Yes and no; yes, the brute is aware that the terms of endearment can make most uncomfortable. Sadly, he doesn’t care enough to stop himself from saying them. Actually, he uses them more often in hopes of annoying those he uses them on. Sometimes, he gets lucky and they like it, but not often. Still, unless told directly, he wouldn’t cease with the cringey, uncomfortable nicknames.

Even as she replies back, mentioning the meat being too rich he chuckles at her. “You need to expand your range of food. Makes you healthier.” He rasps around a small mouthful of food.

He carries on, but on a different subject. “You should take some. Whenever you decide to part ways. Bite off a leg or something.” The man says, always so casual despite one another not really knowing each other.

now feeling obligated, satsu swallows the last of the morsel she has taken for herself and seeks the carcass for more. she is mindful of the goliath shape that is the daimyo.
as she works to strip a suitable portion away, gone are the practiced movements, the confidences discovered during their hunt together;
this is not work meant for her. cutting too deep too fast causes the coagulating blood to seep out, to stain. raw pink flesh turned carmine.
startled by the sight of it satsu hurries and only makes further mess of things. as she comes away with her share she feels the cooling blood upon her cheeks and throat. she is oddly calm despite her earlier struggle, and breathes deeply, steadying her mind.

He chews his food softly, not in any rush to go anywhere. After all, he has a pretty woman keeping him company. Where else must he be?

So he watches Satsu heed his offer, stripping a piece of meat from the deer. She’s clumsy though. Horribly so. Or maybe a better word would be messy? She seems unpracticed when she rips the meat off, though upon further look into her eyes, he sees something else. He can’t quite place it, he can’t read minds after all. He has a feeling that it’s something odd though.

He tries a casual approach. “Darling, darling,” he interjects softly with a laugh. “so messy. Do it slower.” He says it in an educational type of way. Soft, but not overly so — informative.

The Grandmaster steps closer to her, not urging her to stay if she doesn’t feel like it. He’d show her. He starts at the left hip and moves up the ribs. Carefully cutting away the meet with his teeth and tearing what needs to be torn. The end result is neater than her own. Though, he’s unaware of her internal turmoil making her sloppy, he assumes she just doesn’t know how.

He drops the piece back onto the deer after taking a small bite from it. “See? Calm and precise.” He adds behind a mouthful of food and an easy smirk.

it is surprising that the daimyo would hold such knowledge, she thinks. these details were the realm of the common-folk. they were the ones to hunt for large game and then prepare it, or so it was within the han.

the way of the tiger is strange to satsu. she takes her segment and moves out of his path only to watch as he carves the carcass himself, peeling away meat with the finesse of an artisan.

although her expression remains empty her mind begins to buzz.

gomen. her chin is partially tucked against her throat, feeling familiar shame for a moment; she has made a fool of herself before the lord.

it was never my place to... prepare meals, kyn-dono. as if this needed to be stated! he could see the red that wrapped around her throat.

just as well — this deer could feed many, and kynareth would likely find greater use for it than she, with her sensitivities. she grasps her remaining piece and works to carefully eat as much as she can, leaving only a line of gristle and dredge of skin.

Kyn notices the way she tucks her chin and the almost tense expression on her face. He didn’t mean to embarrass her, or make her feel dumb in any way. Though he feels like he might have.

She murmurs a word he doesn’t know. Dark ears swivel at the sound that falls from her lips as he tries to decipher it, but to no avail. He does continue to listen to what she says though. She’s not used to preparing meals. So she’s privileged; just like him. Or just like he used to be.

As she settles down to eat more, he shakes his head. “No need to feel any type of way, dear. One can always learn.” He hums. Then her earliest word comes to mind. “What does gomen mean?” He can’t help but ask as he tries to parrot the word he heard back to her.

he appears less taken-aback by her statement and more intrigued by other things. he parrots the apology back at her, which she hadn't been entirely cognizant she had used, and the sound of his rough attempt makes her ears twitch.

!—...an apology. satsu explains. yes, she is far from home — she feels the distance keenly now.

a pause, and she rises. with her meal complete she does not know what to do with herself, and as she feels the need to escape, satsu bows blithely; tipping her chin quickly.

thank you for the meal, kyn-dono. and for listening to me, though i am no-one. all she wants now is a bath; something to cleanse the blood from her throat, the awkwardness from everywhere else. her pride is at stake.

Kyn tilts his head in interest when she tells him what it means. He decides not to comment on it any further, just for her sake. He can tell she’s a bit flustered, so he tries not to torture her some more. Even though he’s very known to do things like that with strangers and friends alike, he’d give her mercy today.

He watches her rise, dip her chin, and attempt to excuse herself. He smiles at first, until she mentions herself being a nobody. A comical frown falls over his face then. He bats her softly with a large paw.

“Stop that. You’re someone; you’ll find your place in the world again.” He rises then, preparing to grab the deer and drag it back to his caches. “I hope we meet again, darling.” He purrs with a wink. He can’t help himself, he’s a womanizer at heart.

there is nothing else to say.
she is taken aback by the forwardness of the man; the sneak of a wink which must mean something, but not to her.
satsu's head tilts off-kilter for a beat, then she is moving away from him - fast, though not hurried.
