All Welcome
He was growing stronger, and he knew the island better every day. Tonight, as the stars unfurled overhead, he chose to venture along the water's edge. It was loud everywhere! The crashing was dangerous and so he kept back when it got very loud, but otherwise Mojag tempted the water, as if it were alive and it were a plaything.

He knew better. The water had brought him here after all; he assumed it had brought them all here, to the edge of the world. It wasn't the best course of action to race towards the surf and then, tagging the wet sand with an obnoxious slap, try to out-run the rush of the waves. Mojag came away from it soggy but feeling very much alive.

It was different from his voyage here. He had control of these moments, and he felt powerful.

New life filled the island. She smelled them along the familiar trails, heard their songs on the air. Jasmine lived for these moments now. The island was theirs - hers, in a way. A place of safety, and of home.

She watched the new boy now from a cliff by the water’s edge. The crash of waves droned out most of her other senses, but the darkness could not eclipse her sight. He leapt for the waters, catching sea spray in his paws.

Hey sea biscuit, she hopped down to the wave soaked sand, clear levity in her voice, watch this! and she rushed past the boy to break into a wave that prepared to break against the shore, letting herself get caught up in its height before it pushed her back onto the sand, where the waters broke. Laughing, all the while.

Someone called out to him; he didn't know whose voice it was, as the waves were louder; but the shape was feminine, and a dusky sort of brown, which was not familiar. The woman plunged in to the water without fear and was lifted free within moments; but in those moments Mojag felt real spikes of adrenaline, thinking she was going to drown.

He rushed up the beach to where she'd entered the water, but by the time he reached her she was laughing and on the sand again. The water rushed forward and nearly caught him across the back. He ducked and slapped the sand, feeling the pulse of it wash over his shoulders and under his belly, briefly lifting him and pushing him up the beach, and when Mojag found his feet again he was exhilarated.

You're not scared! He wasn't asking; she showed no fear of the waves at all, which made her very brave. Her laughter was infectious enough to make his worry slip a bit further away.
