All Welcome
ramesses did not dwell overmuch upon the strange woman who had gone. pharaoh was assured that she, like charles, would eventually succumb to the red tower in the plains.
he had come across the field of snow with @Gucci. at last the whiteness began to thin, then to melt into the warmer red sands. the mesa was monolithic before them. and on the grounds pharaoh spotted mazoi at patrol. fellahin passed by ramesses and their odd guest. he watched their faces.
the steps to the open air-throne were massive in comparison to the dog. ramesses, however, was not a kind person. he bounded them and called for tamar. the red-gold servant appeared at the top of the stairs and he bid her to summon @Satsu at once.
he turned his lapis gaze back on gucci, wondering how their guest would fare with the elevation.

It was hard keeping up with the white giant. Gucci's little feet were unused to such exercise, and now and then he would make short pauses to breathe and rest.

Soon, despite the toy breed's slowness, they were upon the parched earth which surrounded the red mountain.

Gucci watched in awe as many dogs, much akin to the one that walked beside him, meandered about. He noted many were smaller than his benefactor, with large ears and narrow muzzles he admired. Some would watch him, and Gucci would smile, nod and wag his tail in return. He knew he'd stand out in such company, but did not mind the attention.

This truly seemed to be a kennel... but oddly enough - and his confusion at this grew until he was openly looking around - humans seemed absent from it.

What sort of place had he ended up in?

The steps were a challenge, and Ramesses offered no help. That was fine. Perhaps its simply slipped his mind that the unusual guest would need personalized accommodations.

Gucci arrived to the top panting, but once up he was wowed by the view.

"Y'all's home... Ah ain't ever seen such a pretty thing." The toy breed said once he caught his breath. "But ah gotta ask, where'd the humans go to?"

so sorry for the wait!!

the queen had been left to her own devices all morning. as the afternoon crept on, she thought to visit the wellspring, perhaps to find ramesses there; instead there was no-one, and so satsu took some time to have a dip by her lonesome.

she did not linger long within the cold confines of the spring. what would have been refreshing in the warmer seasons was far from it now, as the water feeding the spring from the snaking river had partially frozen. she removed herself quickly and sought help in drying from tamar, except.. oddly, the woman was not present.

satsu shook the water from her short coat, silently fuming that the maiden had abandoned her to the cold in this way. as she sought to find tamar within the corridors of the mesa, she caught her eye and opened her mouth to say something; but tamar shifted enough to one side and satsu saw her husband.

ramesses, along with a flat-faced little rat thing.

what is that? satsu pointedly stared down at it, confounded. she did not know if she should feel horror or pity for the creature; curiosity or worry over ramesses too, as he had brought it to their palace.

time isnt real <333

"humans?" ramesses laughed. he did not know what those might be. "there are no humans here. only the wolf, the coyote, and the gods." Amun seemed to smile with His own amusement then, looking down after the tiny misshapen thing.
pleased that his charge had climbed the forbidding steps, ramesses swept a keen and desirous eye over satsu. that she seemed less than impressed with his intended gift did not pose an obstacle to ramesses. "this is georgia honeys veni vidi gucci, though he has instructed me to call him only gucci." he had remembered this, for it had been a loquacious title almost rivaling his own, and pharaoh enjoyed such.
he smiled down with an odd expression toward the guest.
satsu smelled of the wellspring and indignation.
"i had offered him a place in your court." cunning syllables dropped. ramesses watched the queen to see if her veneer would slip again.

Gucci was stunned.

"No humans...?" He looked away from the landscape and at the stray (for what else could he be, despite all his finery and charm?) standing beside him "But then who-" Feeds y'all? Grooms y'all? Bathes y'a? Walks y'all? Pets y'all?

His question did not get to be voiced, interrupted by the entry of another wholly queenly creature.

This one moved with a natural grace on strong legs. She had a coat so grey it almost had a blue iridescence to it. When she looked at him, Gucci saw her eyes of deepest ocean blue, and features and lines of the face that gave him a pleasing sense of familiarity.

When she spoke, with what he read as both shock and disgust, he was himself a bit surprised.

Alright, if they were strays, then it made sense for them to be unfamiliar with the kinds of breeds that don't usually survive on the streets or out in the wilds. He chose not to be offended by this.

