Pack Activity
This takes place before the RE puppers join... I think!
Some PP to assume everyone's here so we don't drag it on forever. Vague about a few things, but they can be in round two+ if additional ones are needed. Current plan, round 1 = noting Firefly Glen and scouts for Asmoses, 2 = warning about Saints again and stuff, 3 if necessary = ???

@Simmik @Vallkyrie @Valencia @Haoniyao @Jackalope @Ico

Moms & kids are excused unless they wanna show up. :P Mal would have told them behind the scenes what was roughly goin' on here. @Miriam @Aibreann @Caerus @Liliana  PPC also excused, so for visibility @Cam.

Mal had howled to call the pack together at what Mal considered the Grand Gallery -- where the tallest trees were in the forest, their larger canopies forcing more room between the trees after shading out all the smaller plants, it was great for this sort of thing. It didn't take long for them to start appearing. Nods and greetings all around, and once it seemed like everyone was here and settled, he looked to Simmik for a second, then to the pack that had gathered. It would be nice if one of these times the reason to spread news to the pack was happy, but this apparently wasn't their time yet. Soon, maybe? He could hope.

So, been a while since we called one of these but it's definitely necessary with the way things have been lately. If you've done any wandering outside the pack you'll notice apparently Firefly Glen now is inhabited. Seems like it's Moonspear finally deciding they actually want to properly own the place. They haven't sent anyone all official-like over here yet, so I can't say I've had a chance to talk to whoever's running that pack, but I've definitely met more than a couple Moonspear wolves that aren't exactly happy, friendly sorts, and they definitely will not be happy if you go walking on in uninvited even if they did the same to us in the past. Until we know if that group is their friendly section or more of the same, watch your step. I'll let you all know as we get more info. Mal was obviously not fond of this fact, but ugh. It wasn't like he was gonna count on Moonspear to ever be polite about stuff, they were basically just bullies.

Secondly, Asmoses is obviously still missing. And I know we've all had a tough time here, but we do need to send out more scouts to see if we can find him. Of those of you who know him, would you be willing to go search? Hua said she'd keep an eye out up near her, so that section of the coast is probably covered. Kaistleoki also was informed he was missing. I don't know about the other packs in the mountains there -- but I don't think he would have made it beyond the range, I would have run into a sign of him when I was there. I think the southeast needs to be swept, and make sure we didn't miss anyone out to the west. A sigh, Obviously scouting doesn't come without risks, but he's just a boy, and I think we all want him home. Open the floor to volunteers?

Although moments ago he'd stood tall in rare pride at having caught a water vole by himself, now Ico's already-petite form dipped closer to the ground. For he'd heard his Alpha's call, and it was in the boy's nature to be submissive. He popped the dead vole on a riverside rock, and set a fleet pace in the direction of the howl and the assembling scents. He recognised Mal of course, alert and leaderly as he addressed his pack, as well as Simmik, Vallkyrie and Yao. The small white wolf inclined his bowed head to the Leadership, then cast his eyes around shyly and found a place to sit near a clump of ferns, nervous and attentive. This was his first pack meeting at Neverwinter.

What followed was a wave of information that Ico tried quickly to commit to memory. Firefly Glen... Moonspear... Asmoses... Hua... Kaistleoki... he hadn't heard of most of these things, but could identify which were important to the Neverwinter wolves. Especially this case of Asmoses, a missing youngster. Mal appealed to those who knew him, and Ico did not know him, so he didn't speak out at first, but he was keen to help... if... he heard himself say in his timid voice; if I could have a description of Asmoses, I can look for him and ask around, if that would... be of help...

They really hadn't had a pack meeting in a while, Lenny mused as she headed up to where Mal had called them. And it was for good reason, too - Asmoses had been gone for a very long time, and they did need to send wolves out for him.

Now, Lenny wasn't much of a scout, but... well, she could try.

"I can go too," she offered, angling her ears toward the spotted man. "East or west, and ask around a little."

@Bronco- I know our thread is ongoing, but Kyr would ask who's leading the Glen. If Bronco wouldnt tell I'll edit this!

