All Welcome

The evening was mild, and after a humid day, the air was filled with a dense haze of mist. Visibility was low, but scents were sharp despite the mauzy, wet-earth smell. Lilia had never smelled spring before, but tasted the first promise of it now- premature, of course, but still present in the mild temperatures and high humidity.

She hadn't expected her legs to beg her to wander so much, now that the pack had returned back to the Rise following their hunt. She wasn't too dissatisfied with the outcome, as she hadn't been very invested in the purpose to begin with. She'd been hungry for a fight, a real one, and she'd gotten a good taste of it. The travel had been taxing, and more than once she'd considered giving up, but had endured. Now, in the wake of it all, she found herself restless. She wanted to see more; wanted to know the land better.

So she began with scouting the areas in the immediate vicinity. She moved at a brisk pace, the waning amber light of golden hour casting long shadows across the plains. She would know this place, and its inhabitants.

This place was great for hunting rabbits, but that was pretty much all that Vagar used the area for. The rest of it held little interest to him. It was horribly drab and a bore to walk through. No interesting plants or bodies of water, usually no other wolves in the area... which really wasn't an awful thing. The loner stretched out his legs with a few slow steps before gracefully falling into a gallop.

Rabbit is what it was going to be today then... again. The man was coming to find that he needed something more than just rabbits, though. Taking his size and activity level into consideration, as soon as Vagar would catch any sort of small prey, he would be hungry less than a few hours later.

Thoughts of hunger didn't last long as something more interesting caught his eye. In the distance, what seemed to be a young wolf came into view. Their body seemed lithe and slightly gangly, as one looks coming out of their puppy phase. Vagar stopped in his tracks, unwilling to give off the wrong impression in case him advancing toward the dark figure could be taken as aggressive... but he also didn't want to be the one to run away. Curiosity held him there and dragged his head to tilt to the side. He would wait for the other to decide if they would interact or go on their separate ways.

The whole field shimmered with the gold mist. As she moved, her shadow roved with her, leaning out far beyond her reach as she headed across the plains. A suitable place for hunting rabbits and deer, she thought. Also, as a neighbouring territory, it was a bonus that there was a relatively clear plain of view. So when someone stepped beyond the forestline, they would be easily enough seen.

As was the man whose movement caught her eye. At his size, he wasn't easy to miss, either. He'd caught sight of her, either simultaneously or perhaps a moment before she'd looked up, and had already positioned himself in a way that was neutral. Still, she suspected there might be some comeuppance for their attack on the Strath. She would regard any stranger with a decent level of suspicion.

"Who're you?" She called out, her tone fairly abrupt.

The stranger quietly wandered away, leaving Lilia lightly perturbed. She continued through the lifting golden haze on her own, though the scents of others in the area wafted about on the air.
