Pack hunt! Not mandatory <3
Set for early morning
I was thinking I'd probably do 1 week rounds with no posting order or requirement to post in each round
@Rosalie @Chusi @Akatosh @Soltero @Talos @Benedict @Sherigrim no tag for Alessia because she's busy being a mommy

He found himself tracking the herd of deer on their daily path along the creek. He settled a safe distance away, lying among the vegetation as rain sprinkled down from the sky to collect on the edges of his inky coat. The deer were grazing comfortable, completely unaware of his presence for now, the rain helping to mask his scent. Today, a large stag moved alongside the herd, making the alpha salivate from hunger and from the prospect of a vigorous hunt. Some things he could do on his own, but taking down a buck was not one of those things. Normally, he would just continue to watch the beasts, taking an opportunity only if it presented itself, but he couldn't let go of the possibility that, with some help, they could take down the massive deer and feed the pack for days. It would be especially nourishing for his still-nursing mate.

Slowly and silently, Kavik stood and padded away from the herd until he was a safe enough distance to call for any willing participants. Lifting his muzzle to the sky, he released a long howl, summoning his packmates to come help him hunt. After, he trotted back to his spot, thankful to see the stag still grazing among the herd. He took a seat and waited, hoping at least two other creek members would show soon.

he didn't need to ask. Benedict could smell the deer from his position, having briefly watched them near the territory before giving up on tracking them. perhaps it was because Kavik had immediately seen them or perhaps he was sticking to the small game right now. his rabbit hunt with Rosalie had brought something to the coffers but they did need more food. he also didn't want to make a fuss and call for a hunt if people were still getting used to him.

so it was best that the alpha had chosen to. he'd been nearby at the time and moved fluidly enough to the other man. " 'unt?" he asked quietly, though he had been in pack hunts before. they did need a few more people to control the deer effectively and he'd recline near Kavik and wait for the others to show. this was his focus. group hunting and manipulating prey to do what the wolves needed them to do. already, Benedict was thinking of possibilities. but he kept them to himself, for Kavik was the leader.

he'd do what the dark man wanted him to do.

Dozing alongside Alessia, the pups nestled between them Rosalie lifted her head at the sound of Kavik’s howl. Looking at the babes and Alessia once more before standing softly, checking that the children were still napping Lie gave Alessia a lick on the cheek before heading out of the den. Re-entering the real world.

Making quick work of the distance from the Alpha pairs den, Rosalie came face to face with Kavik and Benedict. Dipping her head in greeting toward Benedict, she turned to Kavik. Giving him a kind smile, she dipped her head again, after their squabble on the night of their children’s birth Lie had done a lot of thinking about the man. Perhaps it was time for them to have another heart to heart.

Settling alongside Benedict, not only the only other wolf their but admittedly the only wolf she knew marginally better than Alessia and Kavik.

*salutes* Resident young screwup reporting for duty! Any of y'all feel free to PP Talos or of course the deer as need be, up to and including more injuries and/or collisions as you'd like. *tosses puppet strings to rest of pack*

Talos was on the far side of the herd, and the growling of her stomach was so loud in her ears that she could hardly hear or think of anything else. It was almost as if it had put a buzzing bee inside her head that was driving her crazy and leaving her unable to concentrate on anything else. She smothered the whine rising up in her throat and licked her lips as her feet shuffled restlessly forward in their crouch behind the bush. It had been some days since that last carrion she had scavenged, and while Talos had never before even attempted to help with hunting deer (much less taking one down entirely on her own) she could smell just how wonderfully juicy their limbs would taste between her teeth and had a niggling little voice inside her urging her to get up and try it. It was increasingly drowning out any other, more cautionary voices in the back of her mind, especially as a dribble of drool was starting to collect along the rim of her mouth. She was so close here, closer than she'd ever been to a living deer before, and surely it was almost close enough to get that particularly fit-looking young buck in a single jump?