Vallkyrie wouldnt take long to arrive to the meeting and it was lucky enough she was even still within the forest to have heard it. At the outskirts of the territory it made it certain she was not the first to arrive. Her placement amongst the group came near the open side of her sister, @Valencia. After what seemed like the majority was here, Mal began...

I met Bronco, one of Moonspear's own in the Glen recently. Kyr spoke up, loud enough for the group to hear, of course. Some here knew Bronco well enough, having visited a time or two and his assistance with searching for Miriam and Mal's son. It is an official extension of Moonspear. A wolf named Osiris leads it. I know having a pack settling in the lands right at our border is unsettling, but in my experience I've not been permitted hunting in the Glen prior, either. I stay to the northern plains and west towards the Weald. She informed this, as well as telling of her general locations for hunting. Surely anyone else would have been mess with agression had they tried to hunt south same as she. As said, it might have been unsettling but equally wasnt anything she wasnt already used to.

Then upon the next subject, Mal mentioned Asmoses, to which Vallkyrie frowned. Alas, where had Miriam had gone to leave her pups unattended already knowing Mal was absent? Of course, it was a sour subject which Kyr had already blew up on her sister about. Vallkyrie had to be reasonable. Mistakes were made. Not everything could be avoided. Everyone was responsible...

Still, Kyr had checked the south. Bronco had said he would check with his family, the Firehawks, to the west. Still, nothing had become of it. So now what? Continue on, keep pushing, keep looking, before winter came...

Ico, the little snowflake, said he could search, then her sister. Vallkyrie frowned harder. She had been looking, but it wasnt obviously enough to find him. We should take turns, go in pairs and then another when the former returns. Last thing we need is someone else going missing. Especially with The Saints... She murmured, looking between Ico and Lenny until then falling on Mal. She didnt wish to sound uncaring, but with so many directions to go, enemies outside of their lands, and winter's fast approach, she didnt want the whole pack split apart into pieces and loose what she did still have. Risking the entire pack for one would not make anything better, especially when her own sister was involved.

oh, i.. yana stopped herself before going any further. would she be in trouble if any of them knew she’d been gone? liliana worried about what her father might think, based on his opinion of moonspear and assumptions about the glen.

her eyes brightened at the mention of her brother, and to ico she said, he looks like me. he’s my twin. it didn’t matter that they hadn’t officially met yet; to yana, anyone willing to help was someone worth trusting.

she wanted to ask if any of them might be willing to take her with them, but didn’t want to be disappointed, and so remained quiet.

She had dived directly into patrols the moment she was able to collect herself enough to be functional. Like any time before, she used pack duties to avoid whatever it was she didn't want to think too much about. But when Mal called the pack for the meeting they had discussed not that long ago, she knew she couldn't ignore it to keep doing her own thing. She had hesitated for only a brief moment because she had completely forgotten about the meeting.

She took her place next to Mal around the same time everyone else started showing up and was quiet but politely acknowledged anyone who greeted her with a dip of her head. Mal didn't let things linger for long, thankfully, and quickly got to the point of the meeting. He spoke of Moonspear claiming the glen, which ruffled her feathers quite a bit, mostly because they hadn't sent anyone over to inform them that they would have new neighbors. She wasn't surprised by the slight, but she was irritated by it.

Mal brought up Asmoses' disappearance next, asking if any of the pack would be willing to search for him. She had already informed Kaistleoki, but she didn't mind making another trip, especially when Vallkyrie suggested they go in pairs—it was safer that way. Valencia had offered to help as well, which didn't surprise Simmik. I can search again too, she offered. I traveled to Kaistleoki when he first went missing, but I can join up with someone and search other places as well. She wanted him home. The pack needed a break from all the misfortune, at least for a little while—they all deserved that much. With Liliana giving those who needed it a visual reference, they should have no trouble identifying him if they found him.

He sat beside Lenny, his brow furrowed with concern as he listened to Mal. I can as well, he said. He felt sick inside, knowing that one of their own, one of Miriam's had been gone for so long. He wasn't much of a tracker or a diplomat, but that would never stop him from trying.

He perked his ears up. He knew Bronco. Perhaps their new neighbors would not be belligerent? Though it was rude of them to move in so close, and unannounced.

