Well hey, that meant he was off the hook, right? That shitty part of his brain that was always ready gave an internal, mocking cheer, but he stifled it.  There were times to be an ass and there were times to bite the bullet and attempt some amount of decency.  This conversation was going somewhere and he wasn't about to screw it up by mouthing off.

Not yet at least.

"Because I was a shit brother.  I was mad and I didn't know who at, so I took it out on the only one I could."  Then he snorted.  "Though you let me get away with it pretty easily, so I guess it is part your fault."