As it turned out, it wasn't. Not even close. Talos leapt, and landed with a thud as the buck jerked his head up and bugled in alarm. All of a sudden there were hooves, hooves everywhere, all around her as the herd bugled loudly enough to leave her head ringing and the deer stampeded madly in every direction. Except for the buck, who was rearing up and jabbing his stubby antlers towards young Talos as she scooted back with an undignified squeal half of protest and half of surprise. What the hell?! This dude was prey— and prey wasn't supposed to fight back! Talos yelled as the young buck jabbed at her again, with her hastily dragging her tail through the dust and not even bothering to get properly up in her flailing attempts to backpedal and get out of the way. She squeaked in surprise as the thorny bush she'd been hiding behind jabbed her in the rump, and then she somersaulted improbably sideways to avoid the brief charge of the angry buck. Ahhhh yah wai', get back 'ere! she cried desperately as she saw the last of the smaller, less-furious and more-flighty deer bounding speedily away. She somehow managed to regain her feet and, miraculously, only received a sidelong clip of one flying hoof upside her thick skull as she scrambled under the rearing buck's chest and then off to the side where she'd last seen the retreating female deer's rump. Her head was spinning and she hardly even noticed the small trickle of blood streaming its way down and past her ear as she half-chased and half-fled in dizzy confusion, stretching her coal-black legs to the utmost as she ran after the penultimate deer of the now scattered and stampeding herd, hoping all the while that the final, furious buck wasn't following—though she certainly wasn't gonna slow down or stop to turn around and look.

Oops? Up ahead Talos's anxiously pounding heart lurched as she heard the rise and fall of Alpha Kavik's voice as he called the other wolves to the hunt... probably never imaging that hello, folks, here the hunt was coming to you.
Tell me something that i'll forget

The call was answered with the presence of multiple creek wolves that day, and among the slowly gathering group emerged the silver streak of Soltero, sliding in his solemn quietude up beside the troupe and passing a nod of greeting to each one; the former beta's gaze lingered for a moment more on Kavik, pondering the right moment to converse with him, but decided that for now, the hunt was of greater importance. Breaths of frigid air licked down his spine, but the Valento focused his mind on the task ahead - while he wanted to inquire about what his position among the pack was now (would he be promoted back into his old position, or were his services not required any more?), he understood that now of all moments was not the correct moment to ask. Another time, perhaps when the hunt was done, or when he understood his own goals better.

Currently unaware of Talos' presence further along the creek's edge, Tero's ears flicked in anticipation, nose twitching, idly scrounging for details of the prey's numbers and their location in relation to the hunting party. What he did not expect, however, was the sound of trampling hooves, growing ever-nearer. They'd been spooked, but by what? Or, rather, who?

Then he glimpsed the charcoal girl. His blackened lips might've twitched into a half smile, if not for the miniscule stream of red trickling down her forehead, the startled glaze of her eyes; right, that must be the reason for the herd's sudden scattering. With a burst of adrenalin came the searching of his own vivid gaze, quickly observing the situation and watching for the movements of the others - while he was sufficient enough at hunting smaller prey, larger creatures such as the deer were almost foreign to Soltero, who'd never been given the opportunity (too busy travelling, feasting on rabbits and squirrels he'd caught with his mother).

Benedict was the first to arrive, followed soon by Rosalie. Kavik gave them both an appreciative nod, repeating the gesture as Soltero joined them. There's a large buck among the herd today, he started quietly, assuming everyone was familiar with the herd that frequented the creek. Four hunters should be enough, the alpha continued, emerald gaze moving over the three that had answered his call. Rosalie and Benedict, You two cut the rest of the herd in the opposite direction of Soltero and myself as we draw the attention of the buck, then-- he didn't get a chance to finish laying out his strategy as his voice was soon drowned out by the banging of hooves on the ground as the herd came stampeding towards them, the young female, Talos, weaving between the startled beasts.

