All Welcome
She meant to go back and follow up with Moonspear, though she'd since realized it didn't make sense to live there, much as she enjoyed @Opalia's company. Namely, there was her recently discovered fear of heights, though many other reasons besides. She would still go visit when she could, though Sugar knew there were actually other, more pressing house calls she needed to make. It was time to head back to Triquetra to bear the bad news and check in on Tegan's and Bat's little family.

After that bittersweet reunion was done, she decided she would pay another visit to @Avery and @Crow at Frosthawks. Maybe she might even stay there a little while, do some training with @Raven and simply enjoy some company for a while. She hadn't established much of a cache yet, so she could leave it behind and start a new one in the forests there. That would also put her pretty close to @Eljay and the rest of the Firebirds. She couldn't bring herself to try living in the copse again, though it'd be nice to be nearby.

Feeling content with her plan for now, Sugar began making her way toward the pack just south of Serpent Lake. She had one little pit stop she wanted to make en route: she hung a left at Meadowlark Prairie rather than keep going straight south, eventually putting her in the vicinity of Sawtooth Spire. She wanted to check on @Praimfaya, make sure she'd made it home and was on the mend.

Title from "The Tyger" by William Blake.

it is upon her patrol of sagtannet's borders that praimfaya comes across the scent of sugar glider wafting upon the soft, always present breeze on sawtooth. the commander makes her way towards ...a brief moment of consideration on what they were — friends? acquaintances? strangers ...albeit a stranger that saved her life? ( no, considering her a stranger feels rude given that she was one of the two reasons praimfaya still likely drew breath ). it does not take praimfaya long to reach where the other girl was, her frostbound gaze studying her. though a soft smile plays at the edges of her lips, praimfaya cannot help the furrow of confusion of her brow as she approaches with a soft chuff.

hei, she greets with an amiable wag of her tail. what brings you my way?

She considered howling but noticed a pale figure in the distance, likely patrolling the borders. Instead, Sugar remained silent and waited. As the stranger came closer, she realized it was no stranger at all; it was Praimfaya herself. She was a little surprised, though she didn't know why. The she-wolf had survived quite the mauling and walked herself home at the end of the day. She was made of strong stuff.

"Hello, Praimfaya," she said, dark eyes immediately pinning on the woman's wounds, which looked like they were healing nicely, turning into fresh scars for her collection. "I came to see how you were doing. I know you don't know me well but I fancy myself a 'nomedic'... it's my job to travel around and check on my patients." Her lips pulled into a smile. "So, how are you feeling?"

praimfaya's ears cup forth as her steps draw to a cease close to the borders where sugar glider lingers, offering the young medic that helped to save her life her rapt attention as she speaks. her purpose here quickly unravels as she informs that she's here to check on her. a soft snort of laughter leaves praimfaya as sugar glider calls herself a 'nomedic'. nomedic. that's cute. she says with a soft laugh. i feel great. though her words part from her lips breezily, they are nevertheless true. she feels as good as she had before the fight and bore no psychological sorrow at the scars — in her culture scars were badges of honor. thanks to you and stryx.

is there any way i can repay you? praimfaya asks, knowing that saving her life has been no small feat and that such diligence and compassion — especially for a stranger — should be wholly rewarded.

"I feel great," she reported and Sugar might've felt skeptical if Praimfaya didn't look so hale. She was happy to accept this answer at face value for that reason, which of course made her feel... not accomplished, exactly, but fulfilled, in a way. She'd done her duty and done it well, with Stryx's help and guidance, of course.

She had anticipated the next question and fought the impulse to emphatically shake her head. "Aye, I demand your firstborn," she quipped, then finally gave in and shook it after all. "No, seeing you alive and well is reward enough. The only thing I'd ask is that you make the most of it: your life, I mean. But that's clichéd, isn't it?" Her lips twitched.

"And, I suppose..." she admitted in the next breath, looking around as if in search of something before facing forward again. "If you have any food around here, I wouldn't mind a snack for the road. I'm traveling to see family," Sugar explained.

i demand your firstborn. praimfaya lets out a low, amused snort. not that her firstborn was a potential price for her life — her culture did pit the fos goufas against one another in a fight to the death to become commander and no one batted a paw at it, after all — rather praimfaya's amused by the thought of having children. not because she hasn't considered it ...lately, she has been. the commander was meant to be alone but she inadvertently had ideas for cub names swimming about her head, thinking that it was the only way to keep the line of commander blood going ...but as far as she was aware, having cubs required a mate. which she didn't have. would probably never have.

