All Welcome
Markus has a rabbit and will fight a bitch.

He was pretty much proud of himself. He'd gotten up that afternoon - late but what can you do? - and he'd tasked himself with doing something important. He was on the borders of Neverwinter frequently but with the return of that dark female, he didn't think that was enough. He had to step up. He'd thought about asking Mal how he felt about Ambassadors and whether he'd want one. Markus thought he'd be good enough for that. It took a lot of work, which sucked, as well as a lot of socializing...he wasn't too bothered by that when the weather was right. Mostly it was the fact that Markus did not possess the energy for a quick fuse and he preferred to look and listen rather than start in with the teeth and snarling. He had the temperament for the work...even if that were only true because of his apathy.

As it were, that was a discussion for later. For now, he had scored. Now, he had set out to find the pack some food and he had done that. He wasn't just pretty much proud of himself, really, he was damn proud. From his jaws, swinging with its fur almost totally white, was a rabbit. It wasn't even too scrawny, either. He'd come back to the exact place he and Mal had unearthed the first rabbit and while he did not know if this was a relative or not, he'd actually found a second. Unlikely? Yes. Reality? Damn straight.

So he headed home, head higher than normal, a bit of a grin around the burden in his maw and while he was much, much hungrier than the time he'd caught the rabbit with Mal - he would have rather died than eaten the kill between his teeth.

He had to find more food. The situation was growing more desperate by the day. Tye did not want to be reduced to the next meal shared among Moonspear, torn to pieces by the pack which had saved him (sort of). The image of Hydra's brood tearing strips of meat from his bony legs, or making a game of tug-o-war out of his knobby spine, gave rise to a stronger sense of insomnia within Tye. He became hyper-vigilant in his waking hours.
In short, he was one of the most stressed out, unhealthy messes in the Wilds - and that's saying something.
Today (at least last he checked it was daytime, but it shifted to night so easily, and all of it bled together --) he had descended from the mountain with the intention of hunting in the lowlands. It never entered his mind that he could flee now, escape the Moonspear wolves and his position as their omega. If he did that he'd surely starve to death, at least this way he might be working hard for his meals, but there were meals.
The glen surrounded him. He couldn't recall when he'd entered it or how long he'd been patrolling through it, scouring every inch of the forest floor for scents; he moved like a zombie, dragging his heels, or skittering from shadow to shadow like a spider, focused and desperate. The scent of rabbit eventually hit his nose - rabbit, and blood. The boy swiftly adjusted his course so that he could find that thing, whatever, wherever it was... And came across the path of a wolf.
They were ahead of him, moving at a clip between the trees and heading north. Betwixt their teeth was a limp rabbit; the sight of it made Tye's mouth water, his heart race. He tried to sulk closer as calmly and quietly as possible but the scent drove the malaise from him and he was far less from subtle as he came upon the stranger, eyes wide and fixed upon the carcass.

Hydra halfheartedly followed Tye to the Glen, more for the hunt for food than the pursuit of him. The Queen drifted loosely around him, sniffing and searching for something of substance. Hydra caught sight of the familiar sight of the male who had once come too close to Moonspear; she bristled, fiercely irate that he had seen fit to hunt from grounds Moonspear had always prowled and hunted upon.

As she saw it, he had stolen a kill from her. It was not the first time he had come too close to Moonspear; for all she knew, he may have hunted it upon her mountain. Even if he had not, Hydra would ever defend the Glen as she always had.

Ears thrusting forward, Hydra commanded of Tye: get the rabbit, and return it home.

She herself rushed Markus mutely, lunging to snap at a heel and to even grip it, if she could. Tye's ability to participate in this event might very well change his status among she and her pack—now seemed as good a time as any to test his mettle and his ability to obey her command in times of true strife. She hoped that Markus would release the rabbit so that Tye could do as she bid; she would fight for it. One rabbit, two rabbit, any rabbit, any thing found here—it was Moonspears.

Just don't kill him. Only rule here. Do we want to do the dice roll thing? I have never played like that before so I'm not sure how it works but I'm open to it!

Markus was, perhaps, the most ignorant wolf to reside in the Wilds. He had not lived here long and before that things had been different. He looked upon the world with pessimistic eyes but not ones that sought evil in every little thing. It wasn't in his nature to assume the worst of individuals, even if he was sure the world was mostly crap. It wasn't his fault, really, but there was also no mercy from it. He was not looking for them when they appeared. He saw the omega first and his eyes narrowed - if he thought he'd be taking anything from Markus, he was mistaken. When he saw the other - the more familiar one - his hackles came to stand full on his shoulders and along his spine.

Oh, fuck.

