Maegi was off doing whatever she did involving the prayers and creepy rituals, which was fine. Blue didn't really mind that she did it, although he'd rather not watch her drag dead, rotting bird carcasses up to the Altar. Gave him the creeps, you know? Can't imagine why. So instead of joining her on her latest excursion into the world of fanaticism, Blue decided to go his own way again, explore the forest a little.
There was a particular berry bush that looked appealing, the tiny fruits smelling stronger than ever. If he were a wolf, Blue would have licked his chops. As it was, he descended upon the bush with a flutter of wings, beginning to gorge. He choked down as many berries as his body would allow, then headed for the safety of the trees, satiated and smugly pleased with himself.
It was only a few minutes before he realized something was. . .off. His vision began to blur, things got slower around him, and it became harder and harder to stay on his feet. Giggling a chirpy tune, Blue wobbled across the branch, slowly, wondering if this was it--if he'd finally become a drug addict, just like that girl.
Seized by impulse, he took off in flight and regretted it almost immediately; the grackle swerved and dived with reckless abandon, his little stomach in knots as he plummeted toward the ground. He pulled himself up just before he smacked into the earth and came to a stuttering stop, hobbling drunkenly through the leaves that carpeted the forest floor.
Well, shit. This actually was kind of fun.
