All Welcome
Penn was a quiet, well-behaved little boy. At least, he had been thus far. Being little more than a bean with squiggly legs and a wobbly head didn't really give him much to work with in the way of causing chaos, even if he had been inclined to do so. But he was getting older now, his squiggly legs were getting longer, and his wobbly head was... still wobbly, but getting easier to control. He had a long way to go, but he had come far enough to start living, if only a little bit.

The pup had just woken from a milk-induced coma to find himself feeling inexplicably restless. Though unknownst to him, he had fallen behind the rest of his siblings when it came to his physical development in that his eyes hadn't opened yet. But this didn't strike him as a detriment (seeing as he wasn't aware of it), and it certainly didn't hold him back as he began to wriggle away from the warmth of his mother's side and start to explore his surroundings on his own. Just a wee bit.

Born with only three senses, having recently acquired and then mastered a fourth, Sugar now slowly came into the fifth and final means of perception. It began with a strange sensation inside her head, then what came after that, the youngster could not have described even if fully articulate. But now sounds, faint and faraway, added even more dimension to her world. Her head cocked first to the left, then to the right, as she responded to these new stimuli, black eyes blown wide with immense curiosity.

When Penn ventured away from their mother's side, Sugar glanced at him. There was no noise associated with his movements (that she could perceive yet, anyhow) and so she turned in another direction, ignoring her wayward brother in favor of their father. She had previously felt the vibrations of @Elwood's deep timbre, now she could very dimly register the sound of his voice as well. Wetting her lips with a tiny pink tongue, Sugar began moving toward her sire, so ensnared by this new sensation that she paid no attention to where she was going and stumbled right into Penn. The surprised oof! noise that sprung from her own lips startled Sugar as much as the impact itself.

Maaaaaaaan, are you kidding me? His siblings could even hear now too? Good lord, Pox had a lot of catching up to do. For being the best of the Blackthorns, he sure was the worst in way too many ways. He'd have to work on that, once he was done with what he was doing.

Doing what he was doing quickly became a bit problematic, though, when he was suddenly faced with a roadblock in the form of his wee little sister. Penn felt her bop into his side, and though she didn't actually impede his path, he was still somehow momentarily incapacitated. He swiveled his head to the side to explore this new not-really-an-obstacle and found Sugar's familiar frame beside him. With an indignant little squeak, he opened his jaws wide to glomp her--his way of saying hey, stay in your lane!

She was pondering where that noise had come from when Penn swung his head blindly in her direction, mouth opening wide. There it came again, only it was a little different: higher in pitch, not that Sugar had the wherewithal to note these things on any conscious level. She stared into her brother's gaping, gummy maw for a moment. Rather than avoid it, she then thrust her little pink nose directly down his throat, eager to locate the source of that strange squeaking noise.

Penn felt a very brief, fleeting moment of triumph before Sugar Glider outsmarted him by strangling him with her face. The boy gagged and coughed her head out of his mouth, backpedaling to get away. He tripped over his own paws along the way and tumbled to the ground with a sharp squeak and another round of coughs. His mouth tasted like sister and he was not pleased.

She did not exactly find what she sought, though Sugar was treated to the stimulation of nearly all five senses at once as Penn spat and attempted to retreat. She felt the warmth of his breath and the moistness of his saliva even as he made the most intriguing noise she'd heard thus far. She watched as he toppled over backward, strange black eyes blinking several times at the sharp squawk that he made on impact with the den's floor.

The same instinct that compelled pet dogs to attack squeaky toys drove Sugar forward, her own toothless mouth making an ineffective pass at Penn's throat. Her attack was less deadly and more ticklish, though it was entirely possible she was partially throttling him (again...) as well as she mashed her gums into the soft fur at the side of his neck.

Well bully for god damn Sugar Glider than this ordeal was a fascinating experience instead of a dang shit show as it was for Penn. The boy squirmed and whimpered and whined as he tried to regain his bearings and get his peets back underneath, only to be thwarted by his fly-sized sister once again. He instinctively tucked his head down to rescue his throat from gumming and kicked out with his front paws to bang her face away from him. He missed, of course. She had the advantage of sight whereas he had the advantage of nothing whatsoever. But at least she had missed his throat and merely began giving him a hickey on his neck.

His previous attempts at rescuing himself now failed, the boy wasn't sure what to do. So, he cried as loud as his lungs would allow in hopes that someone else would save him from the adorable little leech that was currently attempting to murder him.

She felt something brush her face but ignored it in her single-minded pursuit of Penn's jugular. The pressure felt good on her gums as she ground them into the folds of fur protecting his throat. She pressed harder and harder, until her brother's wails made her loosen her grip in surprise. Whether because he moved or she did, her toothless maw was suddenly empty.

The crying did not end right away and Sugar took a step back, wrinkled ears twitching. It was only the proximity that made it seem loud to her, for her ears were still only barely functioning. She blinked her black eyes and took an instinctive step backward. Unlike the brief squeak of before, this nonstop noise made her want to run away, not attack.

With the ungainliness of infancy, Sugar Glider scrambled away from Penn, having chosen the latter option when presented with fight or flight.

Pox's cries did gain him some attention, but not really the helpful kind. Fin picked up her head to peer at the pair, curious to see what all the fuss was about. But by the time her eyes focused on them, it appeared to her that Sugar was the one who needed tending, so it was Sugar that got scooped up and transplanted between her forearms where Fin began trying to groom her into silence.

So, I guess it was the helpful kind. Pox rolled onto all fours again, peering blindly around the den and sniffling in an attempt to locate his sister. He thought her trail went off to his left, so it was that direction in which he began to pedal. Because while he didn't particularly want to find her again, he did want to make sure she was safely away from him. And obviously the only way to do that was to go prod at her while Fin held her tight in her arms. Puppy logic.

Her clumsy getaway was scuppered by none other than her own mother. Sugar let out a squawk as Finley lifted her, every muscle in her small body immediately relaxing in response to the pressure on her scruff. She was safely deposited between her dam's forelegs and then groomed in such a way that she entirely forgot she'd been fleeing.

When Penn appeared nearby and began to poke at her, Sugar batted at him as if he hadn't prompted her fight or flight response a few moments prior. In between flails of her stubby forelimbs, a great yawn overcame her, forcing her tiny jaws apart so that her pink tongue curled forth between darker pink gums.

It didn't take the boy long to determine that his vampiric sister had officially been wrangled, thus making it safe for him to set out again. His mother was pretty good for plucking out troublemakers and coaxing them back into obedience, which he appreciated so long as it his making of trouble that was being stopped. With a bout of squeaks that made Finley smile through her taming of the little squirrel, Pox turned back to his mission and began again to map out the den.

Unfortunately, he made it only about three inches until he found himself smushed into Elwood's side. He was a goner then. Something about dad fur put him straight into nap mode, and after taking about ten seconds to reason that he had done quite a lot today, he went ahead and gave into the impulse and was himself dozing within about three minutes.
