When Hecate began to speak, she winced at the pain at her throat. "I still wish to join thy brotherhood. I bring this elk to prove myself," she said, her voice rough, and clearly different than the last encounter. Usually, Hecate spoke the modern tongue, but now, unfocused, she resorted to some of the olden language. 

 She noticed that the alpha was not looking at her, but behind her. She didn't dare turn, though. There must've been something more important for him, thus him not wanting to waste time. This world truly hates me doesn't it, she thought. She braced herself for the alpha to attack, her muscles tense, awaiting for his reaction.
