All Welcome
milestone: eyes & ears open ( 19 days old ); tags for reference, but feel free to join if you'd like! <3

attuaserk has no concept of time.

his existence in this stage of his life is slumber, eating, gumming on @Malrok's ear, tail or paw ( and likewise, of course ), and testing his unheard vocal chords. though @Sakhmet and @Kigipigak were surely not so lucky in the regards of his frequent testing of the acoustics. to him, it is merely the vibrations of his vocal chords that interest him; unaware that they produce noise that might very well put a banshee to shame.

it was a simple existence, thus far. utterly unremarkable. not so different from the cubs born before him ( nor those to be born after ).

but this particular day — morning?, afternoon? — a cottony sort of awareness comes to the fact that his ears can pick up muffled noises. a sharp caw of a bird outside, a soft peep from his own mouth; to accompany that his eyes have opened of their own accord and equally fuzzy shadows play across his still developing vision. he blinks; confused and then lets out a war cry of surprise — only to startle himself by the hellish noise coming from his own mouth —

a warm puddle of pee settles against his belly and he lets out a small noise: between a huff and a cry because he'd soiled himself.

Sakhmet's world had become something new.

The northern children grew each day, every day was something new it seemed, even if the world remained the same to them. Malrok's eyes had seemed to opened and she can only hope that Attuaserk would not be far behind his brother.

She had been half asleep, dozing while they presumably suckled at her side, when hell seemed to open up in the depths of the den.

A banshee sound from Attuaserk followed by a huffing cry. A cry. Her limbs stiffened and her head bolted upright at the sudden panic that gripped her heart.

Only to find him fine. Except for the lingering scent of urine fresh on him. The hammering of her heart in her ears drowned out any cries he summoned further. Softly she groomed him, regardless of whatever protest might meet it. And in this she realized something.

He too now had baby blue's peering out from the soft of his face.

Attuaserk, She mumbled sleepily against his sides.

Kigipigak had come by very early, carrying a piece of carrion he'd dug out of the ice. Hours later it was where he'd left it - outside the ulaq as he dozed by the door. He could have gone inside to nap with his wife and children but, given his strong opinion about the gender divide, he could not justify it.

For the most part he watched the children. He watched Sakhmet as she slept too, pleased beyond all exposition as he saw the rise and fall of their sides. The children made noises sometimes or moved erratically as they dreamed; and then there came the smell of urine which pulled Kigipigak from his dozing, followed by the voice of Sakhmet.

He looked to her first and huffed a soft sound, letting her know he was there.

In the Great Beyond, Malrok was swimming. Or thinking about swimming. He stood on the edge of a vast sea, letting the lukewarm water tickle his toes, feeling the sand recede beneath him with the tides. He lay down upon his belly and enjoyed lounging in the surf, rolling over, dirtying his fur. . .

A bit of seaweed floated past, tickling his nose. He sneezed.

And sneezed himself into consciousness, where he was indeed awash in warm. . .piss.

His blue eyes popped open, and his muzzle wrinkled tight in distaste. It was only a little bit, but he'd fallen asleep with head next to his brother's rear, and thus the tide had come to settle near his lips.

He edged away from the odor and the noise, blinking sleepily at the stramash Attuaserk had wrought.

he is disruptive chaos in such a tiny little form.

the worst of the tempest is soothed by the soft feeling of sakhmet's tongue against him; cleaning him up from his mess — which had, incidentally, also affected malrok.

attauserk. he can kind of hear his name, though it is just a strange foreign jumble of sounds he does not yet understand.

he lets out a yawn, a small squeak leaving him as he nestles against sakhmet; threatening to pull him back into the bliss of slumber.

He is a fussy one, She teased warmly, voice directed towards the ever near presence of Kigipigak.

She wondered if the mere sight of things had startled him so. What a thought. Her grooming would alternate between the two children.

Their eyes are opened now...I wonder how much longer it will be until they're hunting along with you.

True hunters would be sometime off, but she is almost certain that they will crave freedom when they find it is just beyond the den.

They were still small and round, unrefined little beings that Kigipigak didn't know what to do with. Their eyes were open and soon their ears would be too. Significant benchmarks to their development happening rapidly - and Kigipigak lacked a frame of reference for this stage of life, so all he could do was watch.

Soon they will be old enough for their names. When they are able to move better, we should explore the riverside - or maybe take them to Moonglow, a pause to steal a glance at his wife, with a small smile. I am sure Kukutux would love to meet them.