His eyes whipped to the buck running not far behind the girl as if he were chasing her. We can still save this. I'll distract him and you guys just pile on him and bring him to the ground, he instructed, his words fast and loud. Without wasting time to make sure everyone understood, the alpha turned and jumped into the fleeing mess of deer just as Talos sped by him in a blur of charcoal. The buck continued to charge forward, this time aiming his large antlers for Kavik, who promptly evaded the formidable weapons with a jump to the side, effectively stealing his attention and allowing Talos to escape. Just as quickly, he rushed forward towards the angry bull, jaws snapping the air in front of him to keep his attention. He repeated the pattern--taunt and dodge, taunt an doge, hoping his packmates would jump in and do their part to take the creature down.

The rumbling beneath her feet started small and continued to grow in magnitude. The red woman didn’t have much experience in pack hunts but she had a distinct feeling that this was not how it was supposed to go.

Not giving much thought to the youngster, Lie launched herself into action. Kavik distracted the man while her and the others did as instructed. Leaping at the hind quarters of the large beast, Rosalie grappled with the stag’s flank. Snapping teeth and swiping paws to try and trip the creature. Distracted by the energy of the hunt and potential meal, Lie missed the hoof coming her way, until it had solidly connected with her right shoulder.

Letting out a startled yelp the girl backed off. Unable to keep the quick pace, Lie ignored the fiery pain and prowled on the edge of the frenzy looking for any potential advantage. Blood dripped down her leg, a significant gash breaking the skin bled heavily.

*finally tiredly wordvomits out another reply, yargh  @.@;; *

Talos hadn't a clue she wasn't the only one here who'd never hunted a deer. She barely had a glimpse to spare for her old friend @Soltero, much less anything resembling a coherent thought; her eyes jittered over him and a number of other pack wolves before again desperately seeking her targeted doe's retreating hindquarters. What she should have been more concerned about was the large angry buck still hot on her tail, but Talos wasn't exactly thinking straight here, especially with the buzzy bee in her skull having had the bone-rattling drumming of the hoofbeats all around her added to its tempo. Talos aimed a snap at the doe that came absolutely nowhere near connecting. Her tongue lolled from her mouth as she lunged haplessly onward, suppressing a yip and skidding sideways a little as one sharp hoof raked her hip.

She was shocked and then relieved as a sudden large blur of black fur went speeding daringly behind her, getting in-between the youngest wolf and the angrily brandished set of antlers in her wake. Kavik was there drawing the buck's attention, and Talos was panting hard as she finally allowed her body to slow down—something she rather had to do now, with the sudden pang in her right hindleg. She quickstepped off toward the side and turned toward the spectacle of Kavik and angry buck, though not without a last longing look and whimper after the vanishing rest of the herd. Her ears swiveled to follow the Alpha's movements and her eyes widened, impressed by his daring and skill, before her attention was distracted by the sudden flash of brown-and-grey fur that was a female she didn't recognize launching herself at the buck's rump. Talos winced sympathetically as the bitch received a solid kick for her efforts. Y'awrait?! she called, hop-skipping her way over toward the female, though she wasn't certain if her words were actually audible through the din.

Talos's ears folded back in distress and dismay was writ plain on her face as she saw the stream of blood marring Rosalie's leg. The adolescent gave her head a quick, impatient shake to rid itself of its own much-smaller but currently-more-annoying tiny stream of blood as her lowering of her skull caused it to reroute its ticklish trickle directly toward her eyeball. She clumsily swiped a paw across the side of her face to banish it more thoroughly before again peering at the other female's leg. She attempted to offer up a few cursory licks to try and clean the mess up as the other bitch kept stalking the perimeter. As Rosalie didn't seem in any real danger of immediately dying, however, Talos turned her face back toward the buck. With a menacing growl and a little less speed than before Talos launched herself back at the offending deer. Improbably enough, she managed to mostly-avoid Kavik as he dashed in front of her again, and to instead get ahold of the meaty muscle of one flailing cervid foreleg as it came whistling down. Talos tried to give it a vicious shake, but she moved more than the deer did, being pulled awkwardly down toward the dirt along with the leg yet refusing to let go of the prize she'd finally gotten clenched between her teeth. She did make an incoherent but loud startled noise as the jolt of impact resounded up through her skull and rattled her brain, though, along with a sharper exclamation as her claws scrabbled for purchase on the pebbly ground and skittered her hindend around sideways, including (somewhat unfortunately) her earlier-bruised and screaming hipbone. It was just enough of a move to spare her from the first hasty spearing attempt by the buck's antlers, as the prey animal bellowed in fury and abortively tried to get both Kavik and Talos, but it looked pretty questionable whether it'd be enough to let her dodge the next one, especially with her so mindlessly and bulldogishly clinging onto that foreleg.

