All Welcome
With every breath and thunder of her young, soft heart, pain spread like a disease through her side. But Faun had not stopped moving in days, didn’t know how to not look over her shoulder with every single aching breath that burned in her straining lungs, the pain that came with the oozing, bloody wound on her side and the shifting of the broken rib on her swollen right side.

She was past the point of pain, in some respects. In others, she was on the screaming edge of it, wavering between outright collapse and beginning to bawl from it. She was not a girl of strong constitution, she never had been, and back home, the smallest things had made her sob. She had not hardened herself, not yet, but that was not coming from a hidden wellspring of strength. It was pure fear that drove the girl on, pushing her to continue even when her body begged for her to stop. She understood the rabbit now, when it ran from the wolf, when it screamed to warn the others.

She had become it.

Her legs wavered beneath her, and to Faun’s horror when she snapped back into reality from the mindless fugue that she had been in, they finally gave way beneath her. She managed to fall on the side with the rib unbroken, but the pain made her stifle a scream anyway, tucking her legs beneath her as she hid in the spring grasses beside the lake, shaking apart and yet desperate to glue the pieces together so she could keep running.

it was if the sound of the girl's pain had summoned her.  tessa descended swiftly, though the resonant fear emanating from the other caused her to pause before she swept too close.  hey, she said softly, do not fear. she crouched through the grasses and pulled nearer, holding her tenuous breath.  may i help you?
