All Welcome
set for evening of 10/24

By the time the trio reached the borders of the Firebirds' claim, all Fig could do was consider how much better his trip home from the Frosthawks would've been had Bronco been their third wheel instead of Penn. That Blackthorn had been an asshole--always mocking, always scoffing and always boasting about one fool thing or another. Bronco was such a refreshing change with his kind laughter and his honest goodness. It was a shame the time Fenn had wasted on Penn, and the revelation made him feel better about potentially losing her to the Glen when he knew it meant she spent her time with Bronco instead.

When they came to the borders, Fig paused to send up a howl for @Phox and @Niamh to let them know he'd returned with Bronco and @Fennec in tow. He of course wanted @Towhee to be aware as well, but she's deaf so we'll have to figure out some other way for her to find out. After the call, he turned to his companions with a wry smile. "Now, I can't go letting just anyone past our borders," Fig commented, giving them both a playfully scrutinizing gaze, "How do I know you guys will behave yourselves in my territory?"

Fennec was both glad and apprehensive to be going home.  She showed neither, of course, but the apprehension was mostly around what Eljay's reaction would be to her having bounced without a single word.  Fig had been low on the guilt, but she imagined Eljay could be the sort to have it in spades.

At least the trip was fine.  It didn't occur to Fennec tangibly that it was quieter with Bronco and Fig than it had been with Penn and Fig, but she did notice that it seemed to be less tense than her other trips recently.  She gave herself the credit and chalked it up to her growing 'worldliness'.

I made no such promise, Fennec retorted.  So that can't be a condition.  She took a few playful, bouncing steps across the border, then turned to face Fig's approximate direction with a grin.  Maybe getting into a play-spar wasn't the best move considering their parents were probably on their way here?  But "bad move" had never really stopped her before.
Fenn is blind, and as she's older, will take all of her character insight from tone.  If you are ever uncomfortable with an assumption she makes, please let me know!

Fennec's last-second (to him) decision to hang out with Moonspear had been surprising, but Phox had learned some time ago not to dwell on his kids' ambitions. Well, at least not as they got older. Fennec was more than an adult now, as was Fig, and he trusted her judgement... not to mention the wolves at Moonspear. She would be safe, and she'd get to stretch her legs without going too far from home. It was a happy medium to him, and much different from what Alyx had requested. Not that Fennec had requested, so much as stated (that's how I assume it's gonna play out, anyway).

Let's pretend Fig told Phox that he was going to go hang out with his sister, too, since that seems like a Fig thing to do.

Anyway, they were home! For how long, Phox wasn't sure, but that didn't matter. He was always glad to see his kids under any circumstances.

Sup kids! he bellowed in his best dad voice when he spotted the two of them up ahead.

He didn't want to push his luck- so he did everything he could to not ruin whatever it was that he had going with Fennec the whole trip to the Copse, lest she see how much of a twitterpated galoot he really was, and change her mind about moving to the Glen with him. He also didn't want to make it too obvious to Figment, either- so he was perhaps a bit more quiet than usual during their voyage. It wasn't easy, but he managed to keep his goofiness in check, and use just enough sarcasm to keep Fennec from deciding that she didn't want to put up with him anymore.

He shrugged off Figment's comment with a roll of his eyes, and a casual stretch. "Yeah, I'm just gonna go do what I want, you got problems with it, take 'em up with your Mom," He teased with a flippant chuckle. He watched Fennec prance like an excited racehorse, and looked past her to see the dark form of Phox approaching them, calling out and he assumed, referring to all three of them. It didn't make Bronco too uncomfortable to have been considered one of the collective group of kids, though he was pretty far removed from ever thinking of calling Phox his father. "Hey, Phox," He called out, giving the Regent a respectful dip of his head and a friendly smile. "Are the bugs around?" He asked, referring to his three younger siblings, whom he was eager to see every time he took a short visit to the Copse.

As was expected, both Fenn and Bronco brushed his authority off. He rolled his eyes good-naturedly, his tail wagging. He looked from Fenn to Bronco as they each replied to him, deciding that it was his step brother's comment he had something to say to. "How about I take it up with your mom instead?" Fig teased, knowing Niamh was likelier to take issue with her son's disrespect than Towhee would be.

Phox approached shortly thereafter, causing Fig to turn. "Hey, Dad," he greeted, stepping forward to brushing his shoulder against his father's, "A couple of strays followed me home again." He turned and smiled back at his friends, much more pleased to be referring to Bronco this time rather than Penn.

Hey, dad.  Yeah, I wanted to come back and check in.  Since I left in such a hurry was the unsaid ending to that statement.  We'll be heading back pretty quick though.  Best to get that out of the way right initially.  She wasn't sure yet how long she'd be staying, but she knew without a doubt her stay wasn't over yet.

Bronco could go see their siblings, but Fennec didn't have too much interest right now.  She needed to go find Eljay first.  Anyone else she bumped into would be either a burden or a bonus depending on who it was and how much they wanted to talk; she wasn't sure she wanted to spill everything about everything right now.

Bronco and Fig bantered back and forth with (very mild) "your mom" jokes, and Phox gave them a solid dad laugh in return. I'm sure the bugs aren't too far off, go on an' find 'em if you must. I'm sure they'll be happy to see ya. Fennec was next to speak, her silent apology noted.

