I thought sadpants @Bronco could use a new thread, if you're available!

Brooooooncoooooo! shouted Alyx into the trees bordering the rendezvous. It was a sunny mid-morning and she ought to be out admiring the flowers and exploring, normal kid stuff, but instead she had a Super Important task and the only wolf who was up to it was her big bro. It seemed improbable that simply shouting into the woods would summon him to her side, but Alyx wasn't the most logical of thinkers. In fact, at three months old, she rarely thought logically at all.

BRONCO! she hollered more loudly, emphasizing it with an impatient stomp of her left hind foot. Where the heck was that guy?! He was always around! Well, except when he was patrolling and hunting and doing big important adult stuff... but this was so much more important than all that! And it wasn't like she could go looking for him. Sure, she'd left the rendezvous unsupervised before, but that was before Meerkat got the dreaded G-word, and she didn't want to end up stuck here like her sister.

So she called for him and waited, as impatient as any young child could possibly be.

<3 always.

He wasn't sure if it was the summer heat, and how it had begun to intensify, or if it was because he still felt left-behind and ashamed, but he felt the days drag on slowly, and had lost some of the spirit in his step. When left to his own devices, Bronco would patrol the borders with a distant gaze, dutifully fulfilling his job as a guardian as he'd been advised by Towhee, but he found he'd begun to lose interest. Maybe it was because it was simply him wandering around the borders every day- the same path, the same surroundings...And he knew better than to be ungrateful for the calm- but he wasn't sure that this was really the quality of life he wanted for himself. He wanted something- but he wasn't quite sure what it was.

He put on a brave face for the others, but he'd not been visiting the Rendez-vous site as regularly as he had, and had yet to even move back into the area as he was still more or less avoiding his mother. But...He couldn't stay away from his siblings for more than a day or so, and when he heard a voice demanding his presence, he stopped in his tracks and laughed softly. He'd earned this- he was Alyx's knight now, so he had to answer her beck and call. He was a bit tired from having patrolled the borders, and he could tell even by this point in the day that it was likely to be a hot day- but he trotted toward the clearing nonetheless, tongue lolling out as he caught sight of his little sister.

"Hey, Princess," He chuffed, and uttered an affectionate growl as he reached out to give her cheek a lick. He sat down, so he could at least take a break before she inevitably made plans for them. "'Cha wanna do today, pretty girl?" He asked in his calm baritone.

Ah, there he was, right on cue! To say Alyx hadn't noticed Bronco's withdrawal was an understatement. She lacked the emotional intelligence yet to pick up on her brother's moods, so all she ever noticed was her usual goofy big brother and knight. Considering all her other siblings were practically or literally unavailable to her—three of them having left to travel the world, while her littermates didn't spend much time with her at all and were nowhere to be found most of the time—even if he was scarce, he was still present more than all the others, which might as well mean he was always there.

Hi Bronco! she greeted, failing to follow suit when he sat down. She failed to catch on to his exhaustion at all. C'mon Bronco I need help gettin' something super duper cool! C'mon c'mon c'moooon! Hopping in place, Alyx coaxed him back to his feet and took off toward a particularly thick tangle of trees, eager to show him what she'd found.

In part, it was a good thing that his sister didn't pick up on his misery, as it meant then that they might not have to acknowledge it. Sometimes it was just a bit easier to be distracted from one's woes, and the tired smile he'd given her ended up brightening a tad when he saw how urgently she wanted his attention. Well, maybe it wouldn't matter so much, how little he impressed his mother or other wolves his own age- he meant enough to his younger siblings that...Maybe that could make up for him failing elsewhere.

He was still overheated and tired, but he couldn't say no to Alyx. She was a Princess and therefore, could basically order him around and get him to do whatever she wanted...And given how important this task seemed, his interest was actually piqued. "Of course, your highness," He chuckled softly, standing up albeit a bit slowly. He stretched, doing anything to try and squeeze a bit more effort out of his tired muscles, and began to follow her like an obedient mutt.