He had time to wrinkle his nose around the rabbit, his normal diplomacy lost as he stared daggers at the dark female from before. He didn't trust her and he didn't like her - he was smart enough to know that talking wasn't going to work. He had eyes only for Hydra as she commanded the other dark shape (was everyone on that mountain just a shadow?!) to take what was his - or more accurately Neverwinter's. Mal's. His ear flicked back to listen to the omega wolf but his focus was firmly forward as the alpha lunged.

Markus let go of the rabbit out of instinct. He had heard Hydra telling her follower to take it and yet he couldn't help that it dropped from his mouth as he whirled and his teeth snapped to meet the dark female - low, near his legs where she had been aiming. He realized what he'd done quickly, however. Suddenly much less interested in Hydra, he whirled again to grab his rabbit, snapping at whatever was between him and it - he did not aim, his only goal was to secure the food back into his possession.

We could roll dice! Tye is going to lunge for what Markus is holding so I will roll a D10 for level of success:
3

The presence of the queen would have unnerved him at any other point; the boy was too fixated, too hungry, too desperate to be afraid of her though. Her commentary was not necessary—Tye knew what to do and was fully committed even before Hydra made herself known to him, although having backup was a blessing, more-so for the woman's prowess and overall power. There was little to no hope for Tye to succeed without help.
He lurked just out of the stranger's range but was creeping closer at every opportunity. The slightest shift in the man's focus brought him closer by a breath, a step, a shadow—and soon the omega was close enough to touch the man if he desired it, but the wrinkle of their snout made him pause. His ears slicked against his head as he contemplated, in quick succession mind you, the best angle of attack, or the best moment—and that was when Hydra made the first move.
The queen lunged, the man countered. In the scuffle the rabbit was abandoned and Tye was in position to intercept it, and moved to do so; but that was when the man remembered his prize and whirled back to try and grapple for it. Tye felt something collide with his curved back, teeth catching against his taut flesh and forcing him sideways as the stranger's gnashing teeth caught the curve of his visible ribs. Tye scrambled to stay on his paws but he could not reach the rabbit afterwards; he spun instead to face-off against the stranger, his yellowed fangs on full display.

As discussed!

Hydra did not trust Markus either—not after observing him skulking too near to her borders for her liking—but did she dislike him? No; the truth of it was, beyond that interaction he had been entirely forgotten. The thing about ordinary wolves was they were forgettable; he had done nothing to stand out other than get too close. Even now this interaction between them was not one Hydra thought much of, and as for her personal opinion of him? It still did not exist.

She cared for one thing, and one thing alone: her family. Tye was among that privileged number now, and she fought for him too. The meat that he had pilfered from the Glen was theirs, and he would not get away with it.

Tye had been close, but not close enough; Markus countered with his teeth well enough for her initial strike to be little more than a jaw spar. That was alright, as her maneuver was rather lazy in its delivery to make a point he did not seem to understand: drop it and go. Foolishly he turned away from her, leaving his leg ripe for the taking; unprotected as he was, he made it too easy.

Swinging her hips away, Hydra surged forward to attempt to grab his hind leg again, low, near his hock—this time as he moved, while he whirled—so that she might unbalance him as he reacted to Tye. Her goal here was to unbalance him as he moved; all the while, Hydra's own defenses were set while she moved—ears flat and eyes narrowed, her body a missile that moved in the same way Markus did so that he would find the weight he employed ideally overcompensated to the point of refocusing upon her, or his decision simply to flee, and forget the rabbit.

There was a moment of fine clarity in Markus. It would never have been considered genius because, as anyone detached from the situation could have pointed out, Markus had been told as much. The realization was simple. They wanted his food, he knew that. The key was the one who was meant to take it. He had focused squarely on the alpha female because he did not like - no, hated - her. But it was not her that was set to take the meal, it was the other. She had said so and he had ignored it - heard her tell the omega but not listened.

He was listening now.

His teeth scraped uncomfortably along protruding rib bones - a grotesque feeling making its way up his teeth, like nails on a chalk board. He would have shuddered in a different situation. The clarity refocused his attention but Markus was a fighter neither by trade nor inclination. His mind when static-like again as this time, he lunged forward with all his strength at the smaller, weaker male. He meant to bowl him over, smash him into the ground and tear at him with his teeth - anywhere they would meet. But, something caught his leg and pulled him up short. It was her, again. Pain and hate coursed through him as he stumbled, feeling her teeth in his flesh. A choked snarl escaped his lips as he grabbed for the rabbit with a forelimb, pulling it toward him - underneath him. At the same moment, he turned on the female again, twisting so as to land on his side and bite at her face, her eyes, her nose - anything.

i selfishly want in on this thread, for arcturus' guardian mastery. he's just arriving as of this post!

it was not unusual for arcturus to trail after hydra during their excursions into the wild. sometimes, they parted ways -- and sometimes, they traveled together. today, arcturus had not kept up with hydra's company, and it was not until he found her scent intersected with tye's that the male became curious.

his curiosity turned into something else, once he heard snarls in the distance.

rousing his tired legs into a long-striding gallop, arcturus keenly listened as he went, ears thrust ahead and breath in great gasps as he quickly closed the distance between his packmates and whatever was transpiring. from his brief time arriving, he thought he saw hydra scrappling with a stranger -- but it would be several seconds more before he arrived and was able to lend a hand.

