A partial, wicked smirk tugs at the lifted corner of the boy’s lips as bloodied teeth tighten their grip upon the hare that she uses to present challenge to him. His attempt to dislodge it from her grasp is futile for she has the distinct advantage of strength yet unparalleled upon her side. Her reluctance to let him win only encourages Roarke who lets out a low growl as they stand almost nose to nose. He does not want her to give it up to him, either. In reality, he would never win it against her fairly but the winter’s bane does not know this. She gives her end of the hare a tug. It is not enough to cause him to lose balance but it does pull him forward. Quickly, he scrambles to regain his footing and dig his paws into the earth, muscles locking as he attempts to hold his own. He pulls back with as much strength as he can muster, conscious to remind himself not to loosen his grip upon the hare and gives his head another shake in an attempt to catch her in a moment where her grip might be loose enough to dislodge it.