When Ramesses introduced him, Gucci dipped his head and lightly swayed his tail, his dog tag tinkling. He thought not to say anything, understanding that his acceptance into the hospitality of this group hinged on whether the blue beauty - the supposed "queen" of this prick-eared lot - would take to him or not, but still he just had to speak.

"Ahm charmed by your mere presence, your majesty." He said in his drawl, his posture still politely submissive, playing along with the courtly theme. "Av seen many dogs bred for beauty, but none compare to the hue o' your fur or the blue o' your eyes."

this thing was going to serve her, somehow?
as what, breakfast?

oh, and it could speak! it spoke in a garbled way, not like the lilting of ramesses or the light, precise speech of satsu. as it spoke it called her a dog and she did not know what that was, except it brought heat to her cheeks.

bred for—excuse me! satsu did not know what to make of all this. what to make of him, this gucci creature.
she took comfort in the idea that he was so small and meek by comparison to the wolves of akashingo, even the soft-hearted tamar was strong enough to dispatch him should the need arise.

what is it you think this - gucci, can do for me? she asked this of ramesses, recoiling a bit from the sight of the mutant child he had brought.

ramesses saw that satsu did not like his gift.
"i thought he could be of entertainment to you and your maids," pharaoh said coolly, rebuffed. he glanced at gucci; the sight of the small animal softened and amused him. "but if not, my queen, if there is no place for him, then i will take him among the fellahin."
the idea was in fact so amusing that ramesses laughed, a rich, cold sound that smoothed his brow and restored his former affection. "wherever he ends up, gucci is our guest. he should be treated. give him a rank, my sweet," he urged, knowing her cunning with names.
he glanced between the two of them, fully enthralled.

although satsu saw this creature as some kind of mutant baby, or meal, she knew that the coyotes would be more inclined to toy with it than anything.
they were beasts; even the most level-headed of the fellahin was more likely to eat first, ask questions later. no, satsu could not rightfully place this guest among them - although ramesses appeared amused by the idea.
a neb, then. perhaps crowfeather could use some company while he mends. that would keep this thing away from the queen, but also safe from the lesser creatures of the mesa.
forgive me, crowfeather. she thought with a look to her husband, holding back exasperation.
he can be found among the alcoves. my maiden tamar will show you, at which point upon hearing her name, the queen's loyal servant drifted near.
satsu watched them both, and nodded once to dismiss.

He pretended this was the ring, and he was hoisted up onto a bench to be observed, inspected and graded by the judges. Be poised, be neutral. This mantra echoed through his mind as he saw his attempt to be accepted into the Queen's good graces falter, plummet.

Even as she spoke of him as a something - and even as Ramesses took his side and called for hospitality - the chihuahua kept his posture straight, his face a mask of feigned mild interest, almost curiosity at what was happening around him. He didn't once let it show that he was terribly worried about his prospects of sleeping in a warm bed that night and embarrassed that his compliment to the blue-hued bitch (used in a strictly literal manner) somehow managed to offend.

And there were also the words they both were slipping into their speech, unknown to him. "Fellahin"? "Neb"? Were those titles, or some other form of classification? Still, when the royal named him a "neb", the male bowed his head and graciously accepted it.

Whoever Crowfeather was, the toy breed hoped he'd be willing to accept to company of one as shamefully socially inept as he.

A graceful golden beauty - was every dog in this kennel so lovely? - came up to escort him. Before she could do so, however, Gucci took a step forward, dipped his head and lowered his ears and tail.

"Ah thank you greatly, your majesty. You are kind beyond all praise. Ah swear y'all won't regret accepting me as guest."

He turned around with a swish of his feathered tail and followed the golden maiden.

and for me! <3

ramesses was pleased by satsu's capitulation. he said nothing more, only doted toward her with an affectionate look. tamar arrived and escorted gucci into the mesa.
his eyes were only briefly desirous as he turned them onto the maidservant. and then his attentions belonged to satsu once more. "walk with me," he invited. "i want to tell you about Bes, the god who made himself ugly so he might protect the young."
he had seen this in their new noble.
pharaoh prepared himself to leave the open-air palace. he wanted to see her in the snow, see how the paleness of it lit her blue eyes.
