All Welcome
maybe a Saatsine wolf? *pleading eyes*

The Sunspires called to her, and yet each time she made for their foothills it was as if an invisible force held her back. At first, Yuralria had chalked up her hesitance to the bad weather. After all, who would want to cross the mountains in a blizzard?

But as time passed, so too did her ignorance. For beyond the snow-capped peaks lay the flatlands and further still rose Moonglow. Home. Vairë. And things started to click into place.

Angry tears wet her eyes and she ran, as if she could already feel moondoe's disdainful gaze upon her. Returning home would mean regressing back to the same routine of caring for her ailing mother day in day out. Even under Kukutux' guidance, the stargirl was unsure if she had the strength to do it anymore.

A sharp gasp as her paws broke ice and plunged into the frigid waters of a stream. For a moment, the world seemed to hold its breath.

she did not return to qeya river.

she left it behind and with it came support for the chieftain's decision in moving. the rest would be safer, away from those who might wish to return to the river. yet time had marched so far that she felt certain none might come again.

however she kept this river within her grasp for selfish reasons.

it was here she found a girl. young enough to not look beyond her first full year. one who tested the frigid waters of the river.

you walk alone? she called out sharply.

k'edghildza had not wandered often. she didn't tend to stray far from sun eater's scent, finding comfort that her husband was always within an ear shot. but her growing friendship with ice diver had her, more often than not, breaching the levels of which she would scathe the borders.

she had followed the broad woman. her tracks were large through the snow. k'edghildza mirrored them, stepping atop once where she had been.

she found her! and someone else? k'edghildza's ears perked, her disposition much, much softer than the war chiefs. she approached ice diver with a low chuff, signaling her arrival there, beside her.

but then the ice broke.

alarmed, shouldn't we help her?

Icy water collided with her front half, seeping through her winter fur as Yuralria toppled head-first into the stream. The cold sucked the air from her lungs and for a brief, scary moment, she forgot entirely how to breathe. This was the end. Moondoe would not find her body out here in the taiga, far from the warmth of her ulaq

Fortunately for Yuralria, the stream here was not deep enough to submerge a wolf beyond one's ankles and, with a few clumsy scrabbles, she emerged bedraggled and chilled to the bone. Only to realise she had an audience.

"The hell," she muttered, cheeks flaming as she shook the water from her pelt. Who were these two? Yuralria had been too consumed in her own dramatics to catch much of their conversation. Rosewater eyes flicked from a sullen, mountain of a woman to one of more regal stature who's eyes betrayed her concern. "Who the f-f-fuck are you?" By now, shivers had begun to wrack her body but the stargirl drew herself up as tall as she could in an effort to conceal her misery from her mysterious onlookers.

keda is a good woman, the first thought that ice diver held in her mind.

or was it that ice diver had become some feral cruel creature? if the girl did not survive the frigid waters then that was nature’s demand of them. perhaps, maybe, that was only the wish of one who carried the name of a cold water swimmer.

she only grunted, gaze fixed to the child who stuttered out profanities. she thought she might like this one!

caribou hunters. you brave ice waters, you could be one too. a shining gaze of humor mingled with serious thought. did ice diver wish for a captive? she could not say outright, but the potential of youth was infinite and they had a chance to mold it — if no mother came calling.

the child’s bedraggled state stirred something deep within her, a pull that felt painfully maternal. yet, she bit her tongue, her jaws tightening as she watched ice diver engage with the girl, humor and pragmatism laced in her tone.

there was a flicker of hesitation in k’edghildza’s stance, her paws shifting slightly against the frozen ground. every instinct urged her to step forward, to offer warmth, guidance, something to ease the child’s misery. but she stayed rooted, her mind warring with the lessons of the taiga—strength was often forged in frost, not in comfort.

her gaze softened, if only slightly, as the girl’s trembling words reached her ears. she admired the defiance, even in the face of cold and strangers. a caribou hunter, she murmured under her breath, the faintest hint of a smile tugging at her lips. one of us.

The wolves gave little information bar their occupation - caribou hunters. Yuralria thought back to Rala, was she one too? Her mind swam as they offered her a place among them, an escape. Had this been any number of moons ago, she would have vehemently refused, but now instead she gazed at the first woman with a mixture of intrigue and regret.

They praised her courage, smiled at her victory against the frigid currents, and although her escapade had been little more than an accident, the girl felt warmth bloom in her chest. Her? Yuralria, moondoe's daughter, a caribou hunter? It was oddly poetic.

"I know how to hunt them," Tiny icicles had begun to form where rivulets dripped from her stomach, her reply swift and seeking. "And I know how to skin them. Prepare pelts, dry meat - you name it." Was this what they wanted? The urge for warmth was overwhelming and served only to hasten her decision.

im really sorry i've been so slow on this one. if a fade is preferred that works with me <3

hunt them. make pelts. dry meat.

this one would be good for as long as they could stay. even if only to pass along the knowledge to others who might be saatsine longer.

come, her voice was a warmer invite now. we will warm you and feed you. then you show how you do these things, hm?

see? she could be a good war chief.

when ice diver spoke in appraisal, it had star eater jump from behind her shield to greet the woman almost playfully. she sniffed around her coat, briefly brushing against her own to mark her with the scent of saatsine.
i will take you to my den, she offered, countenance light and airy. she could feel this way when ice diver loomed like a blade ready to fall. warm you with caribou hides.
she felt giddy!
i hope you stay.
last from me!

will archive here! thank you both <3

Thankfully, Yuralria did not have to wait long. The mountain woman softened, promising the shelter the girl desperately sought in that moment. "Thank you f-f-for this," a bright smile was offered in between teeth-chattering as the other, darker woman approached.

She drank in her scent, caribou fresh on her fur, grateful for the warmth her mark brought even if it was only for a brief second. Yura wished it had been longer.

"I'll do my best as long as I'm here. Promise." Her heart ached at the sight of a woman so pleased in her presence, knowing in her heart that her journey lay elsewhere. But for now, she could pretend.
