but aware that his speech seemed somewhat...limited, she'd try not to bombard him.

that seemed to be a hit. the beast would look utterly delighted as if he was a child - a pup - being praised. the woman seemed to understand his words but had posed another question to him. something he could not answer right away. his massive head would tilt, a look of confusion swimming deep in those muddy eyes. who was he? who... was he? he was he. he was here. somehow breathing. somehow alive. though questionable if he even wanted to be. who was he thought? some random wolf. some nobody.

but -

she meant a... name, right? a name. what was the name? his name? he hadn't even heard it spoken in so long. no pleasant lips ever were graced with it. it was always a cruel word, a lording over and then it was nothing. he was nothing. he didn't mean anything. "mmm" it was a mistake to come. he had no inkling of his name and he couldn't give the nice lady a reasonable reply. she put up with him - because that's what nice ladies do - but he hadn't missed her defensive behavior. "m-ee... me?" he looked lost.

and suddenly there was a flash of light as he recalled. a soft groan escaped his lips, the moment painful mentally. he'd give a shake of his head, a violent one. teeth crunched together. drool went flying. "Da...Dag...mar? mmm... Dagmar." inside, the laughter of others. inside, always judging. but he gave a reply. he tried to focus on that.

she remained as expressionate as a block of ice, dark eyes narrowing further on his pup-like display of proud glee. completely insane..little unnerved the young soldier but those that had lost the grasp of their mind always left her on edge. it could perhaps be her greatest fear, the idea of losing touch with your own mind. she may have hurt the relationship between her and the emotions that resided somewhere but she at least still had a firm grasp on her mind. that was all that really mattered..right?

her question seemed to be an issue with him as he instantly fell into some kind of spiral, confusion latching onto those yellow eyes. still she'd remain aloof siding her ears falling back against her head even as he stammered out a lost 'me?' as if she could be asking anyone else. the whole display left her feeling chilled all over and whilst some might feel pity- after growing up in a world devoid of such a thing she was left feeling a simple mixture of unease and..disgust to be frank. "yes you" is all she'd mutter, gaze sharp.

he'd groan at that but something in his gaze seemed to clear somewhat- however with it seemed to come a great deal of unhappiness for the brute as she'd step back with a grunt as little bits of drool went flying with the verocity in which he clenched his jaws. was his identity that bad? and if so what would it mean for them should he be granted access to these woods? all she wanted was to chase him off, keep the forests pure but she wasn't in charge here and she'd vowed to be loyal to maegi and so would go with her decision. when finally with a great deal of effort he managed to present his name to her she'd push on relentlessly. "okay dagmar. tell me, what would we even benefit by letting you into these woods? tell me something to make it even worth calling a leader" perhaps her ways seemed cruel but it was all she was used to and really all she was doing was trying to keep the woods safe and he was far from proving himself not to be a threat to them.
