"ha. ha ha ha hahahahaha."
denali couldn't resist laughing out loud as he looked up at the mountain, once a mainstay in his life and now a delicious surprise.
he had been looking for her, but he wasn't entirely sure if he'd gone the right way or not. the twisted woods had looked vaguely familiar, but then again, all forests look similar in some way or another. and the scents were different. but as soon as he laid eyes on the crag, he knew. he was here. he'd finally arrived.
eyes watering, leaking tears that scored moist paths down his sunken cheeks, denali took off at a haphazard gallop, racing across the plains. he stumbled several times, but eventually made it to the base of sleeping dragon, pulling to an eager halt. his nostrils flared wildly, looking for the border.
he musn't upset heda. no, not now. he had come too far for that.
but after a short frantic time of search, in which he wound his way around the entire mountain, he discovered that not only were there no borders where they had been before--there were no borders at all. denali flopped over, beginning to panic, his skin twitching like a horse worried by summer flies. he began to scrabble at the ground, making a low, keening sound under his breath. he looked up--then down--then up again, and around, eyes big blue moons.
where were they?! last he knew, heda had full dominion over this place. the borders had been strong, the pack large. but now it seemed deserted, and no wolves in sight. not even a sentry had come to meet him.
all this way and for what?! she was gone. denali was gripped in terror, lying on the ground, head lifted to the sky. his breathing began to labor, and he let out a strangled howl, not knowing what else to do in this agonized moment.

Once, she traveled to Drageda safely with a guard and without getting lost along the way. This time, she loses her companion in a storm and scuffle with a pack for getting to close. She entirely bypasses Sangeda when she realizes she’s lost her way. The storm strong enough to alter some of her surroundings to make it difficult to get back and she doesn’t even attempt to search for the wolf traveling with her. Her main focus is to get back to Drageda and right the wrongs going on for too long and before the season begins to make a turn for colder weather.
She remembers the directions to Sleeping Dragon though she never had a need for them. Training begins young for the wolves of their kind and even harder with the fos goufa and with Drageda in its infancy there would be no time to learn. Besides, Seregrýn kind of fucked that up for her when she was ready. But she finds something familiar from directions long lost, no longer needed when they relocated to the coast.
Ajatar skirts away from the scent of a pack when the Teekons open up for her after the woods. She didn’t do a lot of exploring during her first visit and she doesn’t have the time for it now. If she can find Sleeping Dragon, she’s sure she can find someone or something to lead her toward the cliffs.
A low, eerie, and agonizing sound cuts the air and vibrates her chest something violent, clawing to escape. Her fur bristles around her shoulders as she approaches the opening to the geyser field. She’s heard the stories of what happened here several seasons ago and she has some morbid curiosity lingering, wondering if this is the beast of the mountain to force them out. Ears cup forward as she approaches, searching for the origin of the sound but finding him hidden in the landscape, scent thick on the wind.

he might be hidden, but she wasn't, pale as she was against the summer backdrop. she approached and he scrambled to his paws, sides heaving as the air burst from him in panicked breaths. he lumbered toward her, forgetting his manners entirely as he opened his mouth and blurted:
"heda! i need to find heda. where is she?!"
his lunacy thus established--though of course he didn't see it that way--denali shifted his paws, uncomfortable all of a sudden. it had been moons--seasons, almost?--since he had talked to another wolf, choosing the privacy of his own company instead. it showed, clearly. but he forced what he hoped was an ingratiating smile upon his muzzle, jerking his head toward sleeping dragon, and speaking again, in a much calmer tone than before.
"there were wolves there, once. where are they?" he asked, gaze boring into hers. no time for formalities nor pleasantries; he was on a mission, and this girl was going to lead him to heda. "where did heda take them? where did they go?"

He is up on his feet a lot sooner than she anticipates and she tilts her head back a fraction, halting her steps entirely. The normal, blank stare he would get from her on another other day is twisted in surprise and she struggles to lose the expression. Ears flick back against her head and she stiffens, watching him take staggering steps in her direction. She does not back up too much, waiting to see what is to come of this mad wolf.
Heda! he shouts at her and for a flash of a second, she thinks he is calling her. I need to find Heda. Where is she?
His breathing is erratic and he can’t stay still. Already the situation is out of her hands and the chaos proves this is the mountain Thuringwethil once claimed. She glances away and at the beast of land before landing back on him, shouting the answers she’s already come to. His dull gaze hardens into hers though he makes no more moves closer but she finds she has many questions. Has Heda angered some wolf to seek revenge? A captive? The history of Sleeping Dragon isn’t as strong in her memory as it should and she evens out her face and stares blankly at him, withholding the answer he so desires, "what did you do?"

he was astonished by her question, taking a few steps back, his eyes flashing with a peculiar mixture of fear and anger. "what did i do?!" he exclaimed, shaking his head back and forth. "what did i do? i did nothing, nothing!" denali's gaze then melted into cool spring water, fresh and blue. "you know her, don't you? you know heda? where is she?"
teeth chattering, he looked toward sleeping dragon again, his face growing blank with the wistfulness of remembering another time, a better time. "we met twice before," he said softly, a small smile coming to his maw. "she commanded this mountain. she was--she is--all-powerful. a goddess on earth."
he looked back at the snowy woman, countenance contorted by angst. "i need to find her," he pleaded, like a child. "please, please help me." he was one please away from prostrating himself on the ground before her, begging for answers to his thousand and one questions.