He didn't know who The Saints were. He knew the word and from what he understood it was a good thing? Sacred mortals? Though from Vallkyrie's tone it seemed quite the opposite. He waited for them to continue, stewing in his thoughts and worries. He pressed his head to Lenny's shoulder, frustrated with the situation.

Jackalope was about as enthusiastic about pack meetings as most employees are about attending office meetings. And like any other, hoping to go unnoticed and simply tolerate the entire endeavour without having to put in an ounce of effort. Not that he'd ever truly excelled at being in a pack, but he'd been through this sort of thing enough before to know that he ought to look somewhat interested without showing too much enthusiasm.

So he allowed his eyes to glass over a bit while Mal told them about the wolves who'd moved from Moonspear to the Glen- he knew this. After all, he'd been one of the wolves to discover the new pack, and report it, though he hadn't seen fit to make a big deal out of it. His main takeaway from his experience at the Glen's new borders was that the new alpha was too young, but came into his role through some sort of designation that smacked of nepotism. But, his girlfriend was hot- and that was enough to make Jackalope want to go back for round two.

When the missing child was mentioned, he paid a bit more attention, though he lost some concentration when Mal left the floor open, prompting them with a heavy silence that they should offer their assistance in looking for the boy. One by one, they spoke up, offering to help. 'That should be enough,' Jackalope thought- after all, they couldn't all go out looking, they'd need some wolves to stay in the Forest and guard the borders, or whatever else it was that he tended to avoid doing.

But when one of the pretty twins (were they twins? He couldn't exactly tell them apart or remember which one was which) suggested they go in pairs, his ragged ears perked. He straightened his hunched posture ever so slightly and cleared his throat. Trying not to appear too keen or invested, he spoke. “I'll offer my services as an escort,” He answered, with a slight twist to his lips that made his whiskers stick out a bit. Naturally, he had no interest in going out to look for a child on his own- but if he had oneof the several pretty, available young ladies at his side...He could be convinced.
and i'm wondering who could be writing this song?

he'd kept to himself, mostly. well. that wasn't all the way true. he had helped out where he could, especially with the multitudes of children running around the place. anything mal needed, cam was happy to provide. but other than that. . .he kept to himself. he liked it best that way.

he was a little lackadaisacal coming to the meeting, but he heard 'moonspear' and knew immediately what it was about. cam had noticed the increased presence, the encroachment of the pack upon their borders. beyond the usual concerns of wolves—this was personal.

the nightmares had returned. the fits of panic, too. he saw her, and her shadow; felt himself impaled upon that mountain once more. in his worst moments, he woke in puddles of his own urine, gasping for air.

no, moonspear that close would not do. but what else was there to do?

oh, yes, and the child missing. a few volunteered their services to find him. cam thought he was better utilized here, in the familiar confines of neverwinter forest, looking after the pups that had stayed put. for his part, he remained silent, though with a worried expression in his emerald eyes that cut through the crowd, seeking mal's gaze.

he couldn't stay here in the current circumstances. . .but he would not leave, either.

Quick post to keep things moving! Open for questions/other IC matters now too, no post order, I'll do one last post after this to answer/wrap.

He saw Cam's glance and offered him a slight nod -- look, Mal wasn't happy with Moonspear encroaching either. It had always been clear Moonspear was pretty used to doing whatever the hell they wanted, and he would love if the world finally brought a hammer down on them to prove that they couldn't shove everyone else around, but he knew the pack wasn't exactly in a place to do that. For now they just needed to find out some details. Hopefully it wasn't as bad as it seemed. Then again, there was always the chance future threads were gonna go completely sideways and force stuff, but that's half the fun of RP!

For the search, plenty of volunteers and some suggestions. Mal nodded as they spoke, mentally shuffling people into groups until everyone had their say. Why don't we have Haoniyao and Jackalope check out Kintla along the foothills there, Lenny and Ico can head south from here, and Simmik and Kyr can go see what's up to the east? Probably in that order too, if we want it spaced out.

