All Welcome
The scent ended here.

Every hair stood upon her spine. A shiver ran through her, wholly disconnected from the winter chill that filled the air. And she looked upon the waves, black as the night sky yet moving, and she looked, and—

His scent ended here.

Maegi took a breath, let it out. Took a breath, let out a keen.

So long she'd followed him from a distance; had tried, had tried!

And here the trail ended.

She folded in upon herself, laying upon the damp rocks, engulfed in haze. Pressed her muzzle to her paws and wept, and hoped to dash her brains against the earth;

There was no meaning without him;

There was no meaning

There was

The sea.

Where was he?

Where's my love?

Late Morning, January 2

It was nearing the end of her second day here when a decision was made. She raised bleary, reddened eyes toward the water—so much of it, so vast.

She wondered if the Void was just that: an endless sea, deeper and darker than anyone could imagine.

She'd seen it before;

She saw the resemblance;

And now it rose up before her again, right on her toes.

Maegi rose, slowly, striding toward the edge. She could feel the vibration of crashing waves within the rocks, reverberating up into the pads of her paws. The wind was frigid and the salt stung her face.

She spared a brief thought for all those she'd lost. Running down an endless list that finally ended at one name.

I'll see you soon, she whispered, staring at the gray sky.

Then she stepped off into empty air, and let herself fall.