The pale creature, face dark save for the flash of bright eyes and brighter teeth, set upon him with the intent to maim and take back the rabbit which he had discarded. There was only a moment for Tye to lunge for the dead thing; but the target was pulled out of his range by a deft tug of a forelimb.
Tye ducked and pulled back as if mirroring the momentum of the pale wolf; when he saw that no further attacks were inbound he grit his teeth and dove nose-first for the rabbit that sat beneath the wolf. He did not think of his extended neck, did not move at all defensively as he sought his prize. Hydra had the burly creature occupied just long enough for Tye to feel safe and accomplished.
He snapped in a frenzied manner for some piece of the rabbit, his eyes narrowed, and so he did not know if he grasped the carcass or the wolf lording over it. Either way he snapped and pulled, snapped and pulled, trying to gather something before Hydra could lose her grip.

She was pleased for Tye and his relentlessness in the situation, not missing this even as she went for Markus. Hydra succeeded in her endeavor, releasing only when she felt the result; and then she watched as the male lost his footing even while trying to keep the morsel for himself. Tye would not allow it, it seemed, lunging for it before Markus hit the ground, before he even turned to her—while he turned to her...

Hydra withdrew for but a beat to adjust her own position (only just so), but his teeth scored against the bridge of her muzzle. If blood was drawn from that she did not know it yet, but it would surely bruise and it smarted; with renewed vigor, but no frustration to cloud her judgment (it was not as though she did not think he would not land a strike on her at all), Hydra sought to engage him while he was on the earth, circling left, circling right, relentless as she harried him with snapping teeth that did not seek to maim or rend flesh from him but that would, ideally, keep his focus on her, on her teeth—keeping herself in places where he could defend with his own still on the earth so that Tye could get the job done.

Hydra knew victory when she saw it, tasted it then as she postured before him and continued her aggressive maneuvering, mindful to keep her own limbs well enough away from his teeth. And in her peripheral she caught the sight of Arcturus striding their way—still, Hydra remained ceaseless in her accosting of the mans person, no pattern or rhythm to be discerned.

She sought to teach a lesson to Markus; the Glen was their hunting grounds. All knew it, and only Neverwinter did not yet respect it at this point (that she had seen in all this time); she would not have it.

Bit of powerplay, @Tye - lemme know if you'd like me to change it!

It was confusing and painful - a flurry of teeth from both the omega (who managed to get his legs in his snapping jaws more than once before they found their target) and most primarily from the head bitch. His brain did not know where to turn, how to focus - who he would focus on, even if he could. Markus was not a fighter. He was a diplomat by virtue of laziness, if nothing else. Still, even in the haze of pain, confusion and fear he sought the rabbit. He reached below himself as it was pulled away - he saw it go. His jaws snapped on a delicate, mutilated ear and it tore free from the carcass.

His teeth clamped shut around his prize - though it was not much. It was nothing, in fact. His head ducked, his ears pinned, he curled defensively then. He felt the stinging, heard the noises above him but he shut down instinctively. He made only to endure the punishment, his small, useless piece of rabbit in the cage of his teeth. On some dim, far away planet he wondered if she would ever go away - if she would just stay and bite him, bruise him, blister him until he died. But even that thought did not last. His eyes screwed tight against the onslaught, he curled in on himself and waited for it to be over.

arcturus opened his stride as he saw Markus turn on their omega. hydra was a wolf who needed no protection, but tye ... the beta’s strides grew in length until he was nigh upon the trio.

he did not care for the rabbit; his goal was to extricate tye while hydra hailed hell on the wastrel. with a heave arcturus pulled tye away, not gently — yet not unkindly. his fangs bared as he snaked ahead of the omega, lips curling in a silent grimace. standing protectively between the omega and the duo fighting, arcturus watched keenly for any opening, ready to dive in at a moment’s notice if markus’ submission was a feint.

Tye had gotten what they had come for, and Arcturus was there before him to protect him should Markus again vye for what was not his. Hydra, seeing this, at last relented in her harassment; she withdrew, and as she looked down upon Markus the Queen snarled: the Glen has always been hunting grounds for my pack; you are free to explore this place, but never steal from it. Now go, Hydra commanded, baring her teeth. Her tail lashed behind her, the low growl ceaseless within her throat. She felt her point had been made; hopefully, it would be remembered well and he would think better of where he hunted.
