the last week had been arguably the most harrowing of indra's life -- and while she was not out of the woods yet, she felt sufficiently less ill. she felt enough energy to return to her that she hobbled stiffly out of the den and peered at the open world.

what indra once might have regarded as a beautiful, temperate winter afternoon was met with a filmy, dull gaze. for all the sunlight that poured into the valley, none reflected in her eyes. without a sound she limped from the den and towards the stream she had last seen blondine appear.
