He hadn't had a good spar in a while.
Not since he'd romped with Kynareth anyway.
There were new members of the pack.
Plenty of them.

He knew them by name, and by fleeting face, but he'd not taken the time to know them yet.
To test them.
He will now.
Derg tipped his head and called for Zsuzsa. He wondered how they'd fair in a spar.

The Acolyte was tending to miscellaneous business when a summon caught her ears. She started in a lope to the source of the call, coming upon the presence of The Overseer. Zsuzsa vaguely heard of his name and rank in passing with Kynareth when he escorted her to the Saints but never officially met him until now.
 
Upon seeing him, her steel gaze couldn’t stray away observing the details of his abhorrent scarring: lesions deeply adorning the right side of his visage and his right ear practically ruined to shreds. Zsuzsa concluded he certainly saw and experienced a thing or two in his time.
 
”You called.” Zsuzsa said as a statement rather than a question. Her head and ears dipped low in a gesture more so submissively to The Overseer than in a manner of greeting. She was still testing the waters on how lower tiered members addressed the higher ones. Kynareth made it seem so lax but perhaps that was just him.

She came.
He didn't expect her to be so quick, but she was probably eager for her summons. He wouldn't be surprised if the pack was bored.

She stood taller than him. Most wolves did.
She had an angular face, she seemed sharp-witted. Her coat held a silver flame when touched by sunlight - one that matched her eyes.
She stared at his face.
He stared back.

"I did," he smiled softly.
"Care to spar? I haven't had the chance for a while. We could get to know each other," his tail waved softly, wondering if she'd accept.

There was a subtle nod to come from Zsuzsa at the prospect of sparring. She knew the Saints was a pack that tested physical ability and combat skills on the regular in order to keep them fit and sharp. It briefly reminded her of her time in the prior pack before the Saints, the Etruscans. They were tireless in their training during their war. It was good to know even in the downtime of the Saints, the pack worked hard keeping up with their skills.
 
”Sure.” Zsuzsa responded, an amicable smile forming on her maw. The smile was short-lived as suddenly her complexion switched to stony, steel eyes hardening as she looked at Derg like he was her next meal. The Mackenzie launched at The Overseer, attempting to strike his left shoulder. She wasn’t one to waste time getting started.

She seemed very agreeable.
He liked her already. She'd be a strong member of the Saints if they kept her trained well.
Which they will.

He returned her smile, his tail waving softly as he watched her movements.
The falling of her expression into steeled calculation, and she drove for his shoulder.
She connected with him, teeth digging into flesh.
The Saint's had no room for pleasantries.

Derg twisted with teeth seeking to embed themselves into her scruff.
Spar were friendly, but they were far from being games.

Her teeth landed their mark and didn’t sink in too terribly as it was a friendly spar but was firm enough to grab hold. She could feel him attempting to move in to grasp at her scruff by the way his head hovered over hers, to which on an autopilot whim, she let go of his shoulder to evade his grab.
 
As quickly as she moved away, she was back in again, but this time attempted to grab a little lower than a shoulder. Zsuzsa would attempt to connect her teeth with a foreleg a little way up from his paw. If she was successful in this, perhaps she could successfully stumble him forward.

She sharply pulled away from his teeth, evading his snare.
His teeth lacked shut on empty air, but he let his body follow through the movement, angling his teeth up to see Zsu diving for a foreleg.

She went low, but he let his fangs sweep towards her muzzle to catch her in time to prevent her attack, gripping her in a gentle hold. Keeping his balance, but taking a step back to prepare for her to try and free herself.

Derg attempted a variation of the go high when they go low technique. Catching her muzzle lightly in success, Zsuzsa huffed a snort from her nose as her move was gently blocked. Yanking her muzzle away from the entrapment of his jaws, she would adjust her strategy by attempting to cling on to the scruff behind his neck by her own jaws.
 
This would take some maneuvering to do on her end, as since she was considerably lighter than him and less muscular, her precision to be quick about the next move was important. She launched without skipping a beat to target his scruff, having to raise on her hind legs to throw her forepaws on his back to get good leverage to target his scruff.
