All Welcome

Momotzli woke before the sun, in that hour before the clouds had adopted their soft hues of candy floss and the golden rays of the sun breathed life into the summer paradise of the Strath. The light was muted and grey, filling the den that had been her sanctuary for the past month of life with the cornflower blue of dawn and softening the shadows like charcoal smudges upon a canvas. When the wolfdog’s drowsiness fled and she became aware that she was in fact, awake, the puppy’s blonde head popped up suddenly — swinging to the right to drink in the sight of her parents curled around each other with a mismatched gaze of precious metals, her childhood hues almost faded. In time, the last of the murky blue color would be replaced by small flecks of brilliant azul.

The girl’s brow wrinkled slightly, uncertain. She’d never woken up before her guardians did — the pale duo her neonatal brain had once known as Life-Giver and Protector. Their hues and scents had been almost interchangeable at first, the only difference their newborn daughter had known between the two being that the Giver had the milk scent. Their features had taken shape as her eyes opened and vision became pronounced, the Giver becoming Mantli and the Protector taking on the form of her Tatli.

Mantli
was tucked up against her papa’s chest, the way Momo sometimes slept herself, but she’d rolled over in the night — a single feathered paw outstretched towards the chimera as if she had subconsciously reached for her daughter in their slumber.  The golden ball of fluffy down pattered over to her mother and father on paws that she was still learning to control, already losing her childhood chub and becoming gangly — bound for the same willowish and gamine build her dam possessed. She poked at @Vein’s muzzle insistently, trying to prod him into rising and regurgitating some breakfast for her — not yet aware that it didn’t quite work that way and her father wouldn’t have any meat recently stored in his belly for her to eat.  When that failed, she tried nosing at her mother’s face but Aerin must’ve been tuckered out from being a new parent because she too only murmured softly in her sleep before rolling back towards her husband.

Momotzli flopped down on her rump, a whisper of a whine working its way up her throat — as if the instinct to cry until they woke up and tended to her needs was still predominant. But as she had grown, she was losing some of her babyish aspects and taking on the typical traits of toddlerhood. Like any small child, she was curious. Instead of howling until her parents woke, she ended up becoming lost in the whimsy of her own thoughts for a moment before her gilded orbs flickered over to the den’s threshold and lingered there.

It was with slow, overly cautious steps that the child toed her way over to the entrance — peering out as the sun began to filter through the trees, lighting the  leaves with a hue of electric jade wherever the light struck the canopy. She cast a hesitant glance behind her at the still-dozing medics, catching a glimpse of crimson as she turned back to the scene outside. Just barely able to make out the field of ruby from the doorway of her parents’ dwelling, Momo found that her curiosity outweighed her fear. Without another thought, the little girl raced from the whelping den towards the patch of red hidden amongst the trees.

She stopped at the boundaries of the meadow, wide eyes of silver and gold turned upwards as she examined a flower for the first time. Too short to reach, the pup sat back on her haunches and stood up like a gopher might, straining towards the petals with her forepaws outstretched.

The H-meno’ob slept deeply his body lethargic due to the poppy tea he had snuck into the caves to make and drink before sleep. Aerin might not approve of the tea’s he had been making himself with the hot springs water, he hoped she hadn’t noticed his new nightly practice, Since he always made it and drank it as he made her tea to help with anxiety and sleeplessness; his tea however was far less benign.

Though some time had passed since he had drank the pain relieving tea, the bump against his muzzle was barely registered it took him more then a few moments to shift, the warmth of his wife against his body was so inviting that he allowed himself to return to slumber.

A few more moments passed and the overlarge white wolf whom had gained even more weight in his lethargy of late, lifted his head and yawned deeply before looking around bleary eyed. He recognized that something was off and yet he couldn’t quiet put a paw on it.

Carefully he got up, sliding away from his wife so that he did not wake her, only then did he realize what was off. He daughter… she was no where to be seen. His heart rate picked up and he quickly exited the den placing his muzzle close to the ground to follow her scent. He was not a good tracker, give him a plant to scent and he could tell what that plant was and probably what it could do when used, However give him a trail to follow and he’d be lost sooner then the maker of the scent trail. He followed the trail for a few minutes and sighed having trouble scenting, Giving up on tracking he lifted his head and looked around and smiled fondly he had found her perched so cutely.

He very quietly walked up to his sweet daughter from behind and then planted a large lick upon the back of her head hoping to give her a cute mohawk between her ears. He then lay down not wasting energy standing wincing slightly at his imagined pain in his ribs even with his daughter nearby he was thinking about his next dose of pain relief.

The chimera was so distracted by her fascination with the crimson flower that she didn't even notice Tahtli come up behind her, jumping nearly out of her pale skin and golden fur when he surprised her by rasping his tongue along the back of her head -- thoroughly soaking her thin down and spiking the wet strands up stiffly atop her head. She whipped around, soft fur spiking as her paws stood far apart in the most unimpressive attempt at a threatening display anyone had ever seen. It lasted for all of about two seconds until the toddler realized it was her father and then she melted.

Blissfully unaware of his addled line of thought, the Medic's daughter rushed to greet him -- climbing and stomping carelessly all over his paws and forelegs with her tiny paws, though it couldn't possibly hurt with how tiny she was. She reared back on her hindlegs, so quickly that she nearly toppled over into the grass and had to scrabble her paws against Tahtli's chest for balance. Once she'd steadied herself, Momotzli immediately dove towards her father's face. The golden wolfdog rasped wet kisses all over his features, bum and wispy little tail wriggling fiercely the entire time, before she began nosing insistently at Vein's muzzle again.

Food! Food! her angry grunts seemed to cry.

Vein shifted into a laying position groaning as his elbow’s hit the ground and his allowed his rear to drop ungracefully with a thump. His baritone rumbled deep in his chest with laughter as his daughter begged, but he did not offer her food. He rarely feed her anything but very recently chewed food, It might be seen as him shirking his familial duties but he had his reasons even if he would never admit them aloud. He wasn’t sure if the food he had to offer had been contaminated with the poppy seeds or the poppy tea.

He lifted his head high and ignored her plea until she settled, then he lowered his muzzle and nuzzled her cheek attempting to roll her over on her back and give her a tongue bath. “Sweet Momotzli” He rumbled “My Momo” He huffed softly into his daughters puppy fluff, He didn’t reprimand her for running off without a parent he just enjoyed the moment.

He looked up to the sunrise and spoke aloud without looking at his pup "Do you want to hear about the sun god?" His tail swept across the ground happily

Instead of feeding her, Tahtli met her demanding gestures with laughter and attempted to roll her over for a bath. Momotzli was having none of this, starving as she felt in that moment despite the fact that she was fed regularly and diligently by Mantli -- though this was taking a toll on the already thin halfling. She squirmed and kicked angrily, letting out a babyish squeal -- even attempting to snap at her father's nose when he tried to bathe her in her hungry tantrum.

By the time Vein had posed his question to the outraged tot, her tiny flaxen chest was heaving with the weight of an anger she couldn't understand. Her rose-marked lips trembled in a pout, tears pooling in her eyes -- on the verge of spilling over with her pitiful wails, which were sure to bring her mother running, until he asked if she wanted to hear about the sun god.

It distracted her, long enough that her curiosity got the better of her and her tears dried up. Sniffling, the golden pup gave a heavy nod and plodded over to her father, slumping down in a tiny pile of dejected halcyon fluff. Despite how her stomach rumbled painfully and Tahtli's neglect still smarted, she was desperate for any kind of attention from her sire.
