the girl grimaced as she inspected the healing cuts on her ankle, delivered as part of an unlikely possum's last words. she'd packed moss around it, and kept it hidden as best she could from Baelfire. she didn't want or need him to know that she'd been out of the territory, hunting, when he'd explicitly told her to rest. and while the scratches on her muzzle and most of those on her ankle were healing, the deeper half of the bite was swollen and bulging - an abscess, though she knew it only as the dreaded infection she'd heard time and time again from Baelfire, Brisbane, and others. chewing carefully at her ankle and around the abscess, worried, now, that she'd have to find Baelfire and admit what had happened, she resolved to take care of it herself. Resolute, she moves to search for some of the herbs she knew or heard could help, pausing every so often to worry at the abscess.

Gannet was thoughtfully silent as always today as he shifted among the trees, though today was heavy on the thoughtful. It wasn't an upset sort of thoughtful, just a steadying one, brought about by some of the conversations these last few weeks.

He needed to take a trip soon to learn more, and he'd need to let Mona and Ashlar know. He'd tell Rannoch too.

It was the scent of it that led him to her, and as soon as he caught it, he tabled that thought train. What happened? He asked the girl as soon as he spotted her, likely startling as he appeared from the shadows of the trees. But there was only concern in his voice and face, nothing else.

the ghost's appearance was sudden, and her head had been in the process of moving towards her ankle when she started. her muzzle flashed upward, and she realized in an instant that he was no ghost - merely a boy with a certain, soft way of movement. she blinked away her surprise enough to answer him steadily when he asked. "I was hunting and got bit. it's infected." she displayed the ankle and the inflamed lump to the boy, considering for the first time that it might look a little gross.

Gannet waited patiently while she explained and showed him the wound, but he frowned as he saw it, then bent to look closer. It needs cleaned, he said, though it was obvious. It also needed help, but he wasn't certain he knew what could do that. Lyra had used something on his leg... perhaps he could find one of them here. Do you want help?

she dipped her head at his words, dipping her head to worry at the abscess again. "do you think I should-" but before she can punish, the skin bursts beneath her not-so-gentle gnawing and the abscess drains messily. she licks her lips, grimacing at the terrible and bitter taste of infection. his offer is easily accepted, then. "yes."

Gannet didn't react much as it drained, and only moved when she answered yes. He moved down to gently clean it best he could, though likely it would hurt some.

Do you know herbs? He asked as he did, pausing and then continuing as he waited for an answer. If not he could guess, based on what he remembered. It needed something more than a wash to ensure the infection went down and didn't return, but what was a mystery to him.
