for @Brook <3 since these two haven't had a 1:1 thread in a while

things were moving along quite well on the plateau. they'd gotten off to a slow start, sure, but more souls had joined them with time. it took patience—and aditya was more than old enough to know the value of patience. hell, it had taken more than patience to get him this far in life.

so, how was his daughter handling all these changes? he sought her out this afternoon, trotting across the open expanse of the plateau with his eyes peeled. he knew she was a shy girl and stuck to the shadows more often than not.

still, he let out a soft, undulating call for her alone, knowing that brook would heed it. shy as she might be, aditya knew she was fond of him, trusted only him. . .and while that warmed his heart, he worried for her when it came his time to leave this world. what would she do without him?

he would have to send her back to her aunt easy when the end seemed near.

You get #50!

She had met the others, at least briefly, now. She still didn't feel the same comfort around them as she did her father, and Brook was certain that she never would. How could she feel the same way around them? They were not the ones who had saved her from the brink of death, even if Aditya did not know he had done so. If, on any level, she had considered his departure from this world, Brook refused to admit it or even entertain the thought in the forefront of her mind. As far as she was concerned, things would be like this forever.

He called, and as expected, she answered. Her ears were slicked back, and she licked his chin in greeting. Instead of questioning why she might have been called, she simply allowed herself to be happy in his presence. Calm, at ease, and generally less skittish than she had ever been on her own.

congrats!!

she came hastily enough, and his eyes fluttered shut at her touch, his own muzzle coming down to touch the crown of her head as if in benediction. lakshmi, he murmured, smiling. he drew back after a quiet, serene moment with his daughter, giving her a look over.

brook seemed in good condition, healthy and fed. happy enough—though it was sometimes hard to tell with how quiet and reserved she was.

he knew that to truly find out, he must ask. . .and even then, it wasn't a given that she would speak honestly. how are you settling in? are you happy here? his voice was warm but serious; he wanted to know the truth. whatever he needed to do to put his daughter at ease, to make this feel like her home, he would do it.

for her, aditya would move mountains, and smile through the pain.