After listening to his frantic ranting, Ajatar isn’t so sure they’re talking about the same wolf, but how many wolves come by and call themselves Heda? His disillusion leaves a lot to question but she only licks her lips and watches with little interest. She doesn’t yet know what use he is to her yet but there’s something so she continues to withholding the information he seems to think she has.
“Don’t you think if they’d want you to know, you’d know?” she asks, gaze hardening into his. A low growl elicits from low in her throat and she moves past him, discarding her interest in his cause. Instead, if he truly seeks the answers to his questions, he’ll play along. “What can you tell me of Sleeping Dragon?”

"what the fuck does that even mean?" he sputters, more astonished than angry. she was asking questions that made no sense, trying to get him to chase his own tail. as if he were born yesterday. he blinked several times, stupefied, before trying to tackle her second question, mouth gaping like a fish as he tried to find the right words.
"i--i met heda two years ago, during the locust famine. she and her pack claimed this mountain," he explained, jerking his chin at the crag. "i left shortly after, but the memory of her has never left me. i chose to follow another leader over heda; my sins will never be forgiven. i want to make amends. please. . .i need to see heda."
he lifted his shoulders in a desperate shrug, looking back at her. "i mean, the mountain. . .i dunno really anything about it. i never got close enough; her warriors were always on guard," denali said. what did she want from him? if she knew where heda was, she needed to get him an audience. he'd throw himself into the sea before being shut out and away from heda.

I am here to save the day (with permission from Denali) and since Ajatar's mine I'll continue to PP her with Helix. <3 @Lava
It is about time for Helix to make the move and visit Drageda. It is unfortunate in a time like this. Many have made the trip to and fro, some have gone wayward, but a loyal wolf of Seageda for years kept her rooted in Trigeda after their home had dissolved. It is only when her brother and his mate were instructed to start their own way, halfway between the aligning packs, which she broke away in support of her family.
In times of turmoil, when they need their Heda, and she is not there, it is a problem. When their own wolves are killed, left for the others to pick up the pieces, they need their Heda. Sangeda had gone to war alongside Trigeda after losing most of those in Maungeda and there is too much damage left behind. Ajatar had set out to find her and bring her back after a messenger, nor Drageda, returned to their aid but Helix quickly stepped up to go alongside her to see the much afamed lifestyle further south.
Briefly the woman is separated from the fos goufa but she finds her easily, toying with some native to the territory. His frantic movements and shouting start to become cause for concern and the dark woman approaches to hear the man speak about the mountain and warriors that once protected the claim. Her eyes flicker toward Ajatar as she wanders aimlessly and Helix barks out to her while keeping her eyes carefully on the brute.
The pale wolf looks back, obviously unsatisfied with whatever the brute has told her.
Em get in Heda, the heir states, causing a brow to raise as she warily scans over their newest companion.

Lava trailed anxiously after his mother, head low and tongue lolling as he tried to distract himself by focusing on Helix's tall stride. This would work every now and again, for a few minutes at best, but the blurry swish of long, spidery legs couldn't keep him long from missing home or wondering what unforeseeable troubles lie ahead of them. He worried over many things, all the time, but these were worries new to him. He'd never faced the world before without being able to retreat into the safe folds of Tri- or Sangeda, so Lava felt completely at his mother's mercy as she led him in search of Drageda -- in search of Heda.
He hung back when she strode confidently forth to address Ajatar and the mad-looking wolfdog, and he kept at a distance, though his ears were perked forward intently as he still desperately wanted to know everything that was happening.

the girl didn't even acknowledge him. he got no response; instead, their conversation was interrupted by a pair of wolves arriving on the scene. his stomach did flips as his eyes land on a dark woman--oh shit oh shit oh shit is it her, this is her, oh shit!--but a crushing disappointment flattened him as her orbs flickered toward him and they were bright, not the darkness of heda's.
he remembered her eyes well. dark like night, like slate. this woman was a good visual match for heda, but not exact. not her. this was not her. he let out a ragged sigh that came out sounding like a strangled laugh, shuddering.
"what the fuck is going on?" denali asked as they exchanged words in a language he didn't know, glancing wildly between the strange trio. his paws shuffled, his body dancing in a stationary fashion, the height of awkward nerves. "i just need to find heda. please. . .she knows me. if you bring me to her, she'll know me. i just need to find her. please."

Helix is quiet for a moment. Eyes scan over to her son, watching him briefly. Ajatar opens her mouth to say something and an ear swivels back. The crazy wolf decides to speak before she has the chance to figure out a new plan. The brute that is Denali gets a snap to his face as Helix lurches forward, drawing blood to get him to shut his trap. Not a growl breaks ground, holding him still long enough for him to receive the message.
“You will see Heda on our say so,” she says, dropping his muzzle and straightening herself out. She licks the blood away from her lips, a hard stare into the brute.
“We should take him back,” Ajatar says in the common tongue, looking down upon the wolfdog. “He’s not a threat.”
The warrior scoffs, shaking her head. “We should kill him now and drag him back. Something is obviously wrong.”
“If Heda does not know him, we kill him then. He could be useful on the trip.”
Helix doesn’t say anything this time, looking toward the pale woman as she speaks. She clears her throat and nods, hesitantly agreeing. With everything settled, she urges her son closer to help guard and keep their advantage against the stranger.
