All Welcome
Gaining experience and knowledge by the day, Holland supposed he could do with a worse time in the Teekons. Leaving behind the Glen, he traveled further inward. Coming across the Lair was pure happenstance. He figured he'd find a good spot eventually and kept a soft budding hope for it. Though the trek was long, he enjoyed the exercise. He always did, even if he was more pacifist than soldier now.

The Sunbeam Lair - name not known to him - was an array of ecosystems. Moss clung to the wall in waves. There were plants that survived the frost here. He felt almost giddy. Almost. His face remained solemn as he wandered into the cavern, approaching one wall and mentally preparing himself to scratch at it. He needed moss. It was an essential tool for any healer. He began to run his paws along the wall, scraping off the foliage in long chunks.

Too absorbed in his thoughts he failed to notice another's approach from behind.

the caves of the sunspire mountains, the place that he now called home, were extensive. even within the half a year he had not completely explored all of them, though now that winter was here he felt much more inclined to do so. but he wasn't alone, of course. there were many caves that he had avoided thanks to the thick scent of hibernating animals permeating around the entrances, but just as many that were open, and even full of life. the sunbeam lair was one that he continued to frequent, though habitually. he couldn't say that he was disappointed that he wasn't alone this time he entered the lair, though he didn't expect something like this. yooo, he called to the wolf, squinting. whatchaaa.... he smacked his lips, to stop himself from drawling on. whatcha doin?

Cougar.

It filled the air with apphrension along with its stink. Holland tensed up, the scars from his last encounter with its kind still appeared fresh. They were old now though, but still visible. And the trauma he encountered as he fought for his life against that large feline... Some wounds did not heal. The medic turned, a light growl on his lips. He wasn't even aware cougars spoke the same language as wolves.

The one he had fought was feral, primitive. The way this one smacked its lips made him slightly uneasy. Was he to break his oath of pacifism so soon? The fur along his shoulders bristled, his scarred side now clear when he whipped around. If this cougar was intelligent enough they could liken those wounds to their own claws. "Collecting" he utters lowly, narrowing his one good eye "moss."

Did he doubt the beast could try to kill him? No.

100th post!

he saw the scars, but couldn't place them, didn't yet connect them with his own claws, though that should have been obvious from their shape. huh? wh...why? he didn't know anything about herbalism, or the practical use of plants. all the medicine he ever encountered were in the form of pills and pastes, synthesized to accentuate the natural healing properties. you...vegan? or sum'n? he hadn't ever heard of a vegan wolf before. was that even healthy?

Was this cat dense? Holland's lip curled, trying to control his anger and defensive mechanism. The feline hadn't attack him - yet. He questioned the medic instead. He wanted to know why he was collecting moss? Did cougars have no healers of their own? Was that just a wolf thing, he wondered?

No use wondering. "For my cache" he attempted patience now, closing his eyes and breathing slowly. Calming himself. Meditation was a core process of control. Alas he could not do the whole routine when another was talking. "I am a healer..." he went on after a brief silence.

He dare not turn his back to the feline, but he was stuck now. Conversing brought up old wounds. He had never, ever spoken to a cougar. They hunted prey as well as wolves at times. There was no reason to speak to this one. Was it fear he would think subconsciously. Had the trauma of that attack...

No. He had to do better than that. "Moss is good for dressing wounds" he went on quietly "it soaks up blood, and soaks water up. Can be carried to a patient for them to drink, if they are too weak to get to a water source..."
