After some debate with Richie, Dave led the way to the pack they'd smelled nearby. He liked his friend. His company was nice. But damn, he missed being in a pack. Being able to wander in any direction and find some poor soul to subject to whatever whim struck him at the time. He valued Richie too much to terrorize him, which was what he was really craving. So, to the bear cult they went! Not that either of them knew they were walking into a cult.
He stopped at the border, and peered past it with tail waving in excitement. Having been raised in a rather unconventional setting, Dave lacked any knowledge of the concept of really, truly howling like a wolf should. So when he sent up his version of a call, it was a garbled, drawn out DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE...

It took some convincing. Lots of convincing. Lots of “Daves”. But he eventually caved. One pack would have the fortune of bringing perfect, handsome, talented Richie into the mix and Dave, and this place was the lucky winner!

Richie sat at the border, licked a paw and began to slick back his hair like a cat. Gotta look his best if he was gonna be the spokesman for the pair. Then his grooming was interrupted by his sidekick’s screeching.

DAVE. Richie shot up and kicked at one of his legs. You tryin’ to scare everyone within a fifty mile radius?? Let me do the talkin’.

The shrieking sound from the border made the fur on Aventus' neck stand up. Not only was someone rude enough to demand attention from the bear wolves on their own turf, but they did it in such a hideously disruptive manner that the hare he was stalking took off, tanking his mood immediately.

With a growl that ended in a muttered swear, the Bruin-jaw retraced his steps to the silver boulder where the valley's mouth tapered off into the flower meadow beyond. There, he found two promising looking wolves that Ursus could certainly make use of, but he glossed right over their health and notable physiques and zeroed in on the source of the ridiculous call: the thick-set brown one with the ruby eyes. The other was less notable if only because he was possibly normal and hadn't cost Aventus a hare.

What? he demanded, standing tall and shoving his ears forward while tugging his lips down in an unimpressed glower.

Arielle had been nearby, a bundle of plants held between her teeth, when the strange sound came from the border. She wasn't sure what to think about it, but she was concerned enough to drop her gathered herbs in a safe place and head in the direction of the sound.

Aves was already there, his one word question dripping with the anger she saw in his face. She quietly trotted the rest of the distance, stopping near Aves but careful to hang back just a little.

She watched the two strangers, one of which she presumed had released the strange call. She said nothing, though; she was waiting for them to answer the question, curious herself as to why they were here.

The two knuckleheaded wolves seemed to think better of their choice. With another raucous call of his own name, the imbecile left first, followed by the other with something like an apology. Aventus didn't hear the apology or care for the manner in which they conducted themselves, and saw them hastening away with a snap of his jaws that nearly closed on the end of Dave's tail.

Snorting imperiously, the Bruin-jaw turned to face Arielle. Halfwits, he said to her with a shake of his head. Ursus could have made a meal of the foolish wolves, but Aventus imagined they tasted about as dull as their brains. No sense risking whatever disease must have rotted holes in theirs.
