She felt mean. She'd let her mate in on the nights it was rather cold or wet, but for the rest of the time he slept outside. Not that he'd complained too much, bless him, but she couldn't live like this.
Now, for her giving birth, Vanity had secluded herself from the rest of the pack and made a new den deeper into the woods where the willows brushed the ground. Not her usual brooding place, but it was nicer than the northern den site of  Shadow Grotto.
She wanted@Arwen and @Leshen to open their eyes in a place of beauty like she had, not in deep darkness.
Besides, it seemed more peaceful here.

The wind whistles in the willows, swaying the branches just in her view.
Above her den was a stray birth that had grown and fallen here during the winter. She'd made her den under it because to prevented others from making the hole too big.

She moved up, squeezing out of the den, hoping Hashut was close. She called him gently, as to not alarm him, as she couldn't see him instantly.

arwen's priorities were nothing more than eating, sleeping, and screaming - in that order too might i add. when she wasn't doing any of those, she was often found squirming around the den until a pair of swift jaws moved her back to the warmth along her mother's side.

here she would gnaw at the lump beside her, otherwise known as her brother. strangely enough while she was busy chewing on leshen's ear, a new sensation began to take over. slowly eyelids began to peel back until quickly squeezing shut once more. she did this multiple times until eventually, a pair of baby blues were visible to those around her, while the world became visible to her.

Vanity returned to her den, snuggling back up with her babies, nosing over them softly.
The day was peaceful, she could feel the breeze brushing into the den, replacing the slightly stale air. Sunlight dappled through the trees, lighting the dust particles swirling like dancing fairies.
Arwen started bleeding again, but this time it was a higher pitch than her usual hunger cries.
Vanity tilted her head, licking her daughter to remind her that she was not alone. Never alone in this world.

Ah, her eyes. She was opening them for the first time.
She smiled softly, licking Leshen too to make sure he wasn't left out.
At last, Arwen seemed to settle with the dim lighting, revealing her pricing, ice-blue eyes. They looked like the brightest days, the purest of oceans.
"Hey little one," she cooed softly, tail softly thumping the ground in unchecked joy. And why should she not show her happiness?

there wasn't much to see, considering everything was a blur. she could make out light and shadows, the figure of her mother, and a few dull colors. it was enough to start with, though a little overwhelming to say the least.

she let out a squeal, a few exhausted blinks, and then proceeded to quickly squeeze shut her eyes once more. she'd been blind all her life, and while admittedly that hadn't been very long, it was all she knew. she was perfectly fine being left in the dark, at least for now anyways.

The small squeals and appearance of being shocked by this new revelation in life made little Arwen seem all the more adorable.
She had a long way to go still, but she hoped that her sootball would make it.
Soon after they opened though, her baby blue eyes closed.
And what a brilliant array of skies and oceans she held in her gaze, which Vanity expected to turn to icy daggers in the sunlight.

She pulled Leshen to her and licked over his eyes and face, wondering if she could tease him to open his eyes to reveal what his eyes looked like.
Vanity hadn't seen many pups at a young age, not at least with open eyes, and wondered if they were all blue.

comfortable to let her eyes remain shut, the squirming ball of soot wiggled her way over to where her brother rest, only to discovered he'd been snatched away. while her chew toy was busy being fused over, the frustrated girl let eyelids peel back once more to glance around.

the silhouette of her mother was overwhelming large compared to the shadowy figure of her brother, but that hardly mattered. with her target acquired, arwen crawled as fast as those chubby little legs could go until she eventually reached the blurry shape that was leshen. once by his side, her mouth parted to once again begin gnawing on her brother's ear, a habit that was something akin to a child sucking on their thumb.

She smiled as Arwen scooted to her brother for reassurance, causing her to have to open her eyes to see where he was, now that she knew that relying on touch wasn't needed anymore.
As she groomed Leshen, his sister muscled in on the action and started chewing his ear, closing her eyes again.

"You're cute," she complimented in her native tongue.
Her daughter was incredibly cute though. She deserved the world.
Her son too, he deserved a lot. He was a little slower in development it seemed, but she was sure he'd bloom.