I'm going to go ahead and phase this out since it's kind of old and half of the participants are ppc

His back and forth with the buck worked somewhat, but in an attempt to help him take down the prey, Rosalie had taken a kick to the shoulder. He turned, worried glance shooting to her, but the buck took that opportunity to charge in his direction. The alpha jumped back, narrowly avoiding antlers to the chest and immediately charged forward again.

Talos jumped back in then, attaching herself to the beast's front leg. It worked well as a distraction, but he wasn't sure how long she could maintain her hold. Eager to finish this so he could check on the two injured women, he took a chance and launched himself at the buck's neck.

Teeth sunk into flesh, and the deer thrashed back and forth under the weight of the two wolves. Kavik wouldn't relinquish his hold, though; he had connected with the vessel that ran down their prey's neck, and he knew the beast would soon give up his fight.

It turned out he has immense stamina, and it took a painfully long time for the buck to fall. By the time it breathed its last breath, Kavik was sore and tired. He stood up and immediately went to Rosalie. Are you okay? he asked before turning to Talos and inquiring the same.

Makes sense! ;)
Last post from me here unless someone specifically pokes Talos.

Talos rolled her eyes back and to the side, watching the antlers flashing toward her once again as her clenched teeth grimaced but still stupidly, stubbornly refused to relinquish their hold. Kavik intervened just in time once again, however; only the longest tine reached her, and it left only a shallow score beneath her eye and across her muzzle before the alpha male’s much greater weight yanked the buck’s head aside for good. The deer bellowed and bucked, leaving Talos’s head swimming as she held tight to her bulldog grasp on the flailing forelimb. Its thrashings grew weaker and weaker, but when it finally stilled along with the rest of their prey it took Talos another long moment to realize it was dead. The world still seemed to be spinning at strange angles around her, making it pretty hard to be certain what was actually moving and not.

Distantly she heard Kavik’s voice asking if she was okay. It took another few seconds for her to unclamp the vise of her aching jaws in order to muzzily reply, ...Uh huh. Then she stagger-limped several paces away and unceremoniously puked into the nearest convenient stand of bushes. The very picture of the graceful and noble wild wolf posing in grandiose success after its hunt, right?

Paradoxically she did feel somewhat better once the bile had exited her throat, as she sat there working her jaws and licking her lips while making some exaggerated faces. Her eyes were focusing better, and while her tummy was still very empty at least it wasn’t roiling along with the rest of the world now. All the same, she thought it might be a good idea to wait a few minutes before eating, even if others who outranked her wouldn’t have taken precedence anyhow. She half-slumped to the ground to rest for a moment with a dramatic comment of, Ulllgg.

“I’m fine.” She gave a slight nod, it would take a few days to heal but she would live. Biting her tongue, Lie bit back the anger the nestled in her chest. Trying to remember a time when she had been young and foolish, but coming up short. Although she was a little pissed, Lie was glad to hear that she was somewhat ok. Even if she lost her stomach in the bushes.

Lie watched the girl slump to the ground. Some lessons were harder than others. “Don’t forget to check in with Sherigrim.” The words were haphazardly thrown over her shoulder, if she was old enough to hunt she was old enough to know when she need medical attention. With the reminder given, Rosalie returned her sights on the deer, waiting for permission from Kavik before she presumed to take anything.
