Thuringwethil had arrived to the wilds in the winter but she does not remember it being this harsh. She and Gyda had done well on the mountain and the gaining of followers they were to share together and here she stands, nearly a year later, and she can barely recognize the wolves she’s meant to protect and keep safe. It is still a mixture of her own and outsiders and she the only trace of Gyda left these days is Eske. Their legacy will grow in their daughter just as they will build their own in their own claim. In a few months, she’s certain she’ll hear from a messenger that they are well and settled but in the meantime she’s left to wonder and worry.

Caught in thought, Wildfire perks her head up when she hears the sound of another enter the cave. Without proper marking due to the weather, she feels often on edge about who enters their home. The worry someone not one of their own will find the secluded entrance, Thuringwethil has to ease her mind down as her mate approaches and snakes her nose beneath her chin. Her eyes close and she leans into the embrace but ever since the woman’s heat, things haven’t felt quite right. No matter how much she tries to ball up the worry and toss it away, her lack of emotional exploration really keeps her from knowing how to handle how she feels and is often reminded of such weakness.

Heda glances around the cavern to see it is mostly empty and those remaining. It takes a moment but she nods anyway. Uneasily, she opens her mouth to speak but her eyes travel off to see another and she turns further with a beckoning wave of her nose to lead Wildfire through the tunnel that opens up to the smaller cavern. Low tide has settled in but chunks of ice still wave in from the sea. Instead of speaking, Thuringwethil turns and gives the floor to the bandrona instead to let her lead the conversation better than she can.

all that wanting, all that aching, all that capacity for love:
it never belonged to you in the first place
