All Welcome
The cavern reminded her of fish bones left to rot. It was narrow for a while and then expanded as if it had inhaled air, with stalagmites and stalactites jutting every which way. The sunlight that shafted its way through the corridors helped to give the rock a warmth and banish any concern the wolf might have felt while investigating. It would have been a different place entirely in the dark of night.
Birdsong lured her deeper, further. When she emerged from the cavern she passed through a curtain of willow switches and that was when the area went quiet. There was the diminishing sound of wings beating as the area's namesake birds fled the scene and then, nothing.
Not even the wind.
The wolf lingered there for a few minutes, head raised and face alert as if listening to something, before turning sharply in a new direction. Her purposeful stride carried her away from the cave mouth along the ridge, heading east.
