All Welcome
I'd love @Reyes or @Bridget (or both if drama is what you crave?)

Sorana's living conditions were... Unconventional, to say the least.

Normally, by this age, she would be following her parents around on short trips around the packlands and play-fighting with her siblings. Sorana didn't have any siblings, though, and Teya's den was unique in being situated on an island with lake water all around. She couldn't follow her parents into the water, so she took to exploring the small island by herself whenever they were away.

It didn't take long for Sora to cover every inch of ground available to her, nor to realize there were others beyond the lake that she didn't have ready access to. Jay and Maia must have come from there, because they weren't here otherwise. Feeling stuck, she spent more time with each passing day at the edges of the island where she could see the forest across the water, loosing occasional girlish howls to see who might respond from the other side.

Bridget, meanwhile, hovered awkwardly at the lake's edge. She'd given herself a little time after her and Teya's conversation, but now it was time to see if she and Reyes could talk. Normally something like this would be an absolute breeze for her - but normally, the stakes weren't this high. And normally there wasn't a prior experience like the one they had had. She couldn't readily forget the dislike on his face, last time she had seen him.

She heard Sorana and smiled, wanting to go and say hello... but unwilling right now. You are a trap, little bug. Reyes was clearly protective. She didn't want to start off meeting two the same way as meeting one.

So she sat down instead to wait.

I'll try to prioritize this thread!

After a long night of limited sleep, Reyes had found solace in the early hours of the morning and slept several hours. By the time he was awake and rested Teya wasn't there - and neither was Sorana. Blinking brought to light the pain in his eyes and the pressure in his sinuses; but he rose and shook the dirt from his body, then began to prowl out of the hobbit hole.

That was when he heard Sorana's bright little howls. Reyes winced and that became a yawn, then a squint in to the sun. He turned his head away from the direct light as if he'd had one too many the night before — and saw a figure across the water.

They were just... Sitting there. He blinked a few times and then began to stride towards his daughter, pausing once he was nearer to smile as if nothing was wrong upon their island microcosm.

There was no responding howl this time. Sorana scooped her ears as far forward as they could go, the bases quivering and aching with the strain, but no voice rose over the rippling water. She slumped back, disappointed.

That was when her keen little eyes picked out the shadow on the other shore. From here, Sorana couldn’t make out who it might be. She leaned forward so far that she stumbled a little, catching her toes just at the edge of the water and stretching her nose into the humid breeze.

Soft grass whisking underfoot drew Sora’s attention away from the silhouette across the lake. She beamed a huge smile and curved a quick figure eight around his legs. Daaaa! he squeaked, turning back to the water. Oooo?

Bridget did keep an eye on the pup, at least as well as she could from this distance, just to make sure she didn't put herself in the lake if she happened to catch sight of her. She'd hoped that maybe she'd escape notice if she didn't howl and encourage her, but luckily for her, Reyes didn't take long to appear.

Permission to approach? She called out, letting her tail give a friendly wave behind her. She was determined to have this be a clean start with him, any bad feelings stamped out, and she hoped that he was at least willing to consider the same. She had no sense of the way things had crumbled between the he and his mate and the irony that, of the three of them, she was perhaps the one most committed to seeing their relationship work.

His daughter's attention was affixed to something across the water. When he came to her side she finally turned to look at him, and for Reyes it was as if everything else in the universe fell away. Sorana called out to him but then looked again to the water, and so he looked with more purpose, and saw the tripod making her eventual way towards the shallows.

The way that Bridget asked for the visit should've relaxed him. Instead it only reminded Reyes of how quickly he'd reacted, the fallout with Teya, and his long night of deep thoughts. He wanted to scowl but with Sorana there he knew she couldn't let his true feelings show, lest they corrupt her.

Hmm, he hummed.

What do you think Sorana, should we let the lady visit?

It was Bridget's voice that clued Sorana in. Oh! A big smile broke across her face. It was Brightness!

...Oh. It was Brightness.

Her smile faltered a little and her ears slanted. She craned her head back to communicate a silent question to daddy. Bridget had always been a welcome presence and auntie before, but Sorana remembered how Reyes had reacted. She couldn't put two and two together to see it was Caracal and not Bridget who had sparked that reaction. In fact, she hardly remembered the second wolf had been there at all, but her feelings about Bridget were more complicated and deeply rooted.

Her little brows crumpled. Of course she wanted to see Brightness! Her memories with Brightness were happy ones. Daddy didn't seem to like Brightness much, though, which made Sora think she shouldn't, either, despite the happy memories. Daddy's opinion mattered the most. She fidgeted in place and waited for Reyes to make the decision for her.

if they end up interacting more Bridget can be skipped <3

Bridget's ears were pricked for a response but otherwise she stood relaxed in the shallows of the water. She didn't guess that the odds were high she'd be turned away but this was mostly a show of good faith and an indication of respect. She hoped that he could see that.

Either way, she wouldn't join them without confirmation, so she waited and idly watched in the meantime.

The girl was excited, and a touch distraught, and was toe-tapping while she looked up to Reyes. There was no clear answer to the question but that was alright. It would be up to him to decide if the gimp should visit.

Okay, let's invite her over then. He murmured to Sorana before kissing the top of her head with a swipe of his tongue.

Looking now to where the woman waited, Reyes called out to her: Come on then. This was for his daughter's benefit. If anything went wrong he knew he could handle a soggy tripod anyway.

Captain Sorana of the Tiny Isle will see you now. He went on to jest, watching for his daughter's reaction.

Whatever had occurred between Reyes and Bridget the other day seemed to be a nonissue now, since Reyes agreed that Bridget could come. That was all it took to dispel Sorana's uncertainty. She swung back around to watch the three-legged wolf crossing the water. As with all visitors, the closer Bridget came to land, the harder Sora's hindquarters swayed.

