in her time alone, she had adopted once more her wariness of wolves. the wild seemed so much wider and so much crueler out of Murdock's guiding shadow, and she no longer trusted her own thoughts; only basic instinct seemed most beneficial, seemed to increase her likelihood of survival. and so when the white one appeared, gaze gleaming like blood, she drew in on herself, tail raising stiffly and gaze following him. to flee back to the safety of the wood would to act as prey did.

the fish landed with a slap in the rocky surf near her, and the sound had her ears flick a moment before settling back on him. for a moment, she was caught in the midst of an internal argument, until hunger had her slip toward the generous meal despite the heavy feeling settled in her chest. solitude had not eroded her innate goodness entirely, and a soft thank you slipped from her jaws as she settled again near the meal, wanting most desperately to tear into it and yet drawing herself up to observe the stranger more readily.
