Birth
@Finín
& @Nuala & the others dont have accounts yet. backdated to sunday; short post to get birth out of the way, ill post a better thread for yall soon <3
She's in her den when she first notices the telltale signs, the subtle indications that it's time for the moment she's been waiting her whole life for. Time to welcome her children into the world. She retreats to the back of the den, keeping quiet and to herself over the next few hours. Slowly, one by one, her pups enter the world - a fairly smooth and painless labor, to her surprise. She tucks them all close to her belly when the last one is delivered and cleaned, and calls for @Mal.

I think kids can post whenever, yeah?

He'd just about gotten used to this routine of his -- three current kids and their parents to feed, borders to tend, bring something to Aibreann to check in. It wasn't like Mal had a drought in things to do. As dumb as some of his choices might be, in the end he just wanted everyone to be happy, so food, herbs, whatever Aibreann had asked for over the recent weeks, Mal had brought them to her and would hang out and be his normal charming (or irritating) self if she wanted company.

When the call came, he pretty much dropped his patrol and ran on over to her den. They were here? Well, that had to be why! At least with Aibreann he wasn't too worried about something going completely awry -- she had her medic background, and didn't seem nearly as likely to get all weird. Still, his nose was twitching as he came upon the den, searching for anything wrong. He ducked into the entry, trying to see into the darkness, I'm-- change of mind, it was silly to say he was here, that was obvious, they're here? He was a little breathless, but happy, and not entirely ready to crash her space more than he already had.

whoever was given the reins in designing the birth aspect of life had really ought to be fired. surely mother nature being the little magpie that she was with her world of gossamer dust and vibrant allure could not find bliss with the graceless aspect in which her subjects were thrown to the world. although 'thrown' was in fact a much more pleasent way of wording the pitiful squirming that marked his grand entrance.

things had began to suck in the womb that day, his world of velveteen darkness suddenly becoming quite the rude host. not only were there these ever growing lumps encroaching on his space, today the darkness shifted and tugged so that he was coerced to writhe from his precious pocket and forced into the deplorable position of his entire face being squashed into the pulsating figure of one of his vexatious room mates. unlucky for @Nuala , an irritated wriggle from finín put him in the advantageous position as stubby lugs plunged hard into her, propelling him along the path nature strung him along. a sudden need to be the first grub to reach the earth filling him with instinctual intensity as he was squeezed and shoved until alas- free!

and if this entire maladroit situation was not horrid enough he was now subject to this terrible cold. so shameful that the first look anyone would get of the little dragon was the image of nothing above a writhing slug as he mewled his neglible distaste.
his injustices were only forgiven and forgotten when he was introduced to a teat and the wonderful substance it delivered and so latching on greedily, the beastie drowned his sorrows in hot piping milk.

What would become a fierce sibling rivalry, at least on her end, would unknowingly start out in the womb when her brother's form jostled her around and left her without the feeling of something there with her. She was alone,  and her normally peaceful surroundings were suddenly quite the opposite. Something forcefully pushed her from her spot not matter how hard she tried to put the breaks on; she simply had no choice in the matter, and that just wasn't okay. If she could have voiced her anger and discomfort from inside her sac, she certainly would have. And it wasn't for lack of trying either, her mouth opened and closed over and over so that when she was finally deposited on to the hard ground and freed from her warm cocoon, fretful screaming was the first thing that she would offer this new and uncomfortable world.

The screaming continued with every single breath, just so she could let absolutely everyone within hearing distance know exactly how she felt about things. Her mother's licks did not stop her complaining, nor did it stop when she was pulled against her mother's warm stomach. She only threw her head from side to side and screamed. It wasnt until, during her thrashing, she felt something hit her face. Whatever it was left a swipe of milk across her pudgy nose and the smell made her freeze, her cries dying down to a low whimper. She was finally silent when she latched onto this fleshy bringer of the rich substance. Her tantrum had really tired her out, so it didn't take long for her to pass out, still attached and with a full belly. Her caretakers would soon learn never to wake her either, unless they wanted to listen to her scream her discomfort some more.

When he entered the world, it wasn't with a ton of fanfare. He was just a drab little boy who would have been happy to sleep a while longer. But no, here he was. Squeaking, wriggling, but no more than any ordinary pup would. The world was simple here in the darkness, instinct brought him to feed, and then once he was plenty stuffed, he was quite keen to zonk out unless disturbed.

Did being reasonably well-behaved make him odd? Or was it just the calm before the storm?

Sullivan landed earth-side with a frail shriek. The den was noticeably colder than his previous shelter, and the ground was much harder; he squirmed uncomfortably, mewling as he requested assistance. Sullivan's help was prompt, and soon he was placed at Aibreann's side. Warmth and the scent of milk greeted Sullivan—both of which quieted any of his prior concerns. All was well, and there was no reason to cry.

Sullivan wriggled towards the smell of milk, and once he located a nipple, he began to eat. He ate until he had his fill, and when he unlatched, Sullivan curled around himself and fell asleep. Sullivan lightly snored and was unaware of the noise he made—the most ruckus he'd make for the time being.

And off to the archives with it... :P

He settled himself in the tunnel for now. Even if she might not let him close for this moment, he was still here, happy to enjoy the moment, tail wagging behind him. So, names for them? Even if they'd discussed it before, it wasn't like wolves could find out the puppies' genders before they arrived like a human could. So, a nice quiet conversation about names, a bit further checking to make sure all was well.

Once he was sure things were okay, Mal headed out to let Aibreann and his youngest children rest. He'd be back later to check in, and that time would bring food for her. It was a good day.
