When the older woman ran off (well older than him, Melaine if pretty young my lil man) he chased! Why wouldn't he! For what reason? Dunno, she was running and so he had to chase her, it was a natural instinct to do so - and what if he did get the runs? Would he just let her run away and not deal with his leaky bum when it was her damn root that caused it in the first place? Heck no!

Well during his run there was no signs of an upset stomach, not that he was paying much attention to notice. All he knew is that it was possible according to himself and that she would be to blame! And that was as far as his logic went. Plus, he was having fun. If Lithium followed him too, she would have just as much fun with this lady as he was, he was certain of it! She wasn't just some boring stick in the mud adult that they have met.

Every so often he lost sight of her, but continue the chase he did until one of them got tired!

As it turned out, after a few miles Lane's little creek emptied into a massive lake, stretching out in either direction as far as the eye could see. Lane's run slowed to a trot, and finally she halted as she reached the southern shore of the lake. Her progress forward was effectively blocked.

Her muscles trembled from the exertion of her run, but at least she was warm and she was dry now. No thanks to that sopping wet kid who had rolled all over her. It had frustrated Lane to feel so helpless-- she had wanted to stop him but couldn't, wanted to escape, fight back, do something-- but couldn't. What if her attacker hadn't been just a kid goofing off? What if he had been a grown man and really wanted to.. you know.. hurt her?

Lane scratched in the sand absentmindedly. Thoughtful. Perhaps it was time to pay a visit to a few packs and see if anyone was recruiting. Some added protection wouldn't be such a terrible thing, at least until she learned how to defend herself.

Lane turned, suddenly alert to the sounds of another's approach. Her gaze fell on the familiar little furry tornado, and she shook her head in disbelief. The kid had really followed her all this way? Did he not have anywhere he belonged?

"Hit a dead end," she informed him, dropping the hunk of chervil roots she was holding in order to speak. "..Or else you never would have caught up."  Because that's what this chase had been about, right? To prove who was faster? Or had she actually managed to make a friend?

He lost her. Only briefly. Only for a little wee moment until her trail was caught again and the boy was off like lightning to track her down. She had a damn head start and had the advantage of being the one who was chased and knew where she was going - while he was stuck behind just trying to follow and keep up. Tracking her down was half the fun if he was being honest, a little game of catch up with a dash of follow the leader, and a splash of hide and seek.

Says you. He said like any sassy boy talking back to an adult. You couldn't get away so I win!. They didn't come up with any rules of their game and so they both seemed to be on two completely separate ideas of what was going on; and Valium, as usual, believed him to be right. But now... he wasn't sure what that meant. Soooooooo.... and it was awkward.

What do I get? he looked at her with wide silver and red eyes, just greedily and waiting for some kind of gift. Maybe something delicious that wasn't that gross ass root she had him chew on earlier. Even now when he was not eagerly looking at Melaine, he was glaring at the nauseating root she dropped.

"You get your ass kicked." Lane rolled her eyes, but made no move to actually follow through on her words. What was he expecting exactly? Some kind of prize? All Lane had was a ball of chervil roots. She looked down at the herb bundle at her feet, knowing better than to even attempt to offer the rootball as a prize. Even as a joke.

"I dunno," Lane continued, sweeping her gaze out over the lake. "A goose? You want a goose?" There was a pair of geese-- or ducks maybe?-- drifting near the shore a fair distance away, just within eyesight. It would be a shame to have to break up a bonded pair. Geese mate for life, Lane was pretty sure. But hey, girl's gotta eat. Her eyes darted back to the boy, figuring he had probably worked up an appetite as well.

Yeah? And how'd that work out for you last time? If he had hands to put on his hips he definitely would, along with a little sassy hip shake, but it was best to just watch him wiggle a bit as he spoke. It had a similar energy to it. Honestly, he didn't know what he wanted from her, but something had to be given to the victor - which was him, obviously.

A goose? He perked up, absolutely every bit of him shot right up. From ears to tail he was on alert and excited. Never has he had a goose before. He tried once, and they were ferocious, he immediately noped out when the giant ass bird hissed at him - but he was bigger now than back then. Maybe it was different now, maybe it would be scared of himYeah I want a goose! ...How do we get it? They flew... he remembered. So how do they go about it?

Do we run really fast?

Bad. It had worked out pretty bad last time, although to be fair she had been jumped unexpectedly. She would probably fare a little better if she was the one doing the tackling... probably. She would tell herself that, at least.

The kid gave a cheeky little wiggle, which probably would have provoked a more aggressive wolf. Lane just scoffed and rolled her eyes again.

He wanted to goose. Okay. And he also wanted to know how to get the goose. Lane had absolutely no idea. But the kid was looking at her like she was some kind of authority on the matter, which was understandable. He was used to adults telling him how to hunt. So was Lane. Actually being the adult who was supposed to know what to do was a new role for Lane.

"Uh.." Lane cleared her throat. "We.. uh.." The boy threw out a suggestion, and Lane shook her head. "No, um, we.. we sneak," she said, trying to sound authoritative. "Can you be sneaky?" Lane eyed the boy skeptically. As far as she had seen, he was the flesh-and-blood version of a mini tornado.

She stuttered her reply to him, and Valium didn't really think much of it. He just took it as if she was planning a brilliant hunting strategy to nab one of those juicy fat birds. His mouth watered just looking at it. It looked so plump and delicious. Not that he knew what it tasted like, it could be all feathers for all he knew - but he was clearly ready to try and see for himself if the fowl was something he liked. And that thought was distracting...

Sneaky? He caught only a part of her words near the end, and in his own way to try and display it, the boy crouched down. Ass in the air with his tail waving mindlessly like a banner while he himself felt like he was an utter ninja. Ears back, eyes squinted lightly, his chin almost touching the ground. They won't see me coming. Was the last thing he said before marching off, crawling awkwardly against the ground with his bum still slightly risen in the air.

He was on his way around the geese and where they were, seeing if he could sneak closer to them.

Going to leave this one open-ended and archive. Let me know if Hannibal is reactivated and you would like to finish the hunt!

Watching the boy "sneak" off with his ass waving in the air did little to reassure Lane. They would most certainly see him coming. Lane would have to accomodate for that.

She slid towards the pair of geese slowly and steadily, body hovering just a hair above the ground. Every now and then she popped her head up to check the position of the geese.

When she was still a ways off, she noticed their behavior change. Previously, they had been drifting in lazy circles, but now they were both still and oriented toward the shoreline. One of the hunters had been detected. Lane was betting it wasn't her.

She slipped into the water. The irony was not lost on her that she had spent a good chunck of of the morning annoyed that she was wet and trying to get warm and dry, and now she was going to be soaked completely through. A warm belly full of goose would improve the situation dramatically though, if she could make that happen.

As cold as the lake was, Lane didn't move her body at all save an occasional paddle to keep her nose and eyes above the water. There was a slight current flowing along the shoreline-- likely due to the emptying river-- and Lane allowed it to tug her gently toward the birds.  With any luck, the geese would be distracted by the "sneaky" kid on land, and they wouldn't see the much quieter threat gently floating toward them.