She bounded to the water's edge as Bridget landed, curving her body in the shape of a kidney bean and reaching out for auntie Brightness with an excited and deferential flicker of her tongue. Then she caught sight of Reyes again and lurched in his direction with bright eyes and panting tongue that lapped thrice at his chin. She settled for standing between his forelegs, beaming up at Bridget, and wondered what they would do today.

Reyes was hard to read but he didn't seem disingenuous as he invited her over. Sorana's enthusiasm more than made up for it and as she splashed the final distance, her tail waved to match. Hey, there, Captain. One auntie reporting for duty. She lowered down to greet her properly, then looked at Reyes.

Wanted to say sorry too, for last time. I've known Teya a long time, but I guess it's easy to forget that doesn't count for everything. She'd practiced it and it came out as smoothly, as casually, as she'd hoped. She could swallow her pride down quick if it meant making peace with her best friend's mate.

A part of her also wanted to see what he'd make of it. Bridget had little sense for Reyes' personality and what she'd seen so far completely contradicted. Teya had chosen him - a huge point in his favor. But she had questions about some of the things she'd seen and she wanted, so badly, to put those doubts to rest.

Reyes was careful as he watched the interactions between the woman and his daughter, in case anything untoward were to happen. He didn't anticipate any issues (they both remembered the last time).

Bridget spoke her apology and Reyes tried to shrug it off. He didn't need to be reminded of his temper, or the resulting fallout that his decision had made. He didn't appreciate the way Bridget spoke about his wife and levelled a glance her way.

I know you two are friends. Which didn't trump his status as husband even if he was on the outs with Teya; but Reyes didn't feel inclined to point that out, or make this already awkward visit more tense.

Okay, Captain, he moved on promptly, focusing again on Sorana. What game should we play then?

Sorana wasn’t oblivious to the moment that passed between Reyes and Bridget, but as always, she was eager to turn the attention to happier things. Daddy seemed to agree; he asked what game she wanted to play, dispelling the flicker, and she coiled like a spring.

She still lacked the words to name it, but the game would be obvious enough when she scampered away and dove into the tall grass to hide from the adults. Her tail remained visible, poking out of the weeds, and if that wasn’t enough of a giveaway, then her incessant giggling certainly was.

She was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but even so, she wished he'd surprised her.  Of course he didn't.  Of the two roads he took the emotionally childish one - not only did he fail to recognize the apology at all, but he tried to overwrite her basis for discussing it completely.  Her olive branch seemed more like a match to him with how quickly he brushed it aside.

Great.  Then it won't be a problem when I come by more often.  Now that cheerful heads up was as much of a courtesy as he'd get.  She wasn't about to ask his permission again and she sure as shit wasn't about to let him isolate either of them from her.  He'd shown her nothing but red flags every time they interacted and there was no way it was all bias.

She'd chosen this.

Bridget wouldn't fight with him in front of his daughter, though, so she didn't push it any further than that bright response. Instead she smiled at the girl's giggling and began to poke her nose in clearly incorrect hiding spots, 'looking' for her with staged bewilderment. Oh no, where'd she go? Clearly she was an expert, her auntie had no hope at all of finding her!

The woman's jab made Reyes glance at her quickly, and the look in his eye was almost dangerous.

He didn't appreciate the way this practical stranger was trying to dictate their own access to his daughter; it was something that would need correcting, but not right then and there. Not while Sorana was present — maybe if he could get Teya's attention for longer than a few minutes.

Reyes looked to where his daughter had dashed, spotting her tail. Bridget played it up like a woman would, and Reyes remained silent, as that felt safer for everyone. It was a good thing Sorana was distracted; she didn't need to see this side of her father. At least he was cognizant of that much.

Sorana! Where are you? Did you go back to bed already? He tried not to let the annoyance flavor his tone, because he wasn't trying to direct that at his daughter. Reyes didn't really know how to play this kind of game, exactly, but he was trying. He wanted to at least out-do Bridget.

The adults called out for her. Sorana giggled and wiggled further into the weeds, rustling them loudly in the process. There was no way they were gonna find her. Especially not when she failed to resist Reyes’ teasing question and called back a giggly, nooo!

Bridget ignored the look, though this interaction would likely set the tone for them going forward. She'd wondered if maybe, once she got over her feelings and past all of this, she could meet Reyes amicably at least. It didn't seem like that was going to be the case, however. He was quick to rile to about anything she said - and it turns out, she wasn't nearly as big a person as she'd hoped.

Bridget let her search carry her more in the direction of the shore, visibly poking through the reeds and looking around as though thoroughly stumped.

Despite a hard-headed tendency to want to inspire conflict, she sensed that Reyes should probably be the one to "find" her. Fighting with him was one thing - god, she wanted to. But fighting with him in front of Sorana? Another altogether.

Did the fish steal her away? Bridget asked, no one in particular, though she wondered if Sorana might get a giggle out of that one too.

His daughter's little voice was marvelous in its own way. Reyes couldn't help the love that overwhelmed him upon hearing her speak, and smiled as he prtended to hunt for her hiding place; that said, it wasn't quite enough to thwart his natural surliness given their present company.

Bridget made a comment that was directed to Sorana, and the game, and all at once Reyes wished Bridget wasn't there with them. That the father-daughter duo could play like a family without supervision; but he was being greedy, or at the very least letting some darkly covetous part of his heart reign supreme in that moment.

So-ra-na! He called out over the water, and then plunged his nose beneath the surface to say it again - this time with the water distorting his voice: SRR-BLRR-NRRP! When he raised his head again, water dripped off his chin. He shook his face to dry it and purposefully tried to get water across Sorana's back, within the reeds.