can only barter with my firstborn if it's even a remote possibility. she points out with sardonic humor lacing in her tone, followed swiftly by a casual shrug of her shoulders. a bit cliché, yeah, praimfaya agrees in a teasing tone. but don't worry, i don't plan on wasting it. which probably meant no more reckless fights over something as petty as not wanting to take the long way 'round.

we can spare some, praimfaya agrees. there's a cache not too far away. i'll be right back. wanheda says before vanishing back the way she came. minutes pass and she returns with a relatively fresh groundhog clasped betwixt her jaws. hope this is ok. she says after she sits it down and nudges it over the borders towards sugar glider. it's the least i can do.

you gonna stay with your family long? praimfaya asks conversationally.

While Praimfaya departed to fetch something to eat, Sugar pondered her words. She took them to mean that the woman didn't have romantic prospects, perhaps no aspirations either. She actually reminded Sugar of Towhee, who was similarly a caricature of a hardheaded warrior with an undeniably good heart. And though she'd never met the Regent's offspring, she'd heard that Towhee was a mother now. Did that mean she had a mate? Somehow, Sugar couldn't picture it.

Soon, the scarred she-wolf returned and Sugar gratefully accepted the small game. "More than okay," she assured, "thank you." She pinned the little carcass to the ground and tore into it, ripping off chunks of meat and swallowing them. She hadn't realized just how hungry she was until the groundhog was more than half gone.

Pausing, Sugar addressed her hostess's question. "No, I'm just dropping by. They live a little south of here in a pack called Triquetra, on the far side of Serpent Lake. I just need to give them a bit of news," she explained, taking a breath as she once more mentally braced herself for that difficult conversation, "and check in on my brother's kids. And then, well, I'm off to another of the family packs: Frosthawks, to the west." She hadn't made any solid plans beyond that.

"You know," she said after a beat, black eyes gleaming, "I was thinking of joining Moonspear but I think I've decided against it after all. I really like Opalia but I don't actually know much about them..." She had nearly made a very impulsive decision that day and was glad it hadn't worked out in the end. She still didn't know much about the drama involving the pack and Praimfaya—she had decided against prying—but her gaze was speculative as it rested on the other woman's face just before she dropped to take another bite.

in a way, it sounds like to sugar glider, triquetra and frosthawks are praimfaya's crogeda — with significant differences, of course; but on the whole, praimfaya understands. it'd be nice to have a crogedian at her side that she could ask to relay messages to her aunt thyri from time to time but that was neither here nor there. if thryi needed her to know something, no doubt her astute aunt would send someone. i kind of have a pack like that. my aunt is the ...quasi-leader. quasi because praimfaya, despite the difference, remained the head bitch in charge commander nonetheless. they're not too far out of the wilds. she mentions it merely to draw the connection, the need to show ( herself, mostly ) that she wasn't too different from sugar glider.

sometimes, it was too easy for her aggressive nature ( thanks blodreina ) to make her feel alienated; an insecurity, perhaps.

the news that sugar glider considered joining moonspear comes as a slight surprise and praimfaya's ears perk forth with subtle interest. opalia's great, but she wasn't enough to excuse the no doubt bitterness moonspear probably feels against her ( praimfaya ), nor the sketchy things moonspear's leader, hydra, had done to praimfaya in the distant past. things that the desperate and extremely young wanheda had been willing to overlook in favor of a place for her and the kru that followed her.

praimfaya isn't sure how much she wishes to share, not necessarily wanting to color sugar glider's perception of the spear wolves. they were good, for the most part, even if she doesn't look so favorably upon them now ( a sediment that likely went both ways ). as you might've figured my history with moonspear is tumultuous... even before i dispersed suddenly and without word after my mentor, dacio's death. when i was searching for my blodkru, my family, before we joined moonspear, hydra kept the fact that they were in moonspear from me. and praimfaya isn't sure she wants to forgive that. not in hindsight. not now, when she is older and more than capable of blazing her own trail without the worry of being a target because of her youth.

holding petty grudges was an inherited nature. her mother was the queen of them, after all.

Mostly because her mouth was full, Sugar didn't say much in response to her companion's remarks, at least right away. She listened closely, of course. She was most curious about the forthcoming information about her past trifles with Moonspear. She touched on them only lightly, though it made sense and matched up with what Opalia had mentioned to Sugar back at the beginning of her search.

When she finally finished chewing and swallowed, Sugar asked, "What about your pack here? What's it called?" She had only recently begun to realize how many packs were littered around the Teekon Wilds and the immediately surrounding areas. "And pardon my nosiness but this is quite a ways from the coast. What were you doing there and, well... what happened, exactly?"