Oh yeah? he asked, Is there a boy there you've taken a liking to? Phox winked at Figment for good measure, as if he was somehow in on this joke. Having Fennec live (temporarily or permanently) with Moonspear was perfectly fine with him. Loads better than her wandering around aimlessly with no idea of when she'd be back or where she could be found. He didn't like that for any of his kids, and he thought of Nellie for a moment, trying to remember where she'd gone off to. Probably back to the Frosthawks, if he had to guess.

ahuhuhuh Bronco out

Knowing that they'd only be staying for maybe a night or so, he was keen to find his younger siblings and spend some time with them. He also wanted to make absolutely sure he didn't do anything stupid enough to make Fennec change her mind and decide to stay- and decided it was for the best that he left her to do what she needed to do, and then find her in the morning so that he could escort her back. He nudged Phox's shoulder, grateful that he seemed to understand how much he wanted to see the younger grew, so he began to bound off, making a few strides off past Phox.

He did, however, catch what his step-father-in-law had to say to Fennec, though, and he skidded to a halt for a moment, casting an almost horrified glance from Phox to Fennec, back to Phox, and then back to Fennec. Part of him wanted to hear her answer- simply because he dreaded the thought of her saying yes, and meaning...Well, someone she'd met there. And if she said no, well then. That meant....It meant whatever it meant. But he wasn't going to stick around for that torture- so he turned and continued to bound off- whatever answer she gave, he wasn't ready to hear it.

Fenn was quick to inform their father that she and Bronco wouldn't be staying. Fig quirked a brow at this, but Phox took it in stride, making a quip about a boy. He huffed a laugh at this, then paused. Was there a boy? He couldn't help but glance over his shoulder at Bronco, noting the odd look on his step brother's face just before he departed. He snapped his attention back to Fenn. Had he missed something?

Looks were being exchanged and Fennec was blissfully unaware.  She also missed Bronco's hurried departure, too busy listening to the conversation and formulating a response to her dad's question (which was terrible.  C'mon dad?)

You know I'm too fast for any of them to keep up, she said, a play on words because honestly she was slow as shit.  Slower than shit if it was on an incline.  But I wouldn't tell you either way.

There was a rare bit of affection as she responded with this little dig.  She loved her dad, bad jokes and all.  Truth was, she couldn't even bring herself to think about stuff like that.  So talking about it? Good luck.  It was like there was a fence driven in, hard and fast, around that subject.  Romance was for stupid girls, not ones like she and her mom, women with more important goals.  She intended to make something of herself, and something about the whole idea of that felt off right now.

Phox cackled at Fennec’s reply, not reading anything into Bronco toddling off and Fig’s look. That’s my girl, he replied. He was fairly certain that whatever boy Fennec took a liking to was going to have a rough going of it. Between Towma, Phox, Figment, Bronco, and Penn, he’d have a lot of living up to expectations on his plate.

How’s the medic training going over there? Learning anything new and exciting? Not that he’d be able to make much sense of it, but he was always open to listening to whatever it was she might’ve learned. Not wanting to leave out Fig, he added, And what did you get into?

Fig smiled at Fennec’s retort, but he was still suspicious. Her words struck him as a deflection, trying to make them look away from the question. She did have feelings for someone. She just didn’t want to talk about it.

Interesting.

He stowed the information away for later consideration. He settled in to listen to Phox’s and Fennec’s conversation, glancing at his father when he posed a question to him. Fig blinked at him, not understanding the phrasing. Get into? Like he’d gotten into trouble? Or involved in something? ”Um... huh?” he asked, unable to help himself.

Fennec, who couldn't see the redirection to include Figment, meanwhile assumed both questions were directed at her.

All kinds of trouble, she answered, but she didn't bother elaborating there.  Kukutux knows a lot, and some of it is pretty different from Eljay.  Fennec still wasn't sure where she stood with the woman, however.  She had a weird air to her, kinda subservient? That made her uncomfortable.  They hadn't spent enough time yet anyway to cover more than the basics.  I've saved at least a dozen lives, maybe more.  I hear they are even thinking of naming the Glen after me, but I'll decline, of course.  Modesty.  Only truth, this girl.

I think we can prob fade here!

Both kids seemed to be confused by his question, so Phox let it slide. He could only do so much, and Fennec was already talking about Kukutux (what a name!) and how her methods were different from Eljay's. Phox thought this was curious, but he didn't deign to know the ins and outs of healing, so he didn't feel like he could ask any further questions. When she talked about saving dozens of lives and naming the glen after her, Phox couldn't help but snort.

Oh-so-modest of you, he remarked. Want to come grab a bite while Bronco is busy with the bugs? I've finally gotten our stores back up to a reasonable level since the flood. It had taken some serious work, but Phox was proud of his progress. Besides, he had plenty of help from his pack mates (or so I'm assuming).

More jokes from Fenn and an appreciative laugh from both Fig and their father. He turned to Phox, intrigued, when he brought up the prospect of grabbing some lunch. He hadn't eaten much while he'd been away visiting Moonspear and the Glen, so he was pleased with this prospect of eating. He stood and followed his family as they set off, bumping his shoulder lightly against Fenn as he said to the regent, "Fenny can tell you all about how she convinced most of the pack that she's a witch while we eat."

That would certainly lead to a fun way for the three of them to pass the time together.