Alyx hastened into the trees, disappearing lithely between two narrow trunks. The gap was a little small for Bronco, but he'd be able to get around another way. By the time he made it into the tangle, his sister was hopping from paw to paw under an overhanging branch.

And on that branch, woven expertly between three wide branches, was a giant tangle of sticks and dead grass.

This wasn't any ordinary bird's nest. This nest belonged to the king of birds, the elusive bald eagle. Of course, Alyx didn't know what sort of bird built this thing, but she knew that by bird standards, it was a castle. Princesses had to have their castles. Can you help me get that down? she asked her brother, turning huge, pleading auburn eyes on him.

He followed his sister into the thicket, but came to an abrupt halt when he managed to shove his head through a gap in the branches that then blocked him from the shoulders down. He pulled backwards, to get himself un-stuck, and had to parry his way around the brush so that he didn't get stuck again. He lifted his head to pick out the wolverine-patterned youth, who was looking up and bouncing on her tip-toes like a playful ballerina.

He looked up and his lips were naturally pulled into a sort of frown. The nest was fairly large- not like anything he'd ever seen a robin or a sparrow nest in, so he had his misgivings about disturbing such a thing, anyway. But Alyx begged and pleaded for him to reach up and try to dislodge the thing, which would be a challenge on a few different fronts. First of all, he wasn't entirely certain that the nest was completely abandoned, or that it was right to be taking other animals' nests. But...This was his little sister. And this was their home...And anything that wanted to live within their borders had to respect the fact that the pack was the boss; and his sister was the Princess of the bosses.

He heaved a small sigh, and approached the tree, planting his front feet against the trunk and gazing up toward the nest. There was no way he could reach it from the ground, and he didn't see any way of being able to climb the tree when he circled it. "I dunno, Princess, I'm not sure I can reach that," He answered truthfully.

Alyx watched the play of Bronco's thoughts across his face, but she found them difficult to decipher. She assumed he was devising a plan to get the nest down. If anyone was smart and brave enough to do it, it was him! So when he admitted that he wasn't sure he could get to it, her face fell.

But Bronco! she whined, you're so strong and smart! If you can't do it... Then no one can. Maybe he was just worried about it for some reason? Pleaaaaase, Bronco?

And how, pray tell, was he supposed to say no to that face? He heaved a sigh and reached over to preen the fur on the top of Alyx's head affectionately, before he pulled back, and did a couple stretches. He was still fairly certain that there was no way he could get the eagle's nest down, but he at least had to try, if nothing else then to satisfy his sister's plea, and prove that this was a task beyond his capabilities. "Well," He said, as he shuffled his shoulders to loosen them up, "Then I'll have to give it a try, hmm?" He said.

He circled the base of the tree, and saw that there really wasn't a way for him to climb up. So he stood up on his hind legs, and braced his front paws against the trunk, and started to shove his weight against it. It didn't do much good immediately- but eventually, after several pushes, he was able to get some of the upper branches to sway. Now- if he could only keep this up, maybe eventually the nest would fall?

Some minor powerplay to wrap this up!

Alyx was both impressed and pleased that her brother acquiesced to her pleas. Sure, it was pretty unlikely Bronco would be able to get the nest down for her, but his willingness to play along went a long way. She beamed at him with an excited stamp of both forepaws, then shuffled over to give him space.

His idea had merit, but wolves were only wolves. Bronco succeeded in shaking a few twigs loose, but eagle nests were constructed of stronger stuff than that. Despite the swaying branches that made Alyx’s tail flag in anticipation, the nest stayed put. Awwwww, she complained when he eventually conceded defeat, visibly deflating.

Just as quick as that, she’d dreamed up another scheme, and with another, Hey, Bronco, maybe y’can help me with somethin’ else! she was off at a rapid clip, leading him to her next grand request.