Assuming that seemed good, he continued, But regardless of whether you are traveling near or far, if you run into a wolf who says they're from the Saints of the Dying Light, consider them dangerous and find an excuse to get out of there as soon as you're able. They live in the eastern mountains but have been seen closer recently. Don't trust them, just get out and home as soon as you're able. They've definitely done enough to earn their reputation as it is and I don't want any of you to be another tally for them. A brief pause, Overall, be safe.

The floor was also open to questions.

“Why don't Haoniyao and Jackalope-”

Out of all the wolves present, and capable of going for a scouting mission, he got paired not with one of the pretty young women he'd taken a shining to- oh no. The wolf he got paired with wasn't even pretty- he was too handsome to have been considered pretty. And the main issue, of course, was that he'd been paired with another male. The only reason he'd volunteered whatsoever was so that he could act as an escort- and basically spend the entire trip with someone that was easy on the eyes so he could be distracted from whatever boring task they were supposed to be doing by flirting with them. Perhaps Mal had realized as much- and had chosen to pair him with Haoniyao for that very reason.

He drew in a deep, reluctant breath, and listened as Mal doled out the other pairings, though he was distracted, for a moment, by the way Haoniyao reached out to touch one of the Vals, with a sort of affection that hinted they had some sort of a relationship. Odd, then, that Mal hadn't chosen to pair the two of them up- and discouraging, considering that one of the pretty, ice-eyed sisters was potentially off the market. At least, then, he might have something to talk with Haoniyao about as they travelled.

They were warned to beware of the Saints, and by this point, Jackalope had forgotten what it was they were even supposed to be looking for. The child, he reminded himself- one that looked like the pale daughter Miriam had. So when Mal concluded his advice, Jackalope glanced over at Haoniyao, and his gaze lingered there for a moment, just long enough so that he could hopefully catch his packmate's gaze, and give him a nod, and a wink, for good measure.

She was pleased with her own assignment; she had always liked Vallkyrie, and she knew she would be an easy traveling companion. They were to search the land past Moonspear's mountain, which she had never been to before. She was slightly nervous about being so far away, but at least she wouldn't be alone. She smiled at the other woman briefly before focusing back on Mal.

She nodded to Mal, showing her acceptance of his plan and her agreement to be safe. She had no intention of doing anything stupid that might get her packmate hurt.

She would be ready set out whenever it was their turn.

It seemed nearly everyone was willing to lend a paw when it came to looking for the lost pup, which pleased Kyr though she couldnt help but worry for the safety of those going out. It seemed they were paired well enough, a more scouting type to a guardian. Herself was paired with Simmik, to which the huntress tossed a toothy grin towards (only to realized Simmik was doing just the same). They would be the last pair to head out, leaving time for others before them to come back safely and in hopes of either the pup or new information of the packs around them.

Sounds like a plan then. Hao and Jackie (lol), make sure to report to Mal or Simmik when you return so that we can send out the next group quickly, then same goes for you too. Gesturing towards Ico and side glancing to her sister at her side. We should all be home before winter hits full force. No pack wolf should have to suffer the consequences of being out during a snow storm, cold and hungry. In fact, it was only just last year she had endured such.

So the kid looked like Liliana. That was good to know. Lenny was a bit bummed that she wouldn't be getting to go with Yao or Kyr, but she was glad to go all the same. Maybe even run into one of the Saints members along the way - it could be fun to get to actually fight, for once.

"Sounds good, boss," she told Mal, tail swishing behind her, and pressed her side against Haoniyao's again. If all went well, like Kyr said, they'd all be back before winter hit, and preferably with a missing pup in tow. "Be safe?" she implored of the man beside her, voice hushed.

Jackalope. He had not heard of the man before. He turned, sweeping his gaze around the gathered wolves until he met the man's eyes. He smiled, glad to be introduced to another one of his packmates, though the circumstances were less than ideal. Scouting was not his forte, least of all with the thought of someone in his pack being in danger, or threats lurking around them.

He'd have to speak with Jackalope, and see what he thought. But first—

I will, he pressed back against her. You be safe too,

Okay. Just everyone be careful outside the territory. And if anyone sees anything out there that seems suspicious, let me know. I want you all to be safe. If anything strange happens, one of us will howl to let you all know. And with that things seemed to be settled. Be safe. Everyone. And with that they were dismissed.
