Joining
Slate had been running for hours. It wasn’t until she got too tired to run any further that she stopped and caught her breath. She hated it, hated every part of joining packs, how they all seemed crazy, batshit insane to put it mildly! She wasn’t sure if was even worth it anymore, she didn’t know if she wanted to join a pack at all. She began walking again and decided she wanted a swim or a drink, maybe both?

However she came across something more interesting. The scent of ocean. She stopped. Sniffed the air again and took it in. Was that really the ocean? Had she been running that far? Apparently. She almost continued her journey, but halted. There was something else in the air here. The scent of border. ”Ah shit.” She almost turned to run off and leave the area, but she really wanted to see the ocean and take a swim.

She sniffed again and found something interesting. A strong scent of females in the area. That was strange. Maybe a good thing? She curled her upper lip into a frown. Did she date take another shot at this? Eh why not give a shot, it might be the death of her, but she was becoming old anyway and was bound to die from starvation when her hunting skills went south. Or live a vegetarian. Whatever came first.

She howled. A careful, short howl to announce her presence at the border. She swung her tail impatiently back and forth until someone came. She was willing to give this another shot, but were they willing to give this bitch a chance? She decided against sitting down, last time she got attacked by a psycho, she wouldn’t let her guard down this time.

So what crazies would come now?

The grief of Merlin’s passing weighed heavy on the seafarer, countered only by the blessing of new life within Sapphique. Usually a carefree and easygoing spirit, Njord found himself more anxious – more on edge – than usual. He had lost someone dear to him and now… had new children to protect.

When the short howl sounded on the wind, Njord quickly took off towards the borders to greet whoever called. He emerged from the summer foliage to find a mature woman, dark and stony in both color and countenance, waiting at the edge of their territory.

“Ahoy,” Njord called as he closed the distance between them. “This ‘ere’s Sapphique. M’name’s Njord… what business do ya have?” he asked in a neutral tone.

The woman did not answer, and departed as curtly as she had called. Njord would linger at the borders until the vagrant could no longer be detected, before resuming his patrol.
