After her conversation with Pharaoh, she gave a brief whuff to @Jakoul. Should the woman follow her was her business. Maegi didn't mind. She had decided—she was going to die. That was okay. And so Jakoul could observe from a distance if she so choosed.

Maegi would be out of her mind, snapping and barking, if any corporeal being came close.

Across the prairie, and there loomed the dark forest. Her dark forest. She looked across the black horizon, the shadowed canopy. It was a love-hate relationship she had with this place.

She entered. Blue-black shadows falling across her thin form.

She traveled first to her mother's altar, the worship center of her ancestors. Where Meldresi had prayed to Mephala and Sithis. Her birthright. Her destiny.

The slab where Relmyna had laid her soul bare. Where Maegi had sacrificed dead and dying beings to Jaes.

She stared at the altar, mouth agape.

Had it been worth it?

All she heard was Sheogorath's laughter.

Maybe it had not been worth it.

Maegi took slow, steady steps toward the altar. She climbed atop its bare stone surface, and laid herself upon it.

Perhaps lightning would strike? Perhaps she would be cast into flames?

Or something, someone, would set her guts to explode, to scatter and rot into the earth. She waited for so long. She'd prefer any of that.

But she was whole, and hours passed.

No God, no spirit came to claim her.

She lifted herself off the stone with a sob and carried on, further into the trees, into her beginning.
