Greatwater Lake XXXIII

he coughed.

a rainstorm had risen and now the lake was choked with more water. the hunt-leader doggedly continued until he could not, and was forced to take shelter until the deluge was easier.

augur's yellow eyes were baleful.

bobcat had followed.

most assuredly, he had not been supposed to. but mother and father had both went and after some — but not much — deliberation, he'd snuck out from under whatever watchful eye had been tasked with keeping an eye on him.

but bobcat was growing like a weed: no longer the small bearn he'd once been though still very much young. still the dragonling playing dragon.

he finds father: at first tracking the scent 'til the rain began to wash it away with the scent of wet soil. it was the cough that yanks the bobcat in the direction, golden gaze finding father. a small chuff is given before he slips into the shelter.

they had traveled at a wolf's lope.

but it was not prey they tracked.

augur remained silent until the downpour passed.  he went out into the wet air at once and returned to the hunt. 

augur showed bobcat bits of old blood and where the killer's wide feet had dislodged small stones. he revealed the difference between the meandering deer-track and the way that this wolf ran.

but the rain came once more. this time however, the man did not seek shelter. he held the trail and went on.

New Snow came to the shelter. Saw her boy, and her man. Her heart was happy to see them both; she greeted her son with happy swipes of her tongue to his face. He had found them far from home, and she was pleased with what he had inherited from a long line of hunters.

She nosed her mate, who she worried after with long sniffs and low whines. But she knew this was an illness that would not strike him down. So many it had passed through, and all had been fine with it.

The she-wolf worried not for herself. It was only these two that she thought of.

When they reemerged, New Snow whuffed to her mate: food. She would hunt for her family while he instructed and looked after their boy. New Snow trusted him to the task.

they tracked.

father shows him what to look for, the proof that they were on the right path.

the banshee was very injured. this, bobcat can tell from the blood and the gait in which fading tracks fell.

a look was given to father, unspoken questions in his eyes.

would they even find her alive to claim the due justice they were owed?

augur looked down at the questioning bobcat.

he sniffed the blood and looked ahead.

it was not theirs to question. red woman had said to hunt and so they would, even if their efforts only overturned a bloodless pale body.

it would be closure for the murder.

questions swim without answers 'round bobcat's mind until he chases them away.

the message is clear: they are not his to ask.

avicus' orders are her orders. there is only faith and trust. in her. in redtail rise.

bobcat follows father's lead, pausing to draw in the scent of blood and let the trail unravel before him.

hunt and hunt and hunt again.

augur burned a severe path for he and the boy.

eventually however he called a halt and began to hunt, eating snow for the moment.

his eyes were level upon bobcat. he was proud of his son.

return cameo, if y'all want to wrap this bad boy up I can also throw one more post in!

New Snow returned with scrawny critters in her mouth for her son and for her man. Blood on her mouth revealed that she had eaten her own share. New Snow whuffed at the duo as she saw them, picking up her pace and dropping them to the earth when close enough. She greeted them both with many kisses and happy rumbles, and looked around to see how their own lesson had fared.

new snow joined them.

augur looked at her with pride. he looked to bobcat with the same. when he had seen that his mate had eaten, he gratefully consumed what his huntress had brought.

he would let his son lead the small family back to red woman.