Praimfaya had been out of it much of the time following her rescue and Sugar hadn't wanted to bother her during her immediate recovery. But then she'd gone home a bit abruptly and the medic had never really gotten the story. She didn't hold it against the hoary she-wolf, though Sugar wouldn't soon forget their (Stryx's and her own) concern and fear about being attacked themselves. Praimfaya didn't owe them an explanation, per se, but the traveling physician would still like to know what had happened.

this is sagtannet. praimfaya introduces. they are the product of a merger between my birth pack diaspora, and another pack mahler called courtfall. praimfaya lets out a heavy sigh. it's home, for now. one day, she would make another 'geda' of her own ...but for now she was content to try to repair ( some ) bridges she's burned in her short life. after accompanying a friend up the coast, i was visiting dragoncrest cliffs, which used to be my mother's home. she left shortly before i was born. i was curious about it. maybe i'd hoped it would make me feel closer to her. a sentimental notion that praimfaya is only slightly hesitant to share. sugar glider saved her life, though. she's seen praimfaya at her most desperate.

i was trying to cut thru ravensblood forest to see the cliffs one more time before heading back here when i was intercepted. this woman — i don't know her name — became rapidly hostile and aggressive, claiming the forest was her and her partner's. i told her two wolves doesn't signify a claim and meant to pass thru. she could've escorted me if she was so worried about it. it wasn't like, in praimfaya's opinion, it was a nice territory. instead, she attacked. i would've won the fight, worse for wear as i was, if her partner wouldn't have interrupted.

as a nice little scandalous spin on things, turns out i'd met him and had a friendly spar with him days before.

praimfaya rolls her shoulders. and that's the story. i'm real great at making friends, huh? she asks teasingly, with a playful roll of her eyes. more like, she had her mother's skill for making enemies.

Sugar had never heard of any of the packs Praimfaya named, which wasn't surprising. Not for the first time, she wondered just how many packs roamed these wilds. But she didn't let her thoughts wander long, focusing on the warrior's words. She couldn't help but sympathize with her acquaintance as she talked about visiting her mother's former home. Their situations were fairly different, though Sugar knew her parents' old stomping grounds would always be special to her, even if she couldn't bring herself to live there anymore.

Something about her tale reminded Sugar of that dark, rainy night when she'd run into Caligula. But he'd mentioned wolves to the south of the coast, not near the coastline itself. Sugar's brow furrowed as Praimfaya detailed her accidental trespass and the resulting fight. Her lips pulled into a frown as she deliberated what to make of this information. She was inclined to take her patient's side, of course, but wolves were territorial creatures and some didn't take prisoners when it came to defending their claims.

She opted not to opine too much on the matter, out loud or otherwise. "Well, you can count me as one, if you like. And I'm truly glad you made it out alive," Sugar quipped. She paused, considering. "I will say one thing: there are evidently so many packs around here, I'm surprised any of us can move freely. I'm going to consider what happened to you a cautionary tale and be even more careful when I'm ranging. You can't be too careful, especially when you're traveling alone." That inevitably made her think of her older brother, though she shook the thought from her head.

She drew in a breath and toed the rest of her small meal. "Speaking of which, I think I'll take the rest to go and be on my way. I hope our paths cross again, Praimfaya, but hopefully not because you need emergency medical attention again." A small grin curved her mouth as she gathered the rest of the meat and prepared to retreat, though not before bowing her head and giving Praimfaya a chance to say any closing words.

You're welcome to wrap and/or just pop it in the archives. Thanks for the thread! :)

a smile tugs at praimfaya's lips as sugar glider mentions that she can count her as a friend. i'll hold you to that, y'know. praimfaya teases lightheartedly, tail swaying against her hocks. i'll be more cautious, too. praimfaya promises, in the hopes that — as sugar glider goes on to say — their reunion isn't a life or death situation. she might've been right when she told opalia that when she dies her spirit will go on to guide the next commander but it didn't change the fact that her life would still be lost in the process; using the fact that she would live on in the next commander was a small measure of comfort for those that ( by some miracle still ) cared for her.

gouthru klir, sugar glider. praimfaya murmurs in trigedasleng. it means 'safe travels'. she offers the translation in the next breadth of breath. — and i promise i'll try my best to be in one piece the next time we meet. praimfaya says with a soft laugh, seeing her friend off. she waits until sugar glider's figure disappears out of view before returning back to her patrols.
